Wilburn Branson Townsend
Born at Sugartree TN, on Aug. 17, 1907; insurance broker and auto dealer; Scotch-Irish descent; married Emma Lou Long on November 22, 1930. Attended the public schools of Decatur County; University of TN 1929; a member of the Baptist Church; a Democrat.

Mr. Townsend is engaged in the general insurance and automobile (chevrolet) business at Parson, Tenn. He has been in this business since 9130. He is the father of one child; Nancy Ann, aged 4. He is Chairman of the County Board of Education of Decatur County and Pres. of the Young Democrats. He is a member of the election committee and also the Farm Bureau. Hunting is his hobby.

Wilburn Branson Townsend (1907 - )

HOUSE, 72nd and 82nd General Assemblies, 1941-43, 1961-63; representing Decatur and Benton counties; Democrat. Born at Sugar Tree, Decatur County; Aug. 17, 1907; son of Eli Mansfield and Cordelia Estelle (Harrison) Townsend. Attended elementary and high schools, Parsons, Decatur County, graduating from latter, 1928; Union University, Jackson, Madison County, 1929; University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Knox County, 1930. Married at Parsons, Nov. 23, 1930, to Emma Lou Long, daughter of James Connie and Ann (Austin) Long, of Parsons;children — Nancy Ann, Janell, and James Branson. Described self in 1957 as automobile dealer, insurance agent, and farmer;proprietor of Townsend Insurance Agency at Parsons for thirty-five years or more. Alternate delegate, 1952, to Democratic National Convention and delegate-at-large to national convention of 1960; chairman, board of education, 1956; co-manager in 7th congressional district for Edmund Orgill's candidacy for governor in Democratic primary of 1958. Member Baptist Church; Free and Accepted Masons? Order of the Mystic Shrine? Order of the Eastern Star; Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks;Farm Bureau; Tennessee Insurance Agents Ass'n; Tennessee Executive Club; Chamber of Commerce; Decatur County Livestock Ass'n.; a director in County Fair Ass'n.
