Location:
Section 10, Township 41N, Range 29W - South Unorganized Township
History:
1893 - 1940
The cemetery is fenced but it is deteriorating and is no longer used. Visits are made by family members but no apparent care is taken of the cemetery as a whole.
The cemetery was established in 1893, the land being donated by Old Woman Thunder.
During the early 1940's, Saint James cemetery #2 was established on the river bottom near the Saint James Episcopal Church. Attempts had been made as early as 1933 to get this done but the Indian people resisted burying their dead on the bottom rather than the customary high hilltop. But because the old Saint James Cemetery was so far away from the church, they decided to quit using the old cemetery.
