Robert Ford Takes the Life of Horace Ford at His Home in Cocke County.
Shot and Mortally Wounded His Cousin
Newport, Tenn., June 19, 1916
Another killing occurred in Cocke county last Saturday morning, in the southern part of the county, in a section
called Grassy Fork, when Robert Ford shot
and killed his second cousin, Horace Ford.
It was another case of the alienation of a man's wife that brought about the tragedy.
It is said that young Horace Ford has been paying frequent visits to the home of his cousin, Robert, during the
latter's absence. It is said that Robert anticipated one of these visits on Saturday morning and left on a proposed
business trip to Hartford, He returned, however, while his wife was out about the premises, and hid himself in
the loft of the cabin where they lived. Horace soon appeared, carrying a shot gun which he kept in his possession
all the time during his visit. After spending some time in a room of the house, Horace and the woman stepped out
into the yard and instantly Robert came down from his hiding place. After a few words had passed between the two
men, Robert fired the fatal shot that ended the life of his kinsman, and the bullet from the 32 caliber revolver
passing through his head. It is said that Horace was in the attitude of firing his shot gun at Robert when the
latter shot him.
The preliminary hearing of Robert Ford will be had in Justice J. I. Green's court at Hartford Wednesday of this
week.

Jesse Reeve
Departed this life, on the 14th ult. at his residence in Cocke County JESSE REEVE in the 73d year of his age, leaving
a numerous circle of friends and relations, to lament thir deprivation of a good neighbor, a kind parent, an indulgent
husband, and a warm friend. Mr. Reeve was born in Prince William County Virginia, and emigrated to Tennessee in
1800;- for the last ten years he has been an upright and worchey member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and
died in hope of a sure and blessed immortality.
A history of the life of our esteemed friend Mr. Reeve, we donat not, would afford instruction and comfort to many,
had we the materials; leasure and space to publish a regular narrative. Of such a biography, from the length of
his standing, the general utility of his life, and the excellence of his, character, he was highly deserving.
Of his standing in the Church, the best testimony is, that the offices he sustained, & the deservidly high
compliments paid him by the Ministry, who, collectively and individually, have ever found his house a home and
partaken freely of the hospitalities of his kind dwelling. We speak from a personal knowledge on this subject.
