The Beadle County Settler, est. March 1880 by John Cain. In June, 1881, the name was changed to the Huron Times. In July, 1882, N. T. Smith, John Cain and Geo. B. Armstrong formed "The Times Company" partnership, and continued the weekly paper until Sep. 18th, 1882, then they added the Huron Daily Times.
The Dakota Central, A. M. Jones, editor. Est April 1880. Was suspended during the blockade of the following winter. Paper purchased by J. W. Shannon and G. W. Hopp, and on June 2d, 1881, they published The Huron Tribune. One Sep. 1, 1881, A. Davis was added to the firm. Jan 5, 1882 - name changed to the Dakota Huronite. Mar. 1882, they started publishing auxiliaries. June 9, 1882, A. Davis purchased the business.
The Dakota Farmer, est. at Alexandria, Dakota on Jan. 1, 1882 by James Baynes. Purchased Jan. 1, 1883 by A. Davis and he moved the publication to Huron. This was the only farm journal in South Dakota at this time.
The Dakota Daily and Weekly Leader. Est. June 1882 by E. T. Cressey
The Dakota Terra Firma. Semi-monthly journal devoted to real estate interests. First issue Aug. 1, 1883. L. M. Waterman and F. L. Osgood are publishers and proprietors. It was printed in the office of the Huronite Auxiliary Publishing House.
