MINNIE LAMB
- At a local nursing home, Sun, December 6, 1959, Mrs. Minnie Lamb, age 76 years. Survived by 2 sons, Cecil Taylor of Murfreesboro, and Alf Taylor, of Rockvale, TN. one brother , Thomas Maxwell, of Nashville and one sister, Mrs. Rena McGhee, of Lebanon. Funeral Services 1:30 pm this Mon, Dec. 7th, 1959. at Woodfin (note: this word is not clear in the microfilm) Memorial Chapel, Rev. Gwyndol Love. Interment in Cowthon Cemetery at Rover, TN. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Woodfin Memorial Chapel in charge.
BEN S. LANDERS
, 92 retired miller of near Unionville, died Sunday (October 31, 1938) at 3;30 a.m., at the local hospital following an operation the previous week. Mr. Landers with stood the operation seemingly alright, and it was thought at first he would recover. He was a steward in the Mt. Pleasant Methodist church, near Wilhoite, and prominent in all church and community activities. He was a partner in the Morris - Landers Milling Company at Morris Mills, near Wilhoite for many years before his retirement several years ago when he moved to Unionville and resided with his daughter, Mrs. Tom Jeffress and Mr. Jeffress. The remains were carried to the home at Unionville were carried to the home at Unionville where funeral services were held Monday morning, conducted by his pastor, Rev. C.I. Kelly. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant church cemetery. Surviving besides his daughter are three sons, B.A. and John Landers, of Nashville, Scott Landers of San Francisco, Calif; one sister, Mrs. Letitia Harrison, 86 of Normandy; one brother Solon Landers, 90, of Longview, several grand children and great grand children. Pall bearers were, A. L. Landers, W. A. Landers, George Harrison of Shelbyville; J. L. Morris, J. S. Morris, Chapel Hill, and W. A. Morris of Murfreesboro.
HATTIE (MALLARD) LANDERS
, 63 died Saturday at 2:30 at her home in Normandy following a lingering illness. She was a beloved member of the Whiteside church where her membership had been since early girlhood. Loyal and faithful to her family and friends, her life had been one of usefulness until declining health prevented active participation in community interests. Surviving are her husband, one son, Julian Landers of Normandy; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Long of Huntsville, Ala., and Mrs. R. L. Stewart of Alexander, LA; two brothers, Fred and Marvin Mallard.. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Thompson Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Charlie Wilson of Wartrace, assisted by Rev. Fred Woodard. Interment was in Burns cemetery.
SOLON L. LANDERS
, 90 retired business man and farmer died suddenly Monday morning at 5:30 o'clock at his home near Longview. Mr. Landers had been in declining health for some time but his death was unexpected. He was well and favorable known throughout this section. Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Herbert Hastings and Mrs. Carl Sutton of Nashville, Mrs. William Smotherman of Murfreesboro, Mrs. Joe Robert Turner of Shelbyville; three sons, Lee Landers of Eldorado, Ill; W. A Landers of Shelbyville and Sam Landers who resided with hi one sister, Mrs. Tish Harrison of Normandy and several grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the home, Rev. C.I. Kelly of Unionville officiating. Burial was in Willow Mount cemetery.
RAY FRANKLIN LEMONS
, Funeral service for Ray Franklin Lemons, age 79 of Manchester will be conducted at 2:00pm, Wednesday, April 22 at the Manchester Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Danny Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Hurricane Grove Cemetery. Visitation with the Lemons family will be from 1:00pm until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Lemons passed away Sunday morning in Winchester, Tennessee.
Mr. Lemons was born in Bedford County, Tennessee the son of the late Burnie and Nellie Pitts Lemons. He was retired from the Vought Aircraft Wing factory and attended the Hurricane Grove Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lemons was preceded in death by a grandchild, Kevin Luneack. MILDRED (WILLIAMS) LOCKE
, age 89, of Bell Buckle, died Saturday, November 1, 2008, at her home after an extended illness.
Memorial service will be 2 PM Sunday, November 9, 2008, at Bell Buckle United Methodist Church. Reverend Beth Ezell and Reverend Buddy Royston will officiate.
A private burial will be held in Hazel Cemetery in Bell Buckle. The family will receive visitors at the church following the service.
She was born October 10, 1919, in Bell Buckle, to the late David Cleophas Williams and Daisy Jane Anthony Williams. She was founding president of the Tennessee Valley Quilter’s Association in 1980, which now has over 900 members. She taught the art of fine quilt making to over 1000 students during a fifteen years span. She held membership in the Bell Buckle United Methodist Church.
She was married to Ollie Edgar Locke for over fifty years before his death. She is survived by a son, Edgar David Locke, and his wife, Carolyn, of Shelbyville; a daughter, Peggy Lock Baldwin, and her husband Robert, of Bell Buckle and Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Rachel Bell Hancock and Robert Scott Saunders; three great grandchildren, Ryan Hancock, Riley Hancock, and Malorie Saunders; a brother, Fred Williams, and his wife Libby, of Murfreesboro; a sister, Norma Williams Jernigan, of Manchester.
Memorials may be made to Bell Buckle United Methodist Church. Feldhaus Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
JOHN LOKEY
- Funeral services were held at the Hoover funeral parlor last Friday afternoon for Mr. John Lokey. Mr. Lokey was a former resident of our town and is remembered as a splendid respected citizen. For the past few years he has made his home in Winterhaven, Fla., with his daughter, Mrs. Don Ellis and Mr. Ellis. His surviors are Mrs. Ellis and several grandchildren of Winterhaven, and several nieces and nephews of this town and county. The remains were accompanied here by Mr. Robert Ellis, a grandson. Funeral services were conducted by Dr. W.C. Creasman, pastor of the Baptist church. Interment was in the Holland graveyard.
