John Shumate
Will of JOHN SHUMATE, deceased In the name of God, Amen. I, John Shumate,
Sr., of the county of Claiborne, and state of Tennessee, calling to mind the
frailty of my body, and knowing that it is appointed for man to die, and being
of sound mind and disposing memory, do make this my last will and testament.
1st, I commit my soul into the hands of God who gave it, and my body to a decent
Christian burial at the discretion of my friends.
2nd, my desire is that all my just debts be paid, together with my funeral
expenses.
3rd, I will and bequeath unto my beloved wife Nancy Shumate, all my lands and
personal property of every kind, during her natural life, or as long as she
remains my widow.
4th, I desire that at the death of my beloved wife Nancy Shumate, or her
intermarriage with any other m an, that my two sons, John Shumate, Jr. and Isaac
Shumate, have all my lands, and that they divide it equally between them in any
way they may think best.
5th, I will and bequeath unto my daughter Sally Shumate, now Sally Martin, two
hundred dollars out of my estate.
6th, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Eliza Shumate, now Eliza Billingsley,
all my household and kitchen furniture, together with my stock of every
description, and out property, at the death or intermarriage of my wife Nancy
Shumate. And if my wife Nancy Shumate, should marry again, it is my desire that
she shall have two hundred dollars out of my estate.
I hereby appoint William McBee, my Executor, to carry this my last will and
testament into effect, revoking all former wills, should any make their
appearance. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 25th
