David A.
McLure David A. McLure died at his
residence near New Prospect last week in his 54th year. He has
been in an unhealthy condition for several years. He was a
most excellent citizen and a kind neighbor and as a farmer,
thrifty and energetic. (The Carolina Spartan, May 31,
1882)
Edward
Lipscomb This gentleman departed this life at his
home on Thickety on Thursday last (October 7, 1875). Mr.
Lipscomb was quite advanced in years, being about eighty at
the time of his death. He filled his measure of life in a
quiet and unassuming way, but was a useful and influential
citizen. He adds one more to the list of our many old and
valued citizens who have gone to their long homes. He leaves
several children and many friends and relatives to mourn his
loss. Spartanburg had no truer citizen, nor one whose death
will be generally and sincerely regretted throughout the
County. (The Spartanburg Herald, October 13, 1874)

respected by all who knew him as a generous friend, a kind
neighbor and a good citizen. At the age of - he married
Ann Goodlett, who died in the year 1847. Of all his
children, he leaves an only daughter, but he was not a man
whose death needed the ties of relationship to make
mourners. His friends were numberous, and all who knew
him will drop a tear over his grave. He was a man of
honest and upright principles and died in the confident hope

We
regret to chronicle the death of Mrs. M. V. Morgan, which occurred at
her home at Fair Forest, in Spartanburg county, on the night
of the 24th ultimo. She was the widow of the late Rev. F. M.
Morgan, who predeceased her about eighteen months. She had
been a great sufferer for many months, which she bore with
Christian fortitude. She had been a consistent member of the
Methodist church for about thirty two years. She was the
eldest daughter of Capt. Andrew Dickson, of our town. She was
forty-five years, ten months and four days old. She leaves
seven children, three daughters and four sons, with many other
relatives and friends, to mourn her departure from them here,
but with the glad assurance that she waits for them in heaven.
She was buried on the 26th at Clinton, S. C., by the side of
her husband. The deceased has many friends in Oconee where
they lived many years. Her husband was once a member of the
South Carolina Conference. Death relieved him of his
sufferings at 1 o'clock on the morning of February 17th, 1892.
His age at the time of his death was 74 years. His funeral
sermon was preached by Dr. Smith and the burial service was
conducted by Rev. D. H. Comann, assisted by Rev. R. E. Lentz.
