Mrs. W. B. Twitty, died Thursday morning,
January 29, 1891, after a long and severe illness. She was born in
Union county and her school mates and friends have only the kindest
recollection of her as Tudie Thomas. As a girl she was womanly in
her ways and in her school life she manifested taht faithfulness and
earnestness that characterized her womanhood...........

Union, Nov. 18- Funeral services for ELIZIE BUREN WOOD, 64, who died at his home in
Lockhart after a lingering illness, will be conducted at the
Lockhart Methodist church by the REV. J.F. FARR. Interment will be
in the Foster's Chapel Methodist church cemetery. Active
pallbearers; JOHN HERRIN, J.M. SCALES, ARTHUR FLEXICO, HENRY SEALEY,
JOHN STEPP and EVERETT PARKS. Surviving ; Wife, MRS. MARY WOOD; 2
sons, BOYCE and BOYD WOOD; and one daughter, MRS. FLOYD DUANK, all
of Lockhart. The Edgar funeral home is in charge.

September 11, in Panola county, Miss Maria Louisia (Bobo), daughter of Dr. Wm.
J. and Margaret L. Bobo, after a short but painful illness. Deceased
was a native of Union district, S.C., her father having removed from
Cross Keys, in that district, in the winter of 1857. She was a
grand-daughter, by the mother's side, of the late David Boyce, of
Newberry district, who was a son of John Boyce, a revolutionary
patriot.

Rev. George E. Turbeville -
Former
Tabernacle Baptist pastor
COLUMBIA - Funeral services
for the Rev. George E. Turbeville, 85, were held this morning,
Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at Kilbourne Park Baptist Church. Burial was
in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Rev. Turbeville died Tuesday,
Feb. 19, 2008. He was born in Columbia, a son of the late James
Maxey and Elizabeth Bundrick Turbeville. He served in the U.S. Army
during World War II and was involved in the liberating of Manila,
Philippine Islands, for which he was awarded a bronze
star.
Rev. Turbeville received his
education at the University of South Carolina, graduating with a
degree in psychology. His theological training was at Southeastern
Baptist Seminary. He also graduated from the Clinical Pastoral Care
School, S.C. Baptist Hospital.
Rev. Turbeville was ordained by
the Rosewood Baptist Church, Columbia. He pastored four churches for
34 years before retiring in 1987 including Tabernacle Baptist Church
in Union. During his retirement years he served as Interim pastor of
17 Baptist churches.
He wrote more than 500 devotional
articles for The Union Daily Times. His writings also appeared in
the Southern Baptist Church Musician Magazine and the Baptist
Courier.
Denominational services included:
moderator, Col-umbia Metro Baptist As-sociation; president,
Pas-tor's Conference; speaker, State Baptist Pastor's Con-ference;
General Board, S.C. Baptist Convention; executive committee of the
State Convention; State Budget Committee; Royal Ambas-sador Camp
Committee; State Convention nominating committee; and State
Convention, Personnel Committee.
Rev. Turbeville was truly
committed to the ministry. He had a firm conviction that it was
God's will for him to be a preacher. His pastoral concerns were
equally at the center of his life. Two of his churches before
retirement had more than 1,000 members each, yet he had a steadfast
commitment being pastor of those people. One of his outstanding
qualities was being an encourager of people.
Surviving are his faithful and
devoted wife, Flo Jackson Turbeville; a son, Bobby Turbeville of
Columbia; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was
predeceased by a son, George Jr; a daughter, Barbara Ann; a brother,
Walter Turbeville; and two sisters, Louise Outlaw and Dorothy
Headden.

Robert McBeth of Union District
Union, May
16 – Col. Robert McBeth died at his home, four miles from here,
yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock, aged 90 years. His death was not
unexpected as he had been very low for three weeks, and the
physicians who attended him gave up all hope of his recovery some
days ago.
His death
was caused by a fall down the back steps of his residence three
weeks ago, from which he received several severe bruises and an ugly
gash on the head. He was also injured internally. After the fall he
was unconscious for some time and he endured great pain and
suffering during three weeks.
Col.
McBeth was one of the first settlers who came to Union and some of
the buildings here now were built by him.
He served
the county for a number of years as sheriff, and has adjusted the
knot and executed several men. He was quite prominent in this county
and well known in the upper part of the State.
The
funeral services will be held in the Baptist church tomorrow morning
at 11 o'clock, after which the remains will be interred in the
village cemetery. The burial will be conducted with Masonic honors.

Died at his residence in Union District, on the 15th ult
(Sept. 15, 1823) of a lingering disease, Henry Farnandis, in the 54th year of his
age. He was a native of Charles County, State of Maryland.

WHITMIRE - Services for Ruth Baker Silvers, 72, will
be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Pine Ridge Baptist Church, with burial

Mrs. Silvers, widow of Cromer Nelson Silver, died
Tuesday. Born in Whitmire, she was a daughter of the late Lewis and
Lillie Whitlock Baker.

Silvers, both of Whitmire; daughters, Betty S. Horne of Lyman, Mary
S. Knox of Lexington; brother, Milton Baker of Whitmire; sister,

Stone
WHITMIRE - James H. Stone, 69, of 4-D Spring St., and
widower of Katie Ammons Stone, died Wednesday. May 24 at his
home. He was born in Whitmire and was a son of the late Homer
and Erin Chapman Stone. He was a retired employee of Cone
Mills. Surviving are one son, Carl Michael Stone of Whitmire;
one daughter, Karen Diana Stone of the home; two brothers, Gene
Stone of Whitmire and Melvin Stone of Union; five sisters, Bertha
Malpass of Greenwood, Pearl Kinard and Sherline Crumpton, both of
Whitmire, Helen Coffey of Newberry and Frankie Altman of Prosperity;
three granddaughters, Amanda Crumbley, Suzane Stone and Stanley
Stone; and a special friend, Betty Livingston of Pomaria.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 4 p.m. at Pine Ridge
Baptist Church with burial in Lee Cemetery. The family will

Watkins
WHITMIRE - Luther D. Watkins, 82, formerly of Whitmire
died Monday, September 15 in Lexington Extended Care. He is survived
by his daughter, Carolyn Moss and her husband, Daniel E., of West
Columbia; a stepdaughter, Leslie Lanier and her husband, Mike, of
Union; three brothers, William Ralph Watkins and his wife, Martha,
of Cummings, Ga., Ronald Davis and his wife, Sylvia, of Jackson,
Ga., Jessie Richard Watkins and his wife, Carolyn of Jonesboro, Ga.;
eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services
will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Gray Funeral Home Chapel
with burial in Lee Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday

WHITMIRE - Services for Amanda C. Alexander, 79, will

Mrs. Alexander, widow of Walter (Jack) Alexander, died
Sunday. Born in Graham Co., N.C., she was the daughter of the late
John and Martha Collier. She retired from J.P. Stevens and was a
member of Bethesda Baptist Church.
Surviving are son, Johnny Alexander of Whitmire;
daughters, Janie Lusk, Joyce Dallas, both of Whitmire; seven

WHITMIRE - Services for Donald Wayne Alexander, 43,
will be held at 4 p.m. today at Friendship Baptist Church with

Mr. Alexander died Tuesday. Born in Whitmire, he was a
son of the late Fred Joseph Alexander Jr. and Mary Frances Glenn
Alexander.
Surviving are his wife, Tonya Wix Alexander; daughter,
Brittany Alexander of Newberry; sons, Jeremy, Robert Alexander both
of Whitmire; stepson, Dustin Whitman of Rockingham, N.C.; sister,

Flossie S.
Alexander Quinn
Flossie Shields Alexander Quinn, age 80, formerly of
Whitmire, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, at Summit Place in
Simpsonville. She was born in Union, and was the daughter of the
late Flem and Beulah Walls Shields.
Mrs. Quinn was former magistrate of Goshen Hill, was a
watchtower attendant and was a homemaker. She was also a member and
Sunday school teacher at Bethesda and The Living Sanctuary in
Simpsonville. Surviving are three sisters, Vivian Bean of Fort Mill,
Mary Louise Nichols of York and Brenda Tarlton of Kings Mountain,
N.C.; a brother, Harold Shields, of Fort Mill; and several nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Feb. 21,
2004, at 3 p.m. at Bethesda Baptist Church, with burial at Lee
Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at

Genola Alexander Whitmire
native
WHITMIRE - Genola Seymore Alexander, 85 of 249 Lee
Cemetery Road, Whitmire, widow of Frank Alexander died Thursday,
June 14, 2007 at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Alexander was born
in Whitmire, Nov. 6, 1921, a daughter of the late Luther Seymore and
Anna Rochester Seymore. She was a faithful member of Bethesda
Baptist Church where she kept the nursery for over 20 years.
Surviving are: a daughter, Sandra Jenkins of Whitmire;
a son, David Alexander and wife Donna of Union; a sister, Minnie Lou
Shields; two brothers, Russell Seymore and wife Gerry all of
Whitmire and Martin Seymore and wife Hattie of Union; three
grandchildren, Darrell Jenkins, Michael Alexander and Jessica A.
Maynard; and four greatgrandchildren: Karly, Kerry and Kymberlee
Jenkins and Hunter Maynard.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June
16, 2007 at Bethesda Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Steve
Young. Burial will be in Lee Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be

Mr. Alexander died July 21, 2002. Born in Union County, he was a son

Doris Robertson Blizzard, died Tuesday morning, June 7th, 2005 in
Newberry County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. The
family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Thursday, June 9th, 2005 at The
Lewis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday,
June 10th, 2005 at Pine Ridge Baptist Church in Whitmire, conducted

WHITMIRE - George Vernon Jenkins, 64, husband of
Sandra Alexander Jenkins, of 249 Lee Cemetery Road, Whitmire, died
Friday, April 20, 2007.
Mr. Jenkins was born in Rutherford, N.C., Jan. 24,
1943, a son of the late George Lawson Jenkins and Lillie Mae Haynes
Jenkins. He was employed with Union County Maintenance Department
and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Darrell
Jenkins of Whitmire; a sister, Betty Cheatham of Spartanburg; two
brothers, William Jenkins of Union, and Jack Jenkins of Whitmire;
and three grandchildren, Karly Jenkins, Kerry Jenkins and Kymberlee
Jenkins.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April
23, 2007, at Bethesda Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Steve
Young. Burial will be in Lee Cemetery.

Nell Alexander Jenkins, 71, wife of William G.
Jenkins, of 208 Belvue Drive, Union, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008 at
her home. Mrs. Jenkins was born in Goshen Hill, March 7, 1937, a
daughter of the late Lester L. Alexander and Frances Wilbanks
Alexander. She was a graduate of Whitmire High School and was a
member of Bethesda Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Thomas
L. Jenkins of Union; a sister, Dove Plemons of Whitmire; three
grandchildren, Zack Jenkins, Kurt Jenkins and Tonya Moss, all of
Union; two great-grandchildren, Ally Moss and Anna Moss, both of
Union; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Jenkins was
predeceased by a daughter, Glenda Lynn Jenkins, and a brother,
Thomas Alexander.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday,
Dec. 3, 2008, at S. R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev.
Steve Young and the Rev. Austin Bennett. A private burial will

McMillian, 79, widower of Mary Alexander McMillian, of6322 Whitmire
Hwy., died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000. Born in Buffalo, he was a son of
the late William Silas and Maggie Millwood McMillian. Attended:
Bethesda Baptist Church. Survivors: Daughters, Nancy Keller and Lynn
McMillian, both of Whitmire, and Judy Tankersley of Gray Court a
sister, Beatrice Alexander of Whitmire four grandchildren and four

Weston W. Windsor UNION, Nov. 30 –
Weston W. Windsor, 43, textile employee of Monarch Mills, was found
dead in bed at his home at Monarch this morning. Physicians said his
death was due to a heart ailment. Funeral services will be held
Thursday morning at 11 o’clock in Monarch Presbyterian Church,
conducted by the pastor, the Rev. F. E. Manning. Burial is to be in
Rosemont Cemetery of Union. Surviving are his widow; one
child; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Windsor, all of Monarch, and
two brothers, C. W. Windsor, Clinton, and M. M. Windsor of Woodruff.

Fuller GALAX, Va. – Nellie Gregory Fuller, 78, died
Wednesday. A Native of Union County, she was the daughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gregory. Survivors include a daughter,
Mrs. Clyde Rutledge of Galax; a sister, Lovonia Holt of Buffalo;
five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services
will be at 3 p.m. today at S. R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel, Union,

Rutledge UNION - Margaret Windsor Rutledge, 63, of 812
Beltline Road died Aug. 28, 1998, in Spartanburg Regional Medical
Center after a period of declining health. A native of Union,
she was the daughter of the late Wester Windsor and Nellie Gregory
Windsor Fuller. She was a member of Buffalo United Methodist
Church. Surviving are her husband, Clyde Rutledge; two
daughters, Lynn Bobo of Cowpens and Jo Frieda Good of Union; two
sons, Perry Haney of Union and Michael Rutledge of Greensboro, N.C.;
a stepson, Charles Rutledge of Union; five grandchildren. The
family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at S.R. Holcombe
Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fairview
Baptist Church by the Revs. Robert Cato and Ron Culbertson. Burial

of North Charleston, Robert C. Lindler of Union, and Larry J.

B. G. Wilburn Union,
Feb. 24 - B. G. Wilburn died at his ome at Cross Keys this morning
at 10:13 o'clock and will be buried tomorrow at Padgett's Creek
church. Mr. Wilburn had been in declining health for several
months. He was 70 years of age and was prominent in the
social, commercial and poltical life of this county. Since
young manhood he has been engaged in a merchandise business and
farming at Cross Keys. He is survived by his wife, who was
befor her marriage Miss Macie Whitmire and four sons and one
daughter, all residents of Cross Keys. Mr. Wilburn was a
Copnfederate veteran and was a member of the State legislature in
1913-14. He was a prominent Mason, having been several times
master of the lodge at Cross Keys. He was a member of
Padgett's Creek Baptist church and was prominently identifed with
