A post office was established at Charleston on June 17, 1840.

Cleveland post office was erected 1911, cost was $50,000. Before that time, each postmaster rented a building.

In 1935 an addition was erected which doubled the capacity of the work room. The post office advanced form Second to First Class in 1925.
