Postmistress, was born at Cowan of English ancestry. Single. Daughter of John R. and Mary E. Brown Barnes. Paternal grandparents, Peter and Nancy Jane Kitchen Barnes. Maternal grandparents, George W. and America Alder Brown. Finished public schools of Franklin Co., Tenn. College Prep Work, U.T., 1924. Member of C.P.; a Democrat; P.T.A. and National Association of Postmasters. Was appointed Postmistress at Cowan, July 3, 1935, by Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt, sponsored by the Hon. J. Ridly Mitchell. Taught in the public schools of Franklin Co. Her brother, I. R. Barnes, fought in the World War in France for several months, being stationed at Rose Hospital No. 24. He was honorably discharged from the army at Fort Oglethorpe in 1919.
