MRS ROBERT NELL TATE - Funeral services for Mrs. Robert Nell Tate, 98, will be held at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church in Huntingdon, TN with the Rev. Dossie Wheatley and Rev. Jim Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Huntingdon. Mrs. Tate died on Saturday, September 2, 2006 at the Regional Hospital of Jackson. Arrington Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Tate was born in Yuma, TN on March 2, 1908 the daughter of the late Robert L. and Nancy Seagraves Belew. In 1928 she was married to William Deward Tate who preceded her in death in 1976. Mrs. Tate along with her late husband was affiliated with the Priest Drug Store for over fifty years. She was known for being a weekly visitor at area nursing homes and a faithful volunteer at the Huntingdon hospital. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star # 180, the WomenÍs Club, the Gavel Club, a life-time member of the WMU and a very active member of the First United Methodist Church, where she attended the Lula Peeler Sunday School Class and served as its treasurer for many years. Mrs. Tate was also known for the many costumes she stitched for local dance recitals as her daughters were growing up. She is survived by her daughters, Sarah E. Smith and husband Spurgeon and Nancy L. Rahm all of Jackson; seven grandchildren, David Goforth and wife Sarianne, Michael Goforth and wife Ginger, William Goforth and wife Tammy, Gary Hyatt and wife Becky, Deward Rahm, Charles Rahm and wife Laura and Robert Rahm and wife Leslie and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother John W. Belew and two sisters, Mitchell Frances Belew and Lounita Corlew.

MELBA JEAN (FRONABARGER) TAYLOR , age 78, of Clarksburg died Sunday Sept. 27, 2009 at her home. She was born October 22, 1930 to the late Mike and Jewe Fronabarger. She was a member of the Roans Creek Church of Christ. She was preceded by her husband, Adron Taylor, a sister Wilma Webb, a brother James (Ford) Fronabarger, a son-in-law Charles Fuller and a grandson Mike FUller. SHe is survived by three daughters, Donna Segraves and Brenda (Alton) Fuller of Clarksburg and Judy (Joe) Alexander of Lexington, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Burial in Roans Creek Cemetery.

NETTIE (RHODES) TAYLOR - Services for Nettie Rhodes Taylor, 85, will be at 2 p.m. today at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church near Lavinia. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Taylor died Wednesday of heart failure at Briarwood Manor in Lexington. She was married to Chester Taylor. She had three children, Hettie Taylor Parham of Leach, Randall Roy Taylor of McLemoresville and Paul David Taylor of Chesterfield. She had six brothers, Grover & William Rhodes, both of Cedar Grove, Alton, John, adn Orville Rhodes, all of Lexington, and Joseph Rhodes of McKenzie, and two sisters, Nellie Parker of Wildersville and Lessie Williams of Eads.

ROWENA (SAND) TAYLOR , 82, of Huntingdon, TN, died Sunday, October 8, 2006 at her home. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Dilday Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Carroll Memorial Gardens. Brother Larry DePriest will officiate the services. Mrs. Taylor was born December 14, 1923, in Maine, to the late Rufus and Evelyn Ward Sand. She was a retired employee of the Shoe Factor in Maine. She was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her husband, David Taylor, a son Rodney Dusost, two daughters, Judy Goodmen and Wanda Durost, four brothers, six sisters, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

WAYNE JUNIOR TAYLOR - Services were May 3, 2010 in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Interment followed in Davis Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Taylor, age 70, of Huntingdon, died Friday April 30, 2010 at the Life Care Center in Bruceton. Mr. Taylor was born Sept. 3, 1939 in MO to the late J.B. Taylor and Lennie (Bradfield) Taylor. He was a retired painter. He was also preceded by his wife Mary and one brother, Johnny. He is survived by one daughter, Teresa Robbins of Camden; four sons, David Taylor of Lexington, Don of Valrico FL, Wayne Taylor of Benton AR, Jamie Taylor of OK several stepchildren; one sister, Polly Meggs of Huntingdon and one brother Jimmy Ray Taylor of Waterloo IL and ten grandchildren.

DELLA (GATELY) THOMAS , age 80, died Aug. 3, 1975 at St. Joseph Hospital, Memphis TN. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Her parents were the late Wix Gateley and Mandy Gatlin Gateley. Mrs. Thomas is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lucille Rhodes of Cedar Grove, Mrs. Louise Newson, of Memphis, and Mrs. Coleen Gnich. of Phoenix Arizona, two brothers, Joe and Jesse Gateley both of Huntingdon, two sisters, Mrs. Lorene Barger of Fairview, TN., and Mrs. Vennie McAlexanger of Jackson; 6 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Services were at Hickory Flat Methodist Church Tuesday Aug. 5, 1975 at 2 p.m. Burial was at Hickory flat Cemetery. Dilday Funeral Home in charge.

HAZEl (HOLMES) THOMAS - Services for Hazel Thomas, 93, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from the Hickory Flat Methodist Church, with Rev. Gene Canestrari officiating. Burial will follow in the Hickory Flat Methodist Church Cemetery. George A. Smith and Sons is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Thomas died Friday morning (27 Nov 1998) in Cleveland, TN. As a former native of Jackson and Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Barney and Florence Holmes. Mrs. Thomas was a retired seamstress for the Holland's Department Store. She is survived by her sister, Thelma Allison; and nephew, Maurice Ray Smith both of Cleveland, TN.

T.W. THOMAS - The community was saddened by the death of Dr. T.W. Thomas which occured Thursday of last week. He suffered a cerebral hemorhage about 6 a.m. and was rushed to Jackson Madison County Hospital where he passed away about 7:30 p.m. that night. Dr. Thoams, 68, was born and reared in Center, Ala. the son of the late Tuck and Sue Freeman Thomas. He was a member of the Methodist Church and received his degreein medicine from the old Memphis State College. He practiced in Brownsville, a few months before locating in Cedar Grove in April of 1913, where he practiced until death making his last sick call about 9 p.m. Wed. night. Dr. Thomas alwaus entered his sick room with a smile and friendly chickle of "What's wrong now, age, take your medicine and you'll soon be alright." He will be missed in the community as well as in the home. Words cannot express the deep sorrow of the people. The beautiful flowers were a tribute to his many kind deeds and love that was felt by the entire community. Funeral services were held at Hickory Flats Methodist Church at 4 p.m. Saturday. Rev. Roy D. Hill, Pastor and Rev. Robert Mayo, former pastor, officiating. Burial in church cemetery. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Hazel Holmes Thomas; three daughters, by a former marriage, Mrs. Lucille Roe, and Mrs. Louise Newsom of Cedar Grove and Mrs. Coleen Wolner of Arizona and five grandchildren. Active pallbearers were Leon Wildridge, Curtis McAlexander, Porter and K.C. Jones, Althon and Arden Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Lewis Liles, George Floyd, and M.P. Jones, W.B. Arnold, A.T. Patton, Melton Smith, and Otis Burrough.

WILLIAM JOSEPH THOMAS , 63, of Huntingdon, TN, died Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at the Jackson Madison General Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, September 23, 2006 at 10:00 AM at the Mixie Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Thomas was born May 24, 1943, in Carroll County, Tennessee, to the late Hubert Hensley and Opal Thomas. He was an employee of Barsto Construction and a member of the Huntingdon Elks Lodge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Thomas, who passed away in 2003, and a son, Michael Steven Thomas. He is survived by a daughter, Amy Williams, of Huntingdon, TN, a sister, Martha Craig, of McKenzie, TN. He also leaves a granddaughter, Jordan Hinson. Pallbearers who served were Randy Luther, Ryan Brandon, David Craft, Tommy Decanter, Billy Phifer and Damon Thompson.

EDNA VERNELL THOMASON - Services for Mrs. Edna Butler Thomason, formerly of Carroll County were held Friday, October 5, 1990 in Memphis, Tennessee. Mrs. Thomason was born near Buena Vista, Tennessee and was devoted to her family, church and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Thomason. Survivors include two sisters: Lucille Fondren of Memphis, Tennessee. and Berta Abbott of Franklin, Tennessee, five nieces and four nephews. She will be sadly missed by her family.

BILLY NELSON THOMPSON - Funeral services for Mr. Billy Nelson Thompson, 50, will be help at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2004 in the chapel of Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Palestine Cemetery in Carroll County. Mr. Thompson died Monday, April 12, 2004 at Regional Hospital of Jackson. He was born in Madison County, son of Henley Vermon and Martha Lorene Stegall Thompson and was educated in the county schools. Mr. Thompson was a musician and a sound and light technician. He wa a member of BPOE Lodge #192 (Elks) and Union Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by his parents, Henley Vermon Thompson of Beech Bluff and Martha Lorene Stegal Weir of Jackson; a sister, Donna and husband Lynn Bell of Beech Bluff; a brother, Gaylon and wife Wando Thompson of Beech Bluff; and six nieces and nephews. Pallbearers to serve are Jason Edwards, Frank Dodd, Russ Kirkland, Mike Williams, Bill Ashley and Michael Wilkins. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

EMMA THOMPSON , age 65 years 3 months, 23 days, widow of JAMES THOMPSON, died at the home of her son, GUY THOMPSON, in the 23rd district Jan. 11. The interment was at MEBANE cemetery, REV. R. H. GALEY conducting the service. She in early life joined the C. P. Church and lived a consistent Christian life. She was married to JAMES M. THOMPSON Dec. 28, 1882 who died Jan. 27, 1918. To this union were four children, three surviving; GUY THOMPSON, MISS EURA THOMPSON, and MRS. OLLIE PERRY. JOHN BRITT, half brother, and MRS. ELI CHANDLER, half sister, survive her. Four grandchildren: MURRAY, BELAH, PERRY and WILLIAM.

IRENE (WOODARD) THORNE , 91, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at the Henry County Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, June 21 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Philip Halter officiating. Interment followed in the Carroll Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Thorne was born September 26, 1909 to the late Eddie and Lillie McCormick Woodard, in Huntingdon. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Thorne; one son, Virgil Fann; a sister, Lucille Kelly and a brother, Clarence Woodard. CHARLES THROGMORTON - Services for Mr. Throgmorton, age 63, were Saturday, July 17, 2010 in the chapel fo Pafford Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Burroughs and Bro. Phillip Halters officiating. Burial followed in Clarksburg Cemetery. Mr. Throgmorton passed away early Thursday with his family by his side. He was born July 1, 1947 in Paris TN to the late Hardy and Alice Rushing Throgmorton. He worked in heavy crane maintenance at Norandal Inc. USA. He was preceded by his daughter Stacy Amber Throgmorton on July 20, 2002 and also by one brother, Jesse Throgmorton and one sister, Mary Throgmorton. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Brenda Throgmorton of Clarksburg; his son, Tracy Throgmorton (Angela) of Clarksburg; one brother, Billy of Portland, three sisters Helen Harris, Dorothy Dennis and Genevia Hopkins and two grandchildren, Brittany and Amber.

MARTIN BLAIN TINES , 86, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital. Memorial funeral services were conducted on Thursday, July 5 at the Obion Chapel Cemetery with Brother Bill Goodpasture officiating. Mr. Tines was born February 28, 1915 in Carroll County to the late Tom and Beulah Agnew Tines. He was a retired farmer and bus driver. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gracie Roark Tines; one son, Guy Joel Tines; two brothers, Johnny Tines and Jessie Lee Tines and a sister, Irene Sellers. He is survived by one daughter, Shelby Broyles of Jackson; three sons, Travis Tines of Memphis, Billy Tines of Huntingdon and David Tines of Jackson; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Burial will follow at Hopewell Cemetery in Carroll County. Mr. Travis, who was Baptist in belief and employed at Owens-Corning, died Sunday, September 30, 2007 at Baptist Hospital in Huntingdon. Surviving relatives include his mother, Judy Garrard of Medina, TN; sister, Vickie Goodwin and husband, Mitch of Medina, TN; niece, Amanda Parker of Medina, TN; nephew, Jon Michael Goodwin of Medina, TN and his father, Charles Travis and wife, Pat of Milan, TN.

EFFIE MARIE TRAVIS - Graveside services for Effie Marie Travis, 75, were at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 2, 2001 at Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery with Bro. Dennis Beal officiating. Brummitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Travis, formerly of McKenzie and a retired factory worker for Brown Shoe Company in McKenzie, died Friday, June 29, 2001 at NHC Healthcare in Lewisburg. She was born December 30, 1925 in Wordell, Missouri to the late Willie French Smith and Porter Smith. She was the widow of Gerald Ray Travis. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Jo Hendrix of Troy; three sons, Harold R. Travis of Springfield, Dennis C. Travis of Erlanger, Kentucky and Gary Travis of Latonia, Kentucky; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. A daughter, Geraldine Katzenberger also preceded her in death.

ELVYN LEE TURNER , 88, of Huntingdon, Tennessee, died Friday October 23, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were conducted at 10:30AM Tuesday October 27, 2009, at the Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery. Mr. Turner was born September 5,1921, to the late Persua and Essie Crutchfield Turner. He was preceded in death by his first wife Marian Turner who died in 1998, his second wife Emma Johnston Turner who died in 2006. He was a factory foreman and leather good salesman, a World War II veteran where he served as a tail gunner on a bomber in the European Theater, avid fisherman, Atlanta Braves fan and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He is survived by two daughters Carole Turner, of Tucson, Arizona and Ruth Sabella, of Charlotte, North Carolina, two step-sons James Johnston, of Tuscumbia, Alabama and Van Johnston, of Elkmont, Alabama, one sister Virginia Harder, of Huntingdon, Tennessee, two grandchildren, Jill Melton and Nick Sabella, one great-grand daughter Kali and many step grandchildren and step- great grandchildren.

JAMES EDWIN TURNER , 82, of Huntingdon, Tennessee, died Monday, October 8, 2007 at the Huntingdon Health & Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, October 11, 2007 at 1:00 P. M. in the chapel of Dilday Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Brother Lynn Stapleton will officiate the services. Mr. Turner was born February 3, 1925, in Carroll County, Tennessee, to the late, James Tommie and Essie M. Joyner Turner. He was a retired employee of the Chrysler Corp. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Odelle McDowell Turner and a brother, William (Red) Turner. He is survived by a daughter, Brenda Kemp of Dickson, Tennessee; a sister, Dorothy Wilson of Oxford, Michigan and a brother Harold Turner of Hendersonville, Nevada.

OTIS TURNER , of the 23rd district was instantly killed and his father, OSCAR TURNER, was very seriously injured at a grade crossing just beyond Rosser Monday morning when passenger train No. 5 struck the Ford touring car in which they were riding… Otis was 22 years old and an exemplary young man. He was buried at Prospect church cemetery at Hollow Rock Tuesday. A wife survives him.
