John Elmer Whitman, 66, of Silverstreet, died Monday,
February 27, 2006 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Mr. Whitman was born on
May 11, 1939 in Prosperity, SC, a son of the late John Luther and Clarice
Dominick Whitman. He was a retired employee of Old School Manufacturing Company
and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. Mr. Whitman is survived by his
wife, Judith Suber Whitman of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law,
Cheryl and Danny Metts of Little Mountain and Rhonda and Larry Fulmer and Tanya
Alveshire, all of Newberry; a son Johnny Whitman, of Silverstreet; two sisters,
JoAnn Fulmer and Edith McCartha both of Prosperity; a brother, David Whitman of
Newberry; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased
by two sisters, Loraine McCartha and Johnette Hipp. Funeral services were
conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church. Interment was in Newberry
Memorial Gardens. The family was at the residence, 986 Saluda River Road
and will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at Whitaker Funeral
Home. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 1505 Wilson Road,

Height, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at National Health Care of Clinton.
Survivors: wife, Sara Hawkins Wessinger; a daughter, Peggy W. Neeland of
Newberry; a son, T.E. Wessinger Jr. of Asheboro, N.C.; sisters, Pearl Robertson
and Irene Coward; brothers, Leroy and Carol Wessinger; eight grandchildren; 18
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Visitation: 6:30 to 8 p.m.
today at Whitaker Funeral Home. Service: 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Betty Thomas Williams, 75, formally of 961 Lindsay
Circle, Newberry, widow of J. Edward Williams, died Wednesday, November 22, 2006
at the J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home.
She was born on March 4, 1931 in Whitehall,
GA, a daughter of the late Judge Hubert and Jessie Ward Thomas. She was a
retired textile employee and was a member of College Street Baptist
Church. Mrs. Williams is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Polly
and Clyde Turner of Newberry and Angie Williams and her fiancé Doug Kirk of
Cleveland, OH; a sister and brother-in law, Gloria and Earl Dominick of
Newberry; one brother, who was reared in the home and a sister-in-law, Danny and
Lynn Thomas of St. Lucie, FL; eleven grandchildren, Eddy Turner, Ben Turner,
Charity Turner, Tommy Turner, Tal Rowe, Elysia Edwards, Naomi Kirk, Nichole
Kirk, Babs Crumley, Bert Thomas, and Bett Thomas; and twelve great-
grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson, Davie Edwards. Graveside
funeral services were conducted at 3:00 PM Friday by Rev. Paul Rowe in Newberry
Memorial Gardens. Visitation was from 7:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at the

Sauls Wilson, 69, of 205 Hawkins St., Newberry died Friday, November 5, 2010 at
her residence. Born November 8, 1940 in Goldsboro, NC, she was the
daughter of the late Edward E. and Lucile Sauls. Ms. Wilson worked for many
years as a teller with S.C. National Bank. She is survived by sons and
daughters-in-law, John Eddie and Sherrie Wilson, W. Steve and Sheryl Wilson and
Ashley W. and April Wilson all of Newberry; brothers, Richard (Mary Nell) Sauls
of Wisconsin and William (Donnie Ann) Sauls of Goldsboro, N.C.; grandchildren,
Emily Brooke Wilson, Ashton Elizabeth Wilson, Stephanie Amanda Wilson, Cooper
Nicole Wilson, Lauryn Ashley Wilson, John Wyatt Wilson and James Gavin
Wilson. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday at
Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Hugh Bickley. Memorials are

– Mrs. Alda Miller Willingham, 82, wife of Ambrous O. Willingham, died Wednesday
at a Newberry hospital. Born in Newberry County, she was a daughter of the late
John William and Mary Chapman Miller. Surviving are her husband; four sons, A.
Olin Jr., Robert E., John A. and Ted M. Willingham of Newberry; five daughters,
Mrs. Belton C. Smith and Mrs. Harvey Thomas of Newberry and Mrs Clarence Cook of
Boulder, Colo.; a sister, Mrs. I.S. Davis of Newberry; a brother, B. Walter
miller of White Rock; 27 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Services will
be 5 p.m. today at Faith Lutheran Church with burial in Rosemont Cemetery. The
family suggest that those who wish make make memorials to Faith Lutheran Church.

Wicker our loving wife, mother and Nanny, age 63, of Newberry passed into life
eternal on Thursday, June 3, 2010, surrounded by family and friends. Mrs.
Wicker was born on August 14, 1946, the daughter of the late Leonard Spratt
Black and Kitty Mae McCorkle Black. She is survived by her loving husband, Henry
of the home; a daughter Gina (Craig) Templeton of Newberry; a son, Eddie
(Krissi) Wicker of Prosperity; brothers, Sonny (Sybil) Black of Lancaster,
Robert (Kay) Black of Ridgeway and Ernie (Gail) Black of Winnsboro; a sister,
Mary Frances “MeMe” Kelly of Winnsboro; a sister-in-law, Shirley Black of
Florida; seven grandchildren, Kristi and Jessica Culbreth, Megan, Brittany, and
Hayden Grace Templeton, and Bradley and Kaylee Wicker; along with several nieces
and nephews. Mrs. Wicker was predeceased by a brother, Mack Black;
brother-in-law, Bobby Kelly and a sister-in-law, Nita Black. She was a
member of St. Philip’s Lutheran Church. She retired from the South Carolina
Department of Motor Vehicles after 31 faithful years of service. After
retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Wicker spent many years in Maggie Valley, where they
met many loving and devoted friends. Funeral services will be conducted at
3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 6, 2010, at St. Philip’s Lutheran Church by the Rev.
Terry Amick. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be
Saturday, June 5, 2010, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00
p.m. A special thanks goes out to all the doctors, nurses, and staff of
Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina for their love, care, and
support. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to St.

Kinard Derrick Bedenbaugh Wofford, 72, of Prosperity, died Wednesday evening
September 9, 2009 at Ascension Hospice House in Irmo. She was born in Prosperity
on June 18, 1937, a daughter of the late John E. and Tommie Lee Long Kinard.
Mrs. Wofford was a life-long, active member of Bachman Chapel Lutheran Church. A
loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, who
always put her family first. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Wofford;
sons, James Paul (Karen) Derrick and John Marion (Barbara) Derrick, a daughter,
Shelia LeJean Derrick Ross all of Prosperity; a step-son, Donnie (Angie)
Wofford, step-daughters, Stacy (Tate) Hancock, Janet (Cecil) Morris; sisters,
Kathleen Crumpton and Pauline Harmon of Prosperity, Sudie Mae Livingston of
Pomaria; brothers, William Kinard and Harold Kinard of Prosperity; fifteen
grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Mrs. Wofford was predeceased by
husbands, Bennie S. "Bill" Derrick and Bobby F. Bedenbaugh, a son, Benji Earl
Derrick, a grandson, John Clayton "Clay" Derrick, a great-grandson, John Dalton
Derrick and a brother, John Glenn Kinard. Funeral services will be held at 2:00
p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Bachman Chapel Lutheran Church by the Rev.
Floyd Sides and the Rev. James Shealy. Burial will follow in the church
cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at McSwain-Evans
