The following information, extracted from military service records, records Muster Roll data for whom I believe to be the Benjamin Winchester of 1850 Hardin County and 1860 Henderson County, TN. This info is for general use only, and the submitter does not allege any proof of prior residence. Benjamin F. Winchester, enlisted at Bethel, TN for 3 years in Capt. Kemp’s Company, 1st Regiment West Tennessee Cavalry.

His service record states that for the period 13 Nov thru 31 Dec 1862, he was “on detached service [as per] special order No. 72. This was dated 15 Dec 1862, and signed by Bethel (Copyist).

Service record for the period of Jan 1863, and dated 15 Dec 1862, states “Absent Detached service to Tennessee River [per] S.O. No 72

Service record for Jan & Feb, and for Mar & Apr 1863 records him as “Present”, and signed by O.T. Taylor, Copyist.

For the period of May & June 1863, it is stated “Winchester, Benjamin F deserted the Regt at Bolivar, Tenn May 3 - 63”. Signed by Fuller, Copyist.

In June 1863, Copyist B. Harrison notes “Absent without leave since 1 of June”

On July 1, 1863 at LaGrange, Tenn,Remarks: “Deserted Reg’t May 1st 1863” Copyist: Bethel

July 26, 1865, Pulaski, Tenn Last paid to: never Remarks: “Deserted May 1st 1863, Bolivar, Tenn”, Copyist: Lachman

Company Descriptive Book records enlistment of Benjamin F Winchester, of Company C, 6th Regiment Tennessee Cavalry, as of age 35, height 5’ 10”, complexion fair, eyes black, hair black. Recorded birthplace is Giles County, Tennessee, and that his occupation was that of Farmer.
