reunion on the steps of the old Court House
Confederate Veteran Civil War Reunion was developed by
James D. Nance being organized in 1893 by the Conferate Veterans of
Newberry. Officers were: Captain J. W. Gary - commander; Dr. R. C.
Carlisle - Lieutenant commander; and J. F. J. Caldwell - 2nd
Lieutenant commander. In 1907 The Daughters of the Confederacy
prepared an eleborate dinner and program with between 200-300
veterans attending. The dinner was served at the Old Newberry Court
House. This picture shows
those veterans standing along the balcony, on the steps and in front
of the Court House.
It's a great site to see.

Pensioners - Confederate
veterans and their widows were able to apply for a pension in 1887.
