Whiteside Township
Whiteside Township - an Article from the Huronite, 26 Nov 1885
"Whiteside Whittlings"
Do any readers of these whittlings ever wonder where Whiteside is situated? I will tell you. She comprises township 112 range 65, and lies directly north from Wessington. The depot at Wessington is only a few rods from our border, while the railroad only misses us a few yards. Wessington is the natural market for our entire township. Most of us go to St. Lawrence to mill, while many of us go to Wolsey to trade, simply because we can buy enough cheaper to pay for the extra drive.
I have many times wondered where many of the HURONITE'S correspondents are located. I still wonder where Kellogg and Beatrice are.
We are still very busy threshing. I counted yesterday from one point thirty settings for the threshers.
Our Allicance is running again. The chief work they are at now, is the buying of coal for the winter.
Our two schools begin for the winter term next Monday. A. H. Liscomb and Mary H. English are to be the teachers.
A literary society was organized at the Barry school house last Saturday night. The officers for the first month are H. H. English, president; J. G. Christopher, vice president, and G. W. Nance, secretary and treasurer.
