Number Four School
The only school in Bradley County that had a number for a name. The first record that can be found of the schools history is in a "Blue Back Speller" which belonged to the first teacher, Mr. M. J. S. (Marcus) Nichol. The following words are from the book: Abt. October 6, 1886. Classes began in the fall of 1886 and continued for 92 days. Since this date many teachers were in and out. Beginning with some of the older ones as following: Superintendents in the years of Number Four School: W. L. Lawson -1897 Sam Adcock - 1916 E. J. Frazier - 1922 W. B. Cartwright -July, 1948 Sim Beaty Grace Caroll Rosco Varnell ON June 22, 1985 a reunion was held at the Union Baptist Church recreation center for the students of Number Four School. The reunion was organized by Mildred Fowler Blair with the help of the committee members. Committee members: Joyce Cameron Walls Deceased members were represented by family members. Floyd Humberd, by son Larry. The oldest and youngest student was recognized. Maggie Ross McClure - 85 years old. Gaynelle and Gladys Humberd were presented with a plaque form the students which read:
