Newberry, Oct 23 - funeral services for Mrs. Lucy
Bowers Young, 67, were held from McSwain's Funeral home Thursday morning at 11
o'clock with the Rev. E. Bryan Keisler, of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer,
assisting the Rev. A. W. Pippard of Hendersonville, N.C. and the Rev. J. J. Long
of White Rock. Interment was in Rosemont cemetery. Mrs. Young, resident nurse of
the Lowman home at White Rock for several years, died there Wednesday night
after an illness of six months. Mrs. Young was graduated from St. Joseph's
hospital, Savannah about 32 years ago, and has been actively engaged in
practicing her profession ever since. Prior to becoming resident nurse at Lowman
home, she was night supervisor in Dr. Jervey's hospital in Greenville for a
number of years. She is survived by three cousins, Mrs. Raymond Fellers, Miss
Clara Bowers and O. B. Bowers all of Newberry and many other relatives and
friends in Newberry where she spent her younger days. Her husband, Dr. William
A. Young, died a nubmer of years ago. (contributed by Cathy

James
Zobel
James O. "Butch" Zobel, 85, of 2235 Derrill Ave., Newberry,
died Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Providence Hospital in Columbia.
Mr.
Zobel was born on May 24, 1923 in Newberry, a son of the late Charles J. and
Nancy G. Zobel. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Air
Corps for three years. Mr. Zobel attended Newberry College and was a member of
the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and the Men's Bible Class. He worked as the
Newberry County Magistrate and Chief Magistrate for 26 years. Mr. Zobel is
survived by his wife, Margaret "Bobbie" Hollingsworth Zobel and three sons:
Jimmy Zobel and wife, Vickie, of Prosperity, David Zobel of Sunburst, Montana,
and Kent Zobel of Newberry. He was predeceased by two brothers and a
sister. Graveside funeral services were conducted at 4:00 PM on Wednesday
in Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Caldwell Day Visitation was from
2:00 to 3:30 P.M. Wednesday prior to the service at Whitaker Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Barry Koon, Johnny Mack Scurray, Bobby Gilliam, Brent
Yarborough, William Young, Bobby Cole Yarborough, and Brian, Yarborough.
Honorary pallbeares were the members of the Men's Bible Class of the Lutheran

NEWBERRY, Nov. 23 – Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Louise
Young, 61, widow of Charles Young, who died today after an extended illness at
the home of her daughter, Mrs. George A. Addy, of Mayer Avenue, will be held
Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the McSwain Funeral Home, conducted by the
Rev. T. Carlyle Cannon. Interment will follow in the Baxter Memorial
Cemetery. Surviving are five daughters and three sons, Mrs. George A.
Addy, Newberry; Mrs. V. R. Boozer, Atlanta, Ga.; Mrs. C. W. Windsor, Clinton;
Mrs. W. P. Lindler and Mrs. Harry Foster, Whitmire; S. N. Young, Quantico, Va.;
C. V. Young, Honea Path; C. C. Young, Fort Bragg, N.C.; five sisters, Mrs. Will
Williams, Union; Mrs. G. V. Hanna, Mooresville, N.C.; Mrs. E. V. Tinsley,
Greenville; Mrs. John Giles and Miss Rowena Westmoreland, Greer; three brothers,
John Westmoreland; Griffin, Ga.; Reid Westmoreland, Spartanburg; and Thomas

Thomas E. Yon
Thomas Earl Yon, 65, died
Monday, December 13, 2010. Born April 6, 1945, in Newberry, he was a son of Ruth
Willingham Yon and the late Edward Pearson Yon. Mr. Yon worked for Newberry
Auto-NAPA for 10 years and retired from Sunrise Auto-Care Quest after 25 years.
He was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, a charter member of the
Newberry Moose Lodge where he was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, and
the Legion of the Moose. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #87 AFM, the York
Rites Bodies and was a Shriner. Surviving in addition to his mother, Ruth Yon of
Newberry, are his wife, Judy Hinson Yon; daughters, Angela Hope (Rob) Erhardt of
Little Mountain, Amy Lynn (Barry) Shealy and Amanda Ruth (Tommy) Yon-Price, both
of Newberry; grandchildren, Joshua Erhardt, Jessica Erhardt, Dakota Erhardt,
Jenna Shealy, Jacob Shealy, Josie Price, and Devin Price. Mr. Yon was
predeceased by his brother, Robert Edward Yon. Funeral services will be held at
2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 16, 2010, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Burial
with Masonic rites will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be
Wednesday from 6:00 â€' 8:00 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may
be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital, 950 West Faris Road,
