Died...April 12th, Mr. James Madison Smith, at his residence on Sampit, in the 38th year of his age. He was a native of all Saints Parish. (The Charleston Mercury, May 3, 1858)

Died...April 11th, at the residence of her father, Mr. Lusk Davis, Mrs. Sarah Jane Wilie, in the 25th year of her age. (The Charleston Mercury, May 3, 1858)

Died...March 22d, at his residence, eleven miles south of Paulding, Jasper county, Mississippi, F. G. Harralson, aged 32 years. Deceased was a native of South Carolina, and has been a resident of Jasper county about three years. (The Charleston Mercury, May 3, 1858)

Mrs. Lula Bates
Special of The State, 1922-11-07
St. Matthews,Nov. 6 - Mrs. Lula Bates, wife of A.I. Bates, died at her residence six miles north of here on the state road yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock.  Mrs. Bates had been in her accustomed good health until Friday when she suffered a stroke of paralysis.  Having lived all her life in this community, she was widely connected and well beloved.  She was a devoted member of Wesley Chapel Methodist church.  Mrs. Bates was a daughter of Mrs. John Shuler, who survives her.  She is also survived by her hsuband and the following children:  Mrs. Ulyses Herlong, Mrs. Dan Wise, Bonnie Bates and John D. Bates, and the following sisters:  Miss Marie Shuler, Mrs. W.p. Prickott, Mrs. Hattie Laird and Mrs. P. P. Spigener.  The funeral services were held from the First Baptist church here with the Rev. J.T. Pecler of the Methodist church and the Rev. T.M. --phin of the Baptist church in charge.  Interment was made at West End cemetery...transcribed by D. Whitesell
