pg. 159-160 John Scott Hughson, Sumter, S.C. was born in Camden, S.C. Oct. 1st, 1841. He was educated at the male acad. of Camden, and at the Furman univ., Greenville, S.C. His medical studies were pursued at the med. col. of the State of South Carolina, in Charleston, whence he graduated in March, 1867. He commenced practice in the country, but settled in Sumter in 1869. He is a member of the Sumter med. soc., secretary and treasurer, and of the South Carolina med. asso. He has contributed largely to medical journals, among his articles being.....He served in the Confederate army during the rebellion; first in the Hampton legion, and afterwards in the cavalry command of Gen. Wade Hampton. He married, March 1864, Eliza Randolph, daughter of Shirley Carter Torner, of Virginia. She died in Jan., 1876 |
