Burr Oak township in the southwest corner of Beadle county was named from trees found in the ravines where also grew wild plums, grapes, gooseberries and black currants.  The first school was the Scofield.  Some of the first settlers were Mulvick, Olson, Hutchinson, Anderson, Scofield, Schoenleber, Hatch and Abbot.2   Organized May 13, 1884.1
