Administrator's Notice for sale of slaves belonging to Lawson White, dec'd.
Pursuant to a Decree of the Circuit Court of Carter County, made at March Term 1840, we will offer for sale, for cash, on 12 months time, at the late residence of Lawson White, dec'd. One Negro Man and wife, between 30 and 40 years, and four children, between the ages of 2 and 13 years. (2 Boys and 2 Girls) also one other Negro Woman, about 35 years of age, all stout and likely, and slaves for life. There is not, perhaps in East Tennessee, a likelier or smarter family of Negroes, all of them being sound both in body and mind. The purchaser or purchasers of the beforementioned negroes, will be required to give Bond with approved security for the purchase money.
The sale will commence on Friday the 17th of April next, and continue from day to day if necessary, till all shall have been sold.

$25 Reward for return of Robert Dunlap, runaway.
Ran away from the Subscriber on the 12, inst., a Mulatto Boy, named Robert, who will probably call himself Robt. Dunlap, about 20 years of age, five feet 8 or 10 inches high, will weigh about 165 or 70- has blue eyes, straight sandy hair, and a skin as fair as a dark skined white man - dressed in very common style, with a blue cloth coat, somewhat worn.
He is unassuming - talks but little - retiring in his manners - but is somewhat fond of ardent spirits. He has probably aimed for a free state. The above reward will be given for his apprehension and delivery in any county Jail, upon notice being given to the subscriber at Elizabethton Tenn.

Tennessee Whig, (Jonesborough, TN) Thursday, April 30, 1840; Issue 50; col E - transcribed by, Amanda Jowers
Also $10 Reward for the apprehension of Jacob Parnell.
Will be given for the apprehension of Jacob Parnell, a bright Mulatto Boy, about 19 years of age, near 6 feet high, tolerably well built, somewhat talkative upon an acquaintance -- inclined to be moral, not imprudent; with rather a downlook, works well in a Forge - but can turn his hand to almost any thing. Jacob had on, when he left, which was about Christmas, a blue frock coat of Cloth, and had with him a blue dress coat, and some other clothing, not recollected.

$10 Reward for William Underhill, fugitive.
The above reward will be given for the apprehension of William Underhill, who broke Jail on the night of the fourth of this inst; he was put in Jail upon a charge of Arson, and a true bill of ??? was found against him at the last term of the Circuit Court of Carter County; he is a low and tolerable well made man, very broad face, quick spoken, and very polite. The above will be given for his apprehension and confinement in any Jail, so that I can get him again, or if he is delivered all reasonable expenses will be paid on receipt.
Elijah D. Hardin, Sheriff of Carter County. Elizabethton, May ?, 1840.
