Homegrown Potatoes
Exhibited By T. F. Elrod

Tom F. Elrod was displaying some fine homegrown Irish potatoes today, the first that have been heard of locally this season. Mr. Elrod brought The Banner a small crate of the white potatoes, which averaged measuring about 3 inches long and 5 inches around. Mr. Elrod prides himself on being the earliest 'tater grower in his neck of the woods, being the first last year to market Irish cobblers.

The Tax Man Cometh

Keep calm if you see a couple of fellows carrying tape measures and walking up to your house. They could save you money when county tax-paying time rolls around.

Especially if the fellows are employees of Howze and Associates Inc., a Florida firm under state contract to convert the Bradley County Tax Assessor's office operations from a manual to computer-based system as a pilot program in the state.

These fellows carrying tapes probably will just be looking over your property to verify facts about your property on file in the tax assessor's office.

For instance, if tax records through somebody's misunderstanding happen to list your basement as being finished instead of the unfinished basement you have, you may be paying more taxes than necessary....

HOSPITAL TO JUNK "SLOWPOKE"

Bradley Memorial Hospital trustees Monday night voted to replace "Old Slowpoke".

"Old Slowpoke" is the nickname by which the hospital employees refer (and not always nicely) to the 1951 model elevator just off the hospital lobby, it was explained by William Torrence, hospital administrator.

Hospital board members voted to replace the elevator with a modern, automatic elevator capable of accommodating hospital beds, which the present one will not do.

The replacement includes related mechanical and electrical work, Torrence said.
