Mary Martin
Report by L. A. GARRETT, Guardian of MARY MARTIN, Widow I received
from the Pension agent at Knoxville, the amount of pension money then due in
March last, which sum amounted to $300.00 Received in September further sum of
$300.00
I have had the widow taken care of by George M. Billingsley, where she was when
I was appointed. She is very old and infirm and needs a good deal of attention.
She has had two spells of sickness since I have been her guardian, and it was
necessary to employ physicians to attend to her, and she was sick a good wile
and needed care and attention. Clothes and other necessaries had to be
furnished. I have not permitted her means to be wasted, but have had her will
taken care of. I have had to go to Knoxville two trips on her business, which
took three days each trip. My expenses was about $2.60 each trip, and have spent
in postage about $.30 as near as I can now tell. My receipts are here produced
and the clerk can make the calculation and make me the necessary allowance. The
money has been kept in my hands except as has been paid out. I have not loaned
or used it. Respectfully submitted this 15th day of December 1853.
