Marie Nash, 95 of Murdo Died on Saturday, February 7 at St. Mary’s TCU in Pierre.
Services will be at 10:30 am Friday, February 13 at the Murdo United Methodist Church
with Visitation starting at 9:30 Burial will be at Murdo City Cemetery.

Marie M. Nash was born November 22, 1913, on a farm 8 miles northwest of Witten,
S.D., to John and Mary (Stoltenberg) McDonnell. She was the eldest of eight children.
She attended rural school then graduated from White River High School in 1932 as valedictorian.

She married Frank E. Nash on February 28, 1935, in Winner and has since lived in Murdo. They raised three sons: Russell, Donald and Keith.

Employment opportunities over the years included the White River Drug Store, Sanderson’s General Store, Jones County State Bank (19 years), Murdo Hospital, Clerk of Murdo Independent School Board (for 11 years), Okaton State Bank (8 years) and the Star Restaurant. A few retirement winters were spent in Arizona.

Marie was a member of Murdo United Methodist Church of Murdo, Women’s Society of Christian Service, Progressive Study Club, United Methodist Women and was a charter member of the Jones County Seniors for Service where she served as its president for 23 years (1981-2002 & 2008). In 1989, she was awarded with a Governor’s Volunteer of the Year Award and in 2007 she was nominated for the Spirit of Dakota Award.

She is survived by sons Russell E. Nash of Pierre and Donald F. Nash of Brookings; grandchildren Kelcy Nash of Murdo and Adam (Amanda) Nash of Mitchell; and great-granddaughter, Breanna Marie Nash of Mitchell; sisters Darlene Gorman of Seattle, Wash; and Edna Rice of Amityville, N.Y., plus many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, son Keith, daughter-in-law Arlene, brothers Roy, Leonard and Paul and sisters Arlene and Helen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Murdo United Methodist Church of Murdo.
 
 
Nash, Frank Eugene
May 14, 1908 - November 25, 1979

Funeral services held here for Frank E. Nash on Nov. 29

     Funeral services were held Thursday. November 29, 1979 in Murdo at the United Methodist Church for Frank Eugene Nash who passed away November 29, 1979. Rev. Bert Van Essen, officiated at the service. Mrs. Bernard Jaide, organist, accompanied the Ladies Choral Group, which sang at the funeral.
     Casket Bearers were: Jack Donahue, Marvin Palmer, Jeff Sanderson, Jerald Applebee, Bill Schell and Butch Fedderson. Mrs. Kurt Hall was in charge of register and memorials and Densel Cressy served as the usher.
     He was laid to rest in the Murdo Cemetery. The White River Odd Fellow Lodge conducted graveside services.
     Funeral arrangements were by Hofmeister Funeral Home of Murdo.

Frank Eugene Nash
     Frank Eugene Nash was born May 14, 1908 to Thomas R. and Esther (Bates) Nash on a homestead southeast of Murdo, and passed away in Tuscon, Arizona, where he was spending the winter, on November 25, 1979 after a vary short illness.
     He attended school and graduated with the class of 1929, the first four year football letterman of Murdo High School. His interest in all sporting events and school activities continued throughout his life.
     He was united in marriage to Marie McDonnell, Feb. 28, 1935. He worked as mail carrier, lumber yard employee, a plumber, as well as for the city, State and the R.E.A. For sixteen years he was the Murdo School custodian, retiring in June of 1977.
     He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Odd Fellows, and the Jones County Seniors for Service.
     Surviving are his wife, Marie; and sons, Russell of Pierre, Donald of Sisseton, and Keith of Presho; grandchildren, Kelcy and Adam of Murdo; sisters, Lorna Nichols of Draper, Nellie Lloyd of Tuscon, Ariz.; Gail Vargo of Abberville, Ala.; and a host of relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Isabelle Bineger.
