C.H. Bell Dies In Hospital At Age Of 90
Clarence H. Bell, prominent retired Huron businessman, died in St. John's Hospital Saturday at the age of 90.
Funeral services will be held at the Welter Funeral Home chapel in Huron Monday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Rosehill Memorial Garden Cemetery, Missouri Valley, Ia.
Friends may call at the Welter chapel Sunday afternoon and evening.
Born In Iowa
Mr. Bell was born Dec. 18, 1870 in Clarence, Ia. He moved to Missouri Valley in 1893 and operated a bakery in that community from 1898 to 1908.
He moved to Huron from Missouri Valley and on Sept. 30, 1908 started the Bell Bakery in partnership with Peter Christensen.
In 1920 Christensen sold his interest and E. G. Schmidt purchased a half interest in the company. In 1931 Mr. Bell sold his interest to Schmidt and semi-retired from business, devoting his time to looking after his city and farm property holdings.
Member of Masons
He was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, a member of the Rotary Club and Elks Club and several Masonic orders, including Huron Lodge AF&AM, Huron Council Royal Select Master Masons, Knights Templar, and El Riad Shine, also the Order of Eastern Star.
He was married to Matilda Strohbehn April 4, 1900. He was preceded in death by his wife, July 25, 1960, and two sisters. There are no immediate surviving relatives. A nephew of Mrs. Bell, Harlan Heath and Mrs. Heath of Missouri Valley, are in Huron helping with funeral arrangements.
Civic Leader
Mr. Bell was prominent in Huron civic affairs and was active in promoting the old Yellowstone Trail, U. S. Highway 14 and State Highway 37. He was a member of the Beadle County War Price and Rationing Board and the city zoning board. He was a member of the board of trustees and treasurer of the Presbyterian Church for 18 years, a member of Rotary Club and a trustee of the Huron Elks lodge.
On March 8, 1946 he was recipient of the Huron Chamber of Commerce's distinguished award in recognition of his 37 years of civic service.
Bell moved recently to the Marvin Hughitt Hotel from the former family home at 509 Fourth St. S. W.

LAST RITES FOR MRS. MEIER Mrs. Elizabeth Meier, 70, of Wolsey, died in St. John's Hospital in Huron at 11 p.m. Friday, March 26 (1955). She had been hospitalized since March 18. Her death followed a lingering illness.
HELD MARCH 30 IN HURON
Elizabeth Evers was born in Miller March 1, 1885. She was married to Ferdinand Meier in 1910 and they lived near Highmore for some time. The past 10 years she resided in Wolsey.
Surviving are three sons: Alfred Meier of Faulkton; Lewis and George Meier of Wolsey. Also surviving are a brother John Evers of Miller; four sisters: Mrs. Mary Dillon of Highmore; Mrs. Sophie Brown of Miller; Mrs. Cap Kluthe of Miller and Mrs. Dora Lechtenberg of Orient; eight grandsons. Her husband died in 1950.
Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. March 30 at St. Martins Catholic Church in Huron and the Rev. Fr. Martin O'Connor was in charge. Burial was in St. Martin's Cemetery.
Pall bearers were her nephews John and George Sprenger, Orient, Ed Kluthe, Miller, Wilbur Dillon, Highmore, Howard and Andrew Brown, Harrold.
Attending the services from Miller were Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Kluthe, Mrs. Bob Seeman and Ed Kluthe.

Joseph F. Bucher Called by Death
Joseph F. Bucher died October 24, 1928, at his home, 1309 Dakota Avenue South, Huron, S.D., following an illness of long duration.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 10:30 o'clock in the St. Martin's Catholic church and burial was made in St. Martin's cemetery.
Joseph F. Bucher was born in the county of Argan, Switzerland, November 25, 1854. He came to the United States with his parents at the age of seven years and lived in Minneapolis until at the age of twelve. His folks moved to South Dakota in 1886 and homesteaded on land three miles west of Polo near Orient, where he grew to manhood.
After spending a few years in California he returned to Polo and established himself in the business of farming.
He was married to Bozina Kolda on September 15, 1908, and to this union were born Gladys; Lillian, who died in infancy; and Elmer.
In August, 1924, he moved from the old homestead to Huron and built the home where he lived to the time of his death at 1309 Dakota avenue south.
Mr. Bucher was one of the organizers and first president of the Ree Valley Farmers Mutual Fire and Lightning Insurance Company. He was one of the leaders in his community and very successful in his business activities.
He leaves to mourn his death the widow, Mrs. Bozina Bucher, Gladys Bucher, an only daughter, and Elmer, an only son, three brothers, Frank and Henry, of California and Edward of Polo, S.D., and four sisters, Miss Elizabeth Bucher, of San Francisco, California; Mrs. Vernon Lew, of Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Mary Faggner of Okobojo, S.D.; and Mrs. Herman Martinmaas, of Polo, S.D. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
INJURIES FATAL TO HURON YOUTH Clarence Riley, 14-Year-Old Junior High School Student Dies Last Night
Complications from injuries received while playing ball at a school picnic Monday afternoon proved fatal to Clarence Alvin Riley, 14-year-old Huron Junior High School pupil, who died in a local hospital at 8:30 o'clock last night.
Young Riley received a broken right arm and in receiving treatment for the injury ether pneumonia set it.
He was born in Winfred, S.D., February 27, 1924, coming to Huron with his parents in December, 1929 to reside on a farm two miles south of Huron in Custer Township. For the first four years he attended the Lincoln School in Huron, and then went to the Custer Township School graduating from the eighth grade. He entered Huron Junior High School last fall.
Surviving him besides the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph G. Riley, are one sister, Mina Rose, two years old; his grandfather, Frank Reed, who lives at the Riley home, and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Riley of Winfred, who arrived here last evening.
Funeral services are to be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home and at 2:30 o'clock at the Methodist Church in Huron. Dr. C. E. Wilcox, the Rev. F. E. Morrison of Huron and the Rev. F. E. Lochridge of Mitchell will officiate and burial will be made in Riverside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clarence's friends: Dwight and Gerald Wagner, Judson Ball, Robert Van Dyke, Robert Mycue and Junior Lochridge of Mitchell. Lake Preston -- The funeral service for Mrs. Olga Anderson was to have been held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Oldham Lutheran Church with the Rev. Philip Blilie officiating. Burial was to be in the Oldham Lutheran Cemetery.
Mrs. Anderson, 74, had been a resident of Lake Preston for the past 10 years, moving here from a farm near Oldham. She was a life long member of the Lutheran Church.

Verne C. Bonesteel, a former Huron resident, died Monday in Washington, D. S., where he has lived for the past several years.Bonesteel, a graduate of Huron High school and the University of Wisconsin, was a cashier in the James Valley Bank while living in Huron. He was also associated with banks in Sioux City and Aurora, Ill. He was chief examiner of Federal Home Loan Bank in Washington, D. C. for many years. E. F. CRITCHETT DIES; RITE SATURDAY
Edward Fowler Critchett, 73, former Huron Standard Oil Company executive, died in St. John's Hospital late Thursday afternoon.Critchett, who lived with his wife at 1333 Wisconsin Ave., S. W., had been in failing health for several years.
The funeral service will be at the Aaseth Funeral Home Saturday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Rueben Koehler officiating. Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday evening and Saturday morning. The casket will not be opened during the funeral. The family rpefers memorials to the heart fund. Critchett was born in Duluth, Minn., June 29, 1892, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest T. Critchett. At the age of two years he moved with his parents to New Ulm, Minn. He was graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1913 with a bachelor of science degree and in 1914 received a degree in mechanical engineering. At Minnesota University he was a meber of Pi Beta Phi fraternity.
He was married Oct. 22, 1920 in Minneapolis to Aillen Belyea.
He served in the U. S. Air Force during World War I and four years taught in Edison High School in Minneapolis. He joined Standard Oil Company in 1924 and after serving with that company in Minneapolis, Quincy, Ill, and Chicago was transferred to Huron in 1935. He was with the Huron division office for two years and returned again in 1939. At the time of his retirement in 1952 he as assistant division manager, resale. He was a member of the Masonic lodge, Commandery and Knights Templar, all of Minneapolis. He was also a member of the Congregational Church.

Calvin HindsC. P. HINDS DIES SUDDENLY ON FARM
A heart attack apparently caused the death of Calvin P. Hinds, 67, who died this morning while at work in the field on his farm, 13 miles northeast of Huron.
Mr. Hinds was born in Ford County, Ill., Nov. 12, 1879, and came to South Dakota in 1904. He farmed in the vicinity of Hitchcock until 26 years ago when he moved to his present farm. Hughest was born Feb.22, 1911, at Redfield, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Hughes. He was married to Elizabeth West in 1929 and they spent most of their married life in the Redfield area.

The funeral service for Mrs. George F. Jones, 83, formerly of Huron, was held Aug 17 at Schenk-Murphy Funeral Home, Yankton. Burial was at Long Beach, Calif. Mrs. Jones died at Yankton Aug 15.
Mrs. Jones was a resident of Huron until 1945 when she and her husband moved to Long Beach. He preceded her in death in 1955. Since that time she had made her home with her children. Survivors include two daughters, Margaret, Mrs. E.M. Christensen, Huron, Mildred, Mrs. C. J. Hauge, Homewood, Ill.; one son, Gerald G. Knutz was born Jan. 3, 1886, in Hamburg, Germany, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Knutz. He came to the United States with his parents when he was three years old and they settled in Sedalia, MO. He came to Huron in 1908 and on March 30, 1910, he was married to Elvirta Graves. They made their home on a farm south of Huron until 1958, when they retired and moved to Huron. He was a member of IOOF Lodge. Mrs. and Mrs. Knutz celebrated their golden anniversary on March 30, 1960.Survivors include three sons, William Jr., Huron; Howard, Dayton, Ore.; Richard, McMinnville, Ore.; two daughters, Mabel, Mrs. Ray Seigenthaler, Huron; Dorothy, Mrs. Duane Schlomer, Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, George, Sedalia; one sister, Anne Colrey (note: Corley), Nampa, Idaho, 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. JOHN KUPER DIES WEDNESDAY; RITE SATURDAY
John J. Kuper, 1455 Wisconsin Ave. S. W., Huron, died early Wednesday morning in the Veterans Hospital at Sioux Falls where he had been a patient three weeks.
Kuper was born April 9, 1892, at Orient and lived at Orient and Miller most of his life. He moved to Huron in 1945 and was employed as a carpenter. He married Kathryn Walton in 1912 at Miller. She preceded him in death. He married Adeline Deckert May 3, 1960. He was a veteran of World Wars I and II. Kuper was a member of the Veterans of Foregin Wars and American Legion.
Survivors include his widow, one daughter, Evelyn, Mrs. Harold Lather, Mmiller; three stepdaughters, Eileen Deckert, Huron; Mrs. Fred Beadles, Huron; Mrs. Ralph Barnum, Chadron, Neb.; one sister, Anna Kelly, Miller; two brothers, Henry, Salem, Ore.; Joseph, Rockham; one half brother, Frank Hand, Edgemont; one grandson and one great-grandson. His parents, first wife, three sons, one sister and one brother preceded him in death.
The funeral service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Aaseth Funeral Home. The Rev. Joe E. Wipf will officiate. A prayer service is scheduled at 8 p.m. Friday. He spent his entire life in the Frankfort community, where he farmed until 1951; he then moved into town. Lambert was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include two sons, Daryle, Turton; Merle, Frankfort; seven grandchildren, two brothers, Joe, Ashton; Robert, Frankfort; and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Ames, Intake, Mont.; Miss Rose Lambert, Aberdeen and Mrs. Anna Spear, Ashton.

MRS. EMMA LYON DIES IN OREGON
Word was received from Eugene, Ore., of the recent death of Mrs. Emma Hill Lyon, 86. A former Huronian, Mrs. Lyon was the sister of R. B. Hill, Arcadia, Calif., and the late Misses Mae and Bessie Hill, Huron, and the late Will Hill, Aberdeen.In 1964 Mrs. Lyon established a $25,000 endowment fund for the University of Oregon history department in memory of her husband, the late Col. Robert M. Lyon, former commanding officer of the university's ROTC department and an associate professor in the history department. Mary B. Fahey was born March 31, 1897, to Dennis and Margaret Fahey at Emery. She moved to Philip with her parents in 1907. Since her marriage to Herbert Mahowald, Nov. 26, 1923, she had made her home in Huron. She was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

The funeral service for Thomas Marshall, 76, who died Saturday at his home in Grant Township, will be held Tuesday at the Welter Funeral Home at 2 p.m. The Rev. Erling Erickson will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be William Knutz, Jr., Joseph Lucklum, John Richards, William Schwartz, W. K. Danneier and Chris Marcus. A native of Norfolk, Neb., Marshall was born June 14, 1893, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Marshall. He came to the Huron area in 1905 and farmed here since. He married Elsie Haas in 1920. He served in the U. S. Charles A. MitchellPUBLISHER OF BROOKINGS REGISTER DIES
Brookings -- Charles A. (Art) Mitchell, publisher of the Brookings Register, died here Friday afternoon.Mitchell, 56, had been hospitalized since he suffered on Christmas Eve the second heart attack in the past 20 months. He was the second of his name in a newspaper family going back many years in South Dakota. Mitchell and late father, C. H. J. Mitchell, who died in 1961, had been owners of The Register sincd 1936. Before that the elder Mitchell held an interest in the old Sioux Falls Press. The Rapid City Journal and The Daily Huronite, predecessor to the Huron Daily Plainsman.
The younger Mitchell was generally known as "Art" in his father's lifetime to distinguish between the two.
Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the St. Paul Episcopal Church here, with burial at the Greenwood Cemetery.
Charles A. Mitchell was born Dec. 31, 1909 at Storm Lake, Iowa. He was graduated in 1932 from the University of Nebraska. He was editor of The Daily Nebraskan, a student publication. On graduation, he moved to Brookings by way of The Press & Dakotan at Yankton and The Huronite at Huron. He interrupted his service at The Register only to serve in the Air Force from 1942 to 1946. He was instrumental in promoting commercial air line service to Brookings. He served on the airport board and was, for years, its chairman. At the time of his death, he was a member of the board of the Greater South Dakota Association and a board member of the State Printers Association. He was past president of the South Dakota Press Association. He also was past president of South Dakota's chapter of Sigma Delta Chi, professional journalism society. He was a member of Brookings Masonic Lodge and of El Riad Shrine at Sioux Falls. He is survived by his wife, Ada.

Miller -- The funeral service for Mrs. Maggie McDonald was held Monday afternoon at the Reck Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ernest Hoversten officiating; burial was in Howell Cemetery.Maggie Carl was born May 4, 1884, in Hand County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elya Carl. She attended school in Hand County and in 1904 was married to Joseph Sherman McDonald. They lived in Hand County until 1927, when they moved to Hill City. McDonald died in 1941 and Mrs. McDonald returned to Hand County in September, 1965. She died oct. 1, at Hand County Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include one daughter, Ethel, Mrs. Clarence Johnson, Wessington; one step-daughter, Eda Johnson, Silver City, N.M.; two sons, Ben, Superior, Mon.; Ralph, Silver City; one step-son, Louis S., Denver, Colo. and 13 grandchildren. Word was received of the death July 23 of Mrs. Melvin Newcombe, the former Frances G. Seaton of Huron.A native of Huron, Mrs. Newcombe was graduated from Huron High School two years and was graduated from San Jose State Teachers College in 1931 with a major in art. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Ray Seaton, Apt. ?, 2920 Highland Ave., Manhattan Beach, Calif. She was preceded in death by her father, former C. and N. RITE SET FOR OTIS OSBORNE, 87, EARLY RESIDENT
Raymond - The funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church for Otis Floyd (Dick) Osborne, 87. The Rev. Robert Seater will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Valley Cemetery.
Osborne died Thursday at a Watertown hospital. He was born July 13, 1878, at Marengo, Ill., to Mr. and Mrs. Otis Osborne. He married Fannie Hull at Watertown Nov. 27, 1903. He farmed in the Raymond community except for two years spent in California.Survivors include his widow, Fannie; one son, George, Raymond; one grandson, Mike, Raymond; one granddaughter, Mrs. Robert Bonfoey, Watertown; two brothers, Will, Minneapolis and Charlie, Richmond, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one daughter and one brother.

Arlington - Christian Paulson, 79, Lake Norden, died Tuesday at a Watertown hospital where he had been a patient for several weeks. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bethany Lutheran Church, Badger, with the Rev. Don Niedringhaus officiating. Burial will be in the Danish Lutheran Cemetery.

Mrs. Carroll (Maude) Penley, 77, Huron Trailer Court, died Monday morning at St. John's Hospital. The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Welter Funeral Home with Max A. Towell officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.Friends may call at the funeral home from 12 to 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Maude Burdon was born Feb. 5, 1892 to Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Burdon at Missuola, Mont. She moved to Boston in 1921 and was married to Carroll Penley, July 21, 1923. She was employed at the Walter E. Fernald School for Mentally Retarded Children, Boston, for 24 years. Following her retirement in 1961 (or 1951, hard to read) she moved to Huron.

RITE HELD FOR HENRY PILLARD
Wessington-The funeral service for Henry Pillard, 64, was held Aug. 21 at First Presbyterian Church with Loftus H. Ward officiating. Burial with military rites by the Watson-Krauter Post American Legion was at the Wessington Cemetery.Pillard was born Oct. 26, 1900, at Coggon, Iowa, the son of Henry and Lucy Pillard. He was graduated from Iowa State University at Ames and was coach and teacher at Alcoa, Tenn. and Cresco, Iowa. During World War II he served in the Navy from 1942-45. He married Miriam Naeve, June 27, 1944, at Lost Angeles. They lived at Anamosa, Iowa, and Lemmon before moving to Wessington three years ago.

Faulkton -- Lyman Pratt, long time teacher now retired and retired leiutenant colonel in the U. S. Infantry, died Monday night at his home in Faulkton.

Funeral services will be held at the Catholic Church in Ethan Saturday morning for Mrs. John N. Reinartz who died at a Huron hospital at 5:40 o'clock this morning following a brief illness. Burial will be in the family lot there.Rosary will be held at the home at 131 Second St. S.E. at 8:30 o'cloock this evening and again at 8:30 Friday evening.
Mrs. Reinarts was born in New Hampton, Ia., Feb. 6, 1882, a daughter of Anna and John Reinsbach. She married John Reinartz at Dimock Feb. 3, 1903. They lived at Ethan until 1925 when they came to Huron where they have since resided.
Surviving in addition to the husband are five children: Albert Reinartz, Mrs. Leona Schultz and Mrs. Esther Fenski, Huron; Leo Reinartz and Mrs. Margaret Nordquist, Beresford; also 17 grandchildren, seven sisters and one brother. Roalstad was born in Miller March 1, 1920. He was graduated from Miller High School. He served in the U. S. Army in the Philippines and Korea. He married Charlotte Abernathy in Chicago in 1941. He was employed in Reno as a plumber the past two years.

EARLY PIONEER OF REE HEIGHTS BURIED
Ree Heights, June 12 - Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, June 5, in Ree Heights for Mrs. Henry Scott, 81, prominent Ree Heights resident and the last pioneer of Spring Hills Township, who died June 3, in the Miller Hospital. The Rev. I. N. Stanley of Ree Heights and the Rev. Joseph Andrews of Miller officiated. Burial was in Morningside Cemetery beside her husband.Honorary pallbearers were: Paul Blaseg, James Hall, Peter Namanny, Tom Tripp, Austin Connelly and Martin Llighschiet. Active pallbearers were: E. J. Leyson, J. Lawler, Joe Butler, Thor Nerland, Robert Henson and Bert Bowdon.
Isabell Jessie Taylor, daughter of Elizabeth and John Taylor, was born at Bradhead, Wis., Aug. 24, 1865. Her parents died when she was a young girl and she came to Dakota Territory in 1884 with her sister and family, the J. Romeys. She married Henry Scott Dec. 3, 1885, in Ree Heights. To this union, six children were born.
Mrs. Scott united with the Christian Church in 1898. She worked in the Spring Hill Sunday School and has helped in the Congregational Church when her health permitted. She and her husband homesteaded in Spring Hill Township. They pioneered in getting the home started and the township organized. Mrs. Scott served as mid-wife in many homes in earlier days. They lived on the home place continuously for 55 years with the exception of a few years during World War I. After Mr. Scott's death in 1939, she moved to Ree Heights, where she had since resided.
Surviving are five children: Miss Mina Scott, Mrs. Jessie Suhn and Douglas Scott, all of Ree Heights; Morris Scott, Goose Creek, Tex.; and Mrs. Vera Webber, Boulder, Colo.; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. [The Daily Plainsman, Thursday, June 12, 1947 - Submitted by Karen Seeman]
Mrs. Millard G. ScottMRS. M. G. SCOTT DIES SUDDENLY OF HEART ATTACK
Mrs. Millard G. Scott, former resident of Huron, died suddenly this morning at Custer, where she had her husband had made their home since leaving Huron early in 1964.Mrs. Scott was stricken and died about 10 minutes after reaching a hospital. Death was attributed to a heart attack.
The Scotts were active in Huron community affairs and Mrs. Scott was prominent in Methodist Church circles. Scott was a former director of South Dakota Rural Credits and also former president of the Huron Chamber of Commerce. In 1964 he was awarded the Chamber's Distinguished Citizen citation. Scott had been engaged in the real estate and insurance business in Huron since moving here in 1964. The Scotts made their home at 1316 Dakota Ave., South. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church at Willow Lake.

Alpena - Mrs. Annie Stone of Alpena died in Jerauld County Memorial Hospital at Wessington Springs at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday at the age of 93.Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Basham Funeral Home in Woonsocket. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery at Alpena.
Mrs. Stone had made her home at Storla Sunset Home for several years and prior to that had lived with her brother, Herbert Lound in Alpena since 1948. She came to Alpena after her husband's death at Denver in 1948. She had lived in Denver since 1911 and was married to William Stone in 1923. FUNERAL IS HELD FOR HYDE COUNTY PIONEER
Highmore, Dec. 31 - (Special) - Funeral services were held last Sunday afternoon for Carl Sunding, pioneer resident of Hyde County. The Rev. W. P. Slocum conducted the rites at the Methodist Church here.
Carl A. Sunding was born in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1872 and came with his parents to America in 1881. The family first lived at Rochelle, Ill., and four years later moved to South Dakota. In 1894 Mr. Sunding filed a homestead claim in Hyde County and became the owner of a farm which had been his home ever since.He was married to Robertina MacDonald in 1897. They were the parents of four children, one dying in infancy. Survivors include his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Doris Christensen; two sons, Donald of Highmore and Glen at home; one sister, Mrs. Ed Knudtson of Pelican Falls, Minn., and two brothers, Conrad and Gunther of Highmore. Mrs. Enoch Hofer Taken in Death
Mrs. Enoch Hofer, 80, died in the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. M. Tschetter, 18 miles northeast of Huron, at 3 a.m. today following an illness of long duration.
Anna Kleinsasser was born March 12, 1866, in south Russia, coming to the United States with her parents in 1877. They settled in Yankton, later moving to Freeman. May 11, 1884, she was married to Enoch Hofer and they continued to live there until 1929 when they moved to Beadle County, which has since been her home. Mr. Hofer died in November 1932.
She is survived by four daughters and two sons: Mrs. John A. Hofer, Mrs. John M. Tschetter, Huron; Mrs. Joe S. K. Hofer, Weeping Water, Neb.; Mrs. Joshua J. Hofer, Onida; Andrew E. Hofer, Huron, and John E. Hofer, Hitchcock. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. David M. Waldner of Doland.
Funeral services are to be held Saturday at 12 o'clock at the home and at 1:30 o'clock at the Emmanuel Church, located five miles northwest of Bloomfield. Burial will be made there.

MRS. BELLE M. SCHRODER
Belle M. Lee was born March 7, 1859, in Rushville, Ill., where she grew to young womanhood. She was one of four children, all of whom with her father and mother preceded her in death.
She was married to Henry J. Schroder in 1879 at Burlington, Ia., and to this union was born two children: George G. Schroder and Mabel Ambrosis, both of Huron, who survive her. There are also ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Mrs. Schroder came to the vicinity of Huron many years ago. She was a life long and faithful member of the Christian Church, and a mamber of the Women's Relief Corps of Huron for more than ten years.
Pallbearers at the funeral were T. M. Simmons, George W. Wright, Robert Timm, J. W. Kiser, W. A. Johnson and Dr. M. C. Sorenson. Mrs. Schroder was laid to rest beside her husband, who died April 26, 1927, in Riverside Cemetery.

Blanche Oliver was born May 14, 1890, at Burlington Junction, Mo., the daughter of Lillian and Jesse Clint Oliver. She came to South Dakota in 1913 with her parents and resided here since. She was married to Charles H. Pefferkorn, Feb. 16, 1915. She was a member of the Mother's Club and First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one sister, Mrs. John (Shirley) Kouf, Huron; one brother, Carel Oliver, Portland, Ore.; nieces and nephews. Her parents, husband, infant son and two sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral Set Wednesday for Mrs. Gessner, 88
The funeral service for Mrs. Daisy Gessner, 88, who died Monday evening at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Welter Funeral Home. Loftus H. Ward will officiate; burial will be in the Doland Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday evening.
Daisy Bristor was born June 1, 1878, at Ottawa, Ill., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Bristor. As a girl she came to Odell, Neb., with her parents crossing both the Mississippi and Missouri rivers in a covered wagon on a ferry. She resided there until she was 12 when she moved to Clarion, Iowa. She married C. Monroe Severe in June, 1896. To this union were born three children. In 1920 the family moved to Doland and farmed. Her husband died in 1927. She married Robert Gessner in Huron in 1932 where she had lived since.
Survivors include one son, Cassius Severe, Bagley, Minn.; two daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Dahl, Mill Valley, Calif., and Madeline Severe, Philadelphia; 18 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Otto Herrick, Fargo.

Walter D. Steele Dies in Portland
Word was received Monday night by Mrs. R. M. Pease of the death of her brother, Walter D. Steele, 66, of 7867 S.E. Ninth, Portland, Ore.
Steele, a native of Beadle County and son of the late Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Steele, died of a heart attack Monday evening. He was a cafe operator. He had been a resident of Portland about 25 years.
Survivors include his widow, the former Opal Brady of Onida; one son Delbert and one daughter Lois, Mrs. Merritt Ellsworth, both of Portland.
Mrs. Pease plans to attend the funeral service scheduled Thursday in Portland.

Burial Scheduled at Huron for Mrs. Christopher
Onida - The funeral service for Mrs. Bertha Bandy Christopher, 84, will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the Presbyterian Church in Onida. Graveside rite will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Huron, at 2 p.m.
Mrs. Christopher died Sunday at the Gettysburg Hospital. She lived in Huron many years when her first husband, Oscar Bandy, was section foreman for the C & NW Railway. He died in 1941.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Leah Roddewig, Mrs. Preston Starbuck, Mrs. Alvin Thomas, all of Onida; one son, Leslie, Portland, Ore; one brother and two sisters. In addition to her husband Oscar, she was prededed in death by her husband Alfred Christopher and her brother V. W. Deyo, Huron.

Melvin Iverson Rite Wednesday
DeSmet - Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Christian Missionary Alliance Church for Melvin V. Iverson, 67, who died at his home here Sunday after a lingering illness. The Rev. David Baynes will officiate. Burial will be in De Smet Cemetery.
Iverson was born June 24, 1905, to Martin and Anna Iverson. He married Laura Smith Dec. 20, 1925, in Clark. They lived in Clark and Huron. They moved to a farm near Bancroft in 1945 where he farmed and operated a machine shop. They moved to De Smet in 1958 where he operated a machine shop.
Survoviros include his widow, Laura; four daughters, Mrs. Maurice (Dorothy) Hale, Mitchell; Mrs. Donald (Phyllis) Kornder, Riverton, Wyo.; Mrs. Martin (Mary Ann) Ellingson, Lake Preston; Mrs. Larry (Connie) Cheney, De Smet; two sisters, Mrs. William (Mamie) Ross, Clark; Mrs. Walter (Verna) Sasse, Woodburn, Ore.; three brothers, Clifford, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; Wesley, Canton; Dale, McFadden, Wyo.; 24 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
Funeral arrangements were announced by the Ketelsen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mrs. Traugott (Mary) Arbeiter, 86, who died Sunday at the Eventide Nursing Home, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Mt. Olivet Mennonite Church with the Rev. Carl Jantz officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Mary W. Wurz was born Sept. 26, 1886, in Hutchinson County near Freeman to Joseph and Barbara Wurz. She married Traugott Arbeiter, March 9, 1905, at Freeman. They lived in the D??ton area from 1905 to 1919 when they moved to the Huron area.
Survivors include four sons, Joe, Yale; Jake, Huron; Edward, Huron; William, St. Louis; four daughters, Mrs. John (Rose) Hofer, Fresno, Calif.; MRs. John (Adina) Waldner, Fresno, Calif.; Mrs. George (Mary) Ohm, Bruce; Mrs. Ed (Annie) Moeller, Loveland, Colo.; 26 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dec. 24, 1971 and one brother.

Mrs. Emma Davison Funeral Tuesday
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Welter Chapel with the Rev. Albert Peters in charge for Mrs. Emma Davison of 929 Simmons Ave. S.E. who died in the Huron Hospital Firday afternoon. She had been hospitalized Nov. 10 and died at the age of 68.
Burial will be in the family lot in Ideal Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Halbur, Allen Stephenson, Earnest Kimmel, James May, Carl Jorgenson, James Pappas. The active pallbearers will be Ted North, Carl Jorgenson, Jr., Ralph Atkins, Merle Halbur, Clarence Vanderhule, Blaine Bennett.
Friends may call at the Welter Chapel this Monday evening.
Emma June Brown, eldest daughter of the late Prof. and Mrs. Joe W. Brown, was born in Taylorsville, Ill., Nov. 7, 1877. She received her education in New Concord, Ohio and moved to Huron in 1905 where her father served as professor of music in Huron College and she was a college student. She was married to Fred Elmer Davison June 26, 1912 and to this union 11 children were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband who died Nov. 14, 1952; two sons, Sgt. Faris Brown who died Oct. 30, 1944; Russell who died in 1917 and a daughter, Eleanor, who died May 17, 1920.
Surviving are two sons, three daughters; Vance and Robert Davison and MRs. Mary North, all of Huron; MRs. Julia Eddy LaSalle, Ill., and Mrs. Isabel Atkins, Kimball. Also surviving are a brother and five sisters and 10 grandchildren.
She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church.

John Lyon Rites to be Tuesday
John Lyon, 86, died Saturday at 9 p.m. in St. John's Hospital where he had been hospitalized since August of 1955.
He was born June 24, 1869 in New Boston, Ia., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Zachary Lyon. He was married to Ida Sprake in Mount Rose, Ill., who preceded him in death.
Surviving are five sons and two daughters: John and Charles of Hammond, Inda.; Robert of Huron; Park of Cavour; Carl of Sioux Falls; Susan and Calla of Burlington, Ia.
The sons will be pallbearers.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Martin's Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Martin's Cemetery. Rosary is to be said this Monday evening at eight o'clock at the Welter Chapel.

Thompson Rite Slated Tuesday at St. Martin's
Requiem Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Martin's Catholic Church for Gerald S. Thompson, 63, 177 Idaho Ave. S.E. The Rev. Kenneth Schmitz will officiate. Burial will be at St. Martin's Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Don Sheridan, G. Allan Walker, Mike Morrissey, Gene Garry, Peter Thielen and John Hanley.
Rosary will be recited Monday evening at teh Welter Funeral Home and all members of the K. C. Council are asked to attend. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday evening.
Thompson died Saturday at St. John's Hospital. He was born March 9, 1901, in Beadle County, the son of Gillin and Sara Thompson. He resided in Huron most of his life. He was in business in the former Thompson-Walker City Service Station and operated a rental service. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Neuman in Huron in February 1935. He was a member of the K. C. Council and St. Martin's Church.
Survivors include his widow, Elizabeth, El Monte, Calif.; one daughter, Juliet, San Francisco; one brother, Clifford, Denver; and one sister, MRs. Margaret Oanes, Pocahontas, Iowa.

Neva Garmen was born in Plano, Ill., to Charles and Edna Garmen Dec. 27, 1903. She came to Scotland as a young girl and graduated from Scotland High School. She was married to Anton Kowalski Jan. 6, 1922. They moved to Highmore and in 1942 moved to Huron. She was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church.
Surviving are her husband, three daughters, Dorothy, Mrs. Hubert Scheiffer, Savage, Mont.; Edith, Mrs. Dale Clegg, Minneapolis; Marjorie, Mrs. Paul Oestereich Jr., Ft. Pierre; three sons, Harrold of Minneapolis; Lt. August, stationed in Guam, and Joseph, Portland, Ore.

Lips was born Dec. 6, 1901, the son of Jacob and Anne Lips, near Hitchcock. He married Ellen Gustafson, Dec. 16, 1926. They moved to Pipestone, Minn., in 1931, where they resided until 1934 when they returned to Huron. They have lived in Hitchcock since 1945 where Lips was engaged in the draying business. He was a member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Ellen; three sons, Lloyd, Yankton; Wayne and Dale, Wichita, Kan.; one daughter, Alice, Mrs. James VanderLinden, Sioux Falls; three grandchildren; three brothers, Lester, Aurora, Ill.; Virgin, Huron, and Walter, Hitchcock; one sister, Ruth, Mrs. Charles Otto, Tulare. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one grandchild.

Mrs. A. M. (Maude) Urquhart, 638 Oregon Ave. S.E., died Thursday at 6 a.m. at St. John's Hospital at the age of 89.

Steffen, Jan. 18, 1905, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1955. Her husband preceded her in death, March 8, 1958.
Survivors include two sons, Max L., Minneapolis, and Robert D., Duluth; one daughter, Beth, Mrs. Glenn Dickinson, Huron; five grandchildren; one great grand-child; one brother, William O'Brien, Huron; and one sister, Mrs. Eva Fillis, Storla.

Mrs. Thresia Nelson, 77, 377 Beach Ave. S.E., died Thursday morning at St. John's Hospital.

William J. Busch Succumbs Friday
William J. A. Busch, died early Friday at his home, 706 Nevada Ave. S.W., at the age of 74. He had bee custodian at the Huron post office 30 years before his retirement a few years ago.
Survivors include six children, Paul M., Eugene R., William J., Hugo E., Mrs. Louis M. Daum and Mrs. Ford Andrews, all of Huron.
The Welter Funeral Home is making arrangements which are incomplete.
