Albert Gibson was the son of William and Rebecca Gibson and husband to Mary Elizabeth Demoss. There were many news stories about this murder, a few did mistake Albert for Robert somehow, but it is Albert. He was shot one day prior to his expected testimony against his brother-in-law Thomas J. Drury (husband of his sister Nancy Gibson) for passing counterfeit money. Thomas and Nancy Drury's son Robert Drury was released from Federal Prison at Nashville around January 1, 1877 for passing counterfeit money He went home to Huntingdon and found out his father had been arrested and that his uncle assisted in the arrest. Robert Drury then made his way to Mrs. Hunt's Memphis Boarding House, shot and killed his uncle to prevent his testimony against his father and fled. Robert Drury was arrested several days later in Paducah, Kentucky. He was tried for first degree murder three times, two hung juries and the third acquitted him. U. S. Deputy Marshal Albert Gibson is buried at the Clark Cemetery in Huntingdon. He left behind a widow and 7 children. Robert Drury the murderer, and his parents moved to Tipton County, Tennessee, changed their last name to Drewry and became prominent citizens of the county. Information from Cary Rutherford
