Cody School District No. 7

     The first school in what is now Cody School District No.7 was held in Mrs. Clara Burns' homestead shack on the SE 1/4 of Sec. 31-42-27. The term started in 1912 with Miss Estelle Wise as teacher. The school children attending were Sophia Smith; her cousin, John Beck; Gordon Fulton; two of Mat Richards' boys; and the Greenwald children. At that time the school was part of White River District No.2
     In 1913 school was held in an addition built on Cody Sinning's first homestead shack on SE 1/4 of Sec. 30-42-27 with Mary Norton as teacher. In 1914 Noah Gerig of Happy Hollow taught the school. When Cody Sinning built his present house, school was held in part of that for one year with Ernest Hamilton as teacher. This was in 1915.
     In the fall of 1916, the Cody School house was built on NE 1/4 of Sec. 31-42-27 on Frank Barcal's place. The term started late with Mrs.Will Egleston as teacher. In 1926 the schoolhouse was moved to the NE 1/4 of Sec. 29-42-27, its present location.
     The Paleck School was built in 1915 on NE 1/4, of Sec. 6-42-27, where it is now. The carpenters were Will and Fred Egleston and Gust Gunner.
     In 1917 a school was started in a homestead shack in the Jans and Week neighborhood on Sec. 23-42-27. This was called the Week School.
     In 1918 the Charles Hamilton house was purchased and moved to Sec. 22-42-27. In 1926 it was moved to NE 1/4 of Sec. 20-43-27 and was called the Strait School. Jessie Reinoehl was the first teacher at the new location. Other teachers who followed were: Florence Kenzy, Emma Allard, Vera Hullinger, Hazel Fitch, Pauline Collier, Charles Pierce, Mrs. Clara Whitby, Ellen Mooney, Jane Hope Lyman, Sara Hanten, and Mildred Koskan. In 1959 it was moved to SE 1/4 of Sec. 28-43-27.
     In 1917 Cody School District No.7 was organized and the first board members were: Charles Ray, Reinhardt Week., Sr., and Harry Atwood. Other school board officers during the following years were: Charles Kimball, E. H. Hamilton, Clarence Wilson, Roy Waggoner, Mrs. Cody Sinning, Louie Homsen, William Wolf, Mrs. Roy Waggoner, Lloyd Montague, Gladys Wells, Ralph Ryno, Bill Sumners, Wesley Egleston, Vernon Brown, Mrs. Paul Reutter, Ralph Sanders and Albert Jans. The present board consists of Mrs. Albert Jans, Mrs. Ralph Ryno, and Clarence Miller.
     In the early twenties the schools were remodeled, and rooms were added for the teachers' living quarters.
     Some of the more recent teachers were: Dorothy Wang, Eva Lambert, Lavern Burnham, Mildred Moran, Lois Hermann, Viola Endes, Laura Mikle, Laura Heyden. The present teachers are: August Johnson, Strait School; Florence Sheely, Paleck School; and Violet Chapin, Cody School.

Standing in the back  row from the left are Ralph Simpkins, Fred Mueller, Sophia Smith, Christine Gunner and Winifred Egleston. In the middle row are Mrs. Frank Fitch, teacher; Paul Mueller, Tom Bailey, Pat Bailey and Milton Mueller. Students in the third row are Frank Barcal, Jr., Eldred Atwood, Orville Poor, Woodrow Atwood, Willie Sykora, Wesley Egleston, Anna Barcal, Delbert Mueller, and Vyvenne Tisdell. Out in front is Rudolph Sykora.
