Ruzicka-Neuendorf

 

     At a quiet morning wedding, at St. Ann's Catholic church, Miss Elsie Neuendorf became the bride of William Ruzicka.  Father Hyland read the nuptial mass at half past six, in the presence of the immediate family members.

     For her marriage, the bride chose a navy blue street costume with rose trim.  Her hat was also navy blue.  She wore a shoulder corsage of gardenias and roses.

     Her attendant was Mrs. Frank Hatch, sister of the groom.  Her costume was of dustry rose, with which she wore a navy blue hat.  Roses, asters and pompoms formed her shoulder corsage.

     The groom was attended by his brother, Joe Ruzicka.  Both men wore dark suits, and white carnation boutonierres.

     The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Caroline Neuendorff.  Since her graduation from high school in Miller, she has been employed in one of the federal agencies at the court house.

     The groom is the eldest son of Mrs. Mary Ruzicka of Miller.  For several years he has been in charge of the merchanical departments at Kindred's Garage.

     Following a wedding trip to the western part of the state, they will make their home in Miller, in the house north of the Catholic church, which they 
have purchased.

 


Meier-Schaefers

 

At the Polo church early Tuesday morning, October 26, Rev. P. A. Lauer officiating, occurred the marriage of Miss Clara Meier to Mr. Xavier Schaefers.  A large number of relatives and friends were in attendance.

John Schaefers, brother of the groom, was best man, and Miss Francis Meier, sister of the bride, bridesmaid.

The bride, beautifully gowned in a creation of white, trimmed with lace, looked exceptionally sweet and attractive.

After the ceremony a wedding dinner was served at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Meier.

All happiness to them on their journey through life.

 


 

Gebes - Schaefers

 

Miss Mary Eleanor Gebes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gebes, of Milesville, S.D. and August Vincent Schaefers, of Polo, S.D., were united in marriage Tuesday, June 11th.  The ceremony was performed at St. Joseph's Church by Rev. William H. McGuill, who also celebrated the nuptial Mass which followed.  Miss Catherine Gebes, sister of the bride, and Mr. Schaefers, brother of the bridegroom, were the attendants.

The bride wore a dress of white Canton Crepe heavily beaded with pearls, and a veil adorned with orange blossoms.  She carried a bouquet of tea roses and a La Tausca pearl rosary, mounted in gold, a gift from her Pastor.  Her attendant wore Rose Canton Crepe heavily beaded, with hat to match.  She carried a bouquet of roses and a white ivory prayerbook.  Two young sisters of the bride were flower girls.

Many beautiful selections were rendered by Rev. Fr. Callahan, Mr. and Mrs. Baker, accompanied by Miss Alzo Baker on the violin.

Following the ceremony a wedding dinner was served to the relatives at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gebes.  After a wedding trip to the Black Hills, Mr. and Mrs. August Schaefers will reside at Polo, S.D.

Deuter - Schlechter

 

Miss Francis E. Deuter of Ree Heights and Herman A. Schlechter of Polo were united in marriage at nine o'clock Wednesday morning June 25, at the St. Liborious church at Polo, Rev. Pothmann officiating.

Conrad and Bernadine Schlechter, brother and sister of the groom, were the attendants.

The bride was becomingly attired in white crepe and wore a corsage of brides roses, snapdragons and carnations.  Her bridesmaid wore pale green crepe with a corsage boquet of snapdragons.

After the ceremony, the wedding breakfast was served to the bridal party at the home of the groom's parents.  Six o'clock dinner was served at the home of the bride.

The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Deuter and has taught several years in this county.  The groom is a prosperous farmer living near Polo, where the happy young couple will make their home.

The many friends of both will join in wishing them happiness and prosperity.

Schlechter - Halligan

 

Miss Kathleen Halligan, of Moorland, Ia., and Mr. Augustine Schlechter, of Orient, S.D., were married at Our Lady of Good Counsil Church in Moorland, Tuesday morning August 25th.

The nuptial Mass was celebrated by Rev. Father B. A. Hunt, Mrs. Allen Kale played Mendelssohn's wedding march as the bridal party entered the church and during the offertory Miss Regina McCarville sang Ave Marie.  The bride's gown was fashioned of white satin back faced crepe and worn with a veil arranged in cap style to a wreath of pearls.  She carried an arm bouquet of Ophelia roses and balsam.  She was attended by her sister, Miss Margaret Halligan, who wore a gown of rose colored crepe with hat to match and a corsage of sweet peas and ferns.

Clarence Loughran served the groom as best man.  Following the ceremony a four course wedding breakfast was served at the home of the bride's parents Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Halligan to the imeediate relatives and friends.

The colors of pink and white and a profusion of garden flowers were used in the table adornment.

Out of town relatives in attendance were the Misses Marie and Eleanor Schlechter, sisters of the groom from Orient, S. Dak. and Mr. and Mrs. George Madden and family from Fonda, Ia.

After an extended auto trip through the west which will include a trip through Yellowstone National Park they will be at home to their many friends after Sept. 21st on the grooms farm near Orient.

 

 


 

Schlechter-Schaefer Wedding Tuesday

 

     On Tuesday morning occurred the wedding of Miss Anna M. Schaefer and Mr. Peter J. Schlechter at St. Joseph's church, Rev. John A. Krebs performing the ceremony.

     Following the ceremony, a wedding dinner was served at the home of the bride's brother, Anton J. Schaefer, to a large number of relatives and friends.  A wedding dance followed that evening.

     The bride is one of the popular young ladies of Orient, having grown to young womanhood in this community, and has a host of friends who extend best wishes.  The groom is a prosperous young farmer of Cologne, Minnesota.

     The newly weds departed this morning for their home on the groom's farm near Cologne, Minnesota.

 


Double Wedding at Polo, Tuesday

 

A double wedding occurred at Polo, Tuesday morning, when X. Schlechter and Miss Katie Venjohn and C. Schlechter and Miss Mary Venjohn were married, Rev. Fr. Pothmann conducting the ceremony.

The grooms are prosperous farmers at Polo and the brides are popular young ladies of the Polo community.

Seventy-five guests enjoyed a wedding dinner at the home of the brides' parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Venjohn, immediately after the ceremony.  A dance was given in honor of the newlyweds at the Polo school Tuesday evening, with music furnished by the Venjohn Orchestra, which is composed of three brothers of the bride's father, of Wisner, Nebr.

The brides were entertained at three social functions during the past week.  A shower was given in their honor Wednesday afternoon at the J. B. Miller home, and on Sunday afternoon at the Chas. Froning home.  On Sunday evening the Young Ladies Sodality gave a reception and dance at the Polo school, with music by the Venjohn Orchestra.

The Argus joins with their many friends in extending congratulations.

 

 


 

Popular Couple Wedded June 10th

Sebring -- Stapp

A very pretty home wedding occured Wednesday, June 10th, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Stapp, near Rockham, when their daughter, Esther, was united in marriage to Fred Sebring.  The ceremony was performed by the Rev. John Bury, of Rockham, in the presence of the relatives of the couple.  Miss Dorothea Stapp acted as bridesmaid and Mr. L. L. Sebring as best man.

The bride has been a school teacher in Hand county for several years.  That she is a charming and capable young lady is proven by her numerous friends in this vicinity.  The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Sebring of Parks, a young man who has made good.  To know Fred is to be his friend.  After finishing a course at the Agricultural College at Brookings, he started farming for himself.

The couple left on Wednesday for a week's visit in Sioux Falls at the home of the groom's uncle, A. M. Sebring, after which they will be home on the A. L. Noble place.

We know that we are expressing the wishes of their numerous friends when we say "May the best of everything be theirs."

 


The Evening Huronite
Huron, South Dakota
Evelyn Jorgensen and Sgt. Seeman are Wed

 

At a ceremony performed at the post chapel at Camp Hood, Texas, the marriage of Miss Evelyn Jorgensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Jorgensen of Huron, and Master Sergeant Milford J. Seeman was solemnized at 6:30 o'clock on Saturday evening, May 8.

The double ring ceremony was read by Chaplain Moll and the attendants were Staff Sergeant and Mrs. E. P. Turnbull, former residents of Mitchell.  Sgt. Turnbull enlisted with the original 259 ordnance when Sgt. Seeman did and they were together at Camp Perry, Ohio, before being transferred to Camp Hood.

For her wedding the bride wore a pink linen suit, brown accessories and both she and Mrs. Turnbull, who wore a brown knit dress with brown accessories, had corsages of Talisman roses.  Sgts. Seeman and Turnbull wore their summer military uniforms.

Also present at the wedding were several of Sgt. Seeman's friends from the camp.  Following the ceremony the wedding party went to Austin, Texas, for a late dinner.

Mrs. Seeman was expected to return Sunday from Camp Hood to resume her work in the advertising department of The Evening Huronite.  Prior to entering the service the early part of September in 1942, Sgt. Seeman was also in the advertising department of that paper.  His address now is Hq. and Hq. Det., 13th Ord. Bn., Camp Hood, Texas.

 

 


 

Sprenger - Evers

 

     The social event of the season was the marriage of Mr. John Sprenger to Miss Minnie Evers, which occurred at St. Liborius Church Tuesday morning June 26th, 1906, at 10:00 o'clock, Rev. Father Reilly, officiating.

     Miss Mary Evers, sister of the bride acted as bridesmaid and Mr. Casper Hardes as best man.

     It was one of the largest and most enjoyable occasions that has taken place in this section for some time.  After the ceremony was solmnized a big dinner was served and all partook of the feast.  In the evening a bowery dance was held at which about 250 people were present and joined in merriment.

     The fair bride is one of the highly respected and talented young ladies in the community, having grown to womanhood here, she is known and highly esteemed by everyone.  The groom is a prosperous farmer of exemplary habits and honorable character.

     They will reside on Mr. Sprenger's farm south-west of town.  The Argus joins the community in congratulating the happy couple.

 

 


 

Staufer--Witte Wedding Tuesday

     The wedding of Miss Hilda Witte, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. Witte, and Edward Staufer, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Staufer, all of Orient, was solemnized in St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Tuesday morning at 7 a.m.  The ceremony was performed by the Rev. John A. Krebs, who also celebrated the nuptial mass.  The bride was attended by Elisabeth Staufer.  Harry Witte acted as best man.  A wedding breakfast was served at the home of the bride, after which, Mr. and Mrs. Staufer left for an extended wedding trip to the Black Hills.  Upon their return they will reside on a farm south of Orient.

Former Miller Young Lady Married at Huron

 

At a nuptial mass at eight o'clock Monday morning in St. Martin's Catholic church the marriage of Miss Ellen Bucher and Russell D. Stevens, both of Huron, was solemnized by the Rev. Father Gorman.  Attendants at the wedding were Miss Hildgarde Kluthe of Huron and Alfred Bucher, brother of the bride, Miller.  Miss Mary Smith played the wedding march and also played soft organ music during the ceremony.

The bride's wedding dress was of sea aqua alpaca of street length style and with it she wore turf and tan accessories and a corsage of Talisman roses, asters, Peruvian lilies and lilies of the valley.  Miss Kluthe's dress was of a dusty pink with toast colored accessories and a shoulder corsage of sweetheart roses and carnation fleurettes.  The bridegroom and his attendant wore dark suits and white carnation boutonnieres.

Mrs. Minnie Johnson gave the bridal breakfast at her home, 730 Idaho Avenue Southeast, which was attended by fifteen guests.  Garden flowers and a wedding cake formed the decorations on the breakfast table.

Mr. and Mrs. Stevens left on a wedding trip to the Black Hills and Yellowstone National Park.  For traveling Mrs. Stevens wore a two piece sport suit in gaberdine of a powder blue color.  Upon their return in two weeks they will make their home in Huron.
 

The bride is a graduate of Miller High School with the class of 1933 and has since made her home in Huron.  The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Stevens of Huron and is a graduate of Huron High School and also of the accounting department of the Mankato College of Business, Mankato, Minn.  He is employed here as a livestock buyer for Armour and Company.

Out-of-town guests at the wedding were Mrs. Herman Martinmaas and Walter of Orient; Paul Burke of Miller and Edward and Alice Bucher of Miller.

 

 


 

Sweeney-Donlin Marriage Today

The marriage of Miss Clare Donlin and Thomas G. Sweeney took place at 7 o'clock Thursday morning, at St. Ann's Catholic church.  The ceremony was performed by Father C. J. Schilling.

Miss Marion Burke played the wedding march as the bridal party entered the church.  The bride, attended by her sister, Miss Betty Donlin, had selected for her wedding, a dress of white lace over orchid taffeta.  With this, she wore a white hat, and a corsage of talisman roses and white and lavender sweetpeas.  The bridesmaid wore flowered chiffon, and a yellow hat.

Richard Ellis attended the groom as best man.  

After the ceremony, a breakfast was served at the Green Lantern Cafe, and Mr. and Mrs. Sweeney left on a wedding trip to Minnesota.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Donlin of this city.  She is a graduate of the Miller high school, and is owner of a beauty shop here.

The groom is the son of Mrs. Rose Sweeney, and has a position with Greeves and Rudd.

Their friends extend congratulations and good wishes.

 


Sweetland-Beebe
Marriage Solemnized

 

Miss Elizabeth Beebe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Beebe of Weaver, Ia., and Lt. Wm. Sweetland, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Sweetland of Orient were united in marriage at 9 o'clock, Saturday morning, October 2nd in St. Joseph Catholic church of Orient.  The Rev. Fr. Krebs celebrated the nuptial high mass.  The church choir sang.

While the vows were being exchanged the Misses Vivian and Patricia Sweetland softly sang "Mary Unto Thee I Call."  At the offertory Miss Ann Krebs sang "Ave Verum."

The bride was given in marriage by her father and met the bridegroom and attendant at the foot of the altar to the strains of Lohengrin's wedding march, played by the organist, Miss Krebs.

The high altar was banked with large baskets of pink glads and white asters with tall ivory candles formed two sides of altar with baby breath and butter cups.

The bride wore a gown of ivory duchess satin, princess style with long train, fitted long sleeves and sweet heart neck line.  Her veil was finger tip length, held in place by a tiara of orange blossoms.  Her only jewelry was a string of pearls.  She carried a shower bouquet of white roses, also a pearl rosary.

Her attendant was her only sister, Margaret, who wore a gown of aqua chiffon with headdress of aqua veiling, held in place by flowers of the same color and carried a bouquet of roses.

Berta Sweetland acting as flower girl, wore a knee length dress of white organdy and carried a bouquet of red rosebuds and white flowers tied with aqua ribbon.

The bridegroom wore the regulation officers uniform.  His best man, Henry Aesoph, wore a suit of brown and a boutonnaire of white carnation.

Out of town guests attending the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Beebe and daughter, Margaret Weaver, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. T. P. Anglin and daughter, Loyola of Polo; Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Anglin of Faulkton, Miss Vivian Sweetland of Brookings and Miss Marge Sweetland of Faulkton.

Before her marriage Miss Beebe held a civil service position in Washington, D.C., at which place she and Lt. Sweetland met on his entrance at Ft. Belvoir, Va., over two years ago.

Lt. Sweetland is to report for duty Saturday morning at Westoverfield, Mass., where he is a member of the air borne engineers corps.

 


 


 

Thompson-Anglin



     On Monday, August 7th, at Sioux Falls, in the Bishop's Parsonage occurred the marriage of Mr. Oscar Thompson, of Salt Lake City, to Miss Elizabeth Anglin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Anglin, of Orient, Father Brady officiating.  The bride has been, for some time, in the millinery business at Centerville, this state, and the groom is a cement contractor at the same place.

 


 

Weideman-Schock
Marriage Announced

 

The marriage of Miss Ida Schock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Schock of Klum, N.D., and Benjamin J. Weideman of the U. S. navy, took place at Fredonia, N.D., on January 24.  Rev. Bunnge read the marriage service.  Following the ceremony, a wedding supper was served at the home of the bride's parents.

The bride and groom spent two weeks with relatives in North Dakota, and the remainder of the groom's leave in Orient and Miller.

The bride is a graduate of the Miller high school and recently completed a course in beauty culture.  The groom arrived in the states January 5, after serving overseas for two years.  He reported at San Francisco February 12 for reassignment.

Wernsmann - Maloney

At the St. Liborious Church at Polo, Tuesday, May 5th occured the marriage of Miss Mary Maloney and Mr. Philip Wernsman, Rev. Fr. Burkel officiating.

Miss Alma Wernsmann, a sister of the groom, acted as bride's maid and Mr. Barney Wernsmann, a brother of the groom, acted as best man.  The ceremony was performed before a large number of friends.

The bride and groom are well known young people of Ontario township who have lived in that community for several years and are held in high esteem by their many friends.  The ARGUS extends congratulations to the young couple.

 


 

Marriage at Zell Tuesday Morning

 

John M. Wieseler, of Polo, and Miss Rose Pfiester, of Zell, were married at St. Mary's Catholic Church at Zell, Wednesday, September 29th.

The bride is the daughter of Mrs. S. Pfiester, of Zell, and is one of Hand county's most popular teachers.  The groom is one of the prosperous farmers of north Hand county and has but recently completed the erection of a modern new farm home on his place south east of Orient, where the happy couple will make their home.

The Argus wishes to join with their many friends in this vicinity in extending congratulations and best wishes.
