REBECCA SUSAN (NEWBILL) YANCEY - Services for Mrs. Rebecca Susan Newbill Yancey, Trezevant's oldest citizen, were held Friday afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Trezevant. The Rev. Leroy Grissom, pastor, and the Rev. Herbert Scoby of the Oaklawn Baptist Church in Memphis officiated, and burial was in the Trezevant Cemetery under the direction of the Brummitt Funeral Home. Mrs. Yancey who celebrated her 103rd birthday in May, died Thursday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. M. J. Newbill of Trezevant. She had suffered a stroke a few days earlier. Born in Halifax County, Virginia, shortly before the Civil War began, Mrs. Yancey was the daughter of the late James and Martha Lack Newbill. Her father was killed in 1863 defending the city of Richmond. She came to Carroll County when she was 9, and had lived here up until two years ago when she moved with another daughter, Mrs. H. W. Argo to Memphis. Mrs. Yancey was the widow of Charles Thomas Yancey, Trezevant farmer who died in 1902. She had been a member of the Trezevant Baptist Church for 90 years, having joined when she was 12 years old. Besides Mrs. Newbill of Trezevant and Mrs. Argo of Memphis, she leaves two other daughters, Mrs. W. B. Holmes of Martin and Mrs. Jesse Humphreys of Huntingdon; a son J. H. Yancey of Red Bay, Ala: 30 grandchildren, 71 great grandchildren and 17 great great grandchildren. Pallearers were six of Mrs. Yancey's grandsons: J. C. Yancey of Russellville, Ala: W. B. Holmes of Knoxville, Roy Yancey and Roy King Argo of Memphis: Morris E. Yancey of Charlotte, NC and Herbert Newbill of Trezevant.

JOE LOUIS YARBROUGHT - Funeral Services for Joe Louis Yarbrough will be held October 10, 2001 at Smyrna Missionary Baptist Church with Burial at Carroll Memorial Gardens in Mckenzie.
