CALVIN L. BARKER , 74, of Morristown, died Sunday, March 7, 1999, at Morristown-Hamblen Hospital. Mr. Barker was retired from the United States Air Force and Roadway Express. He was a member of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church, Gray. Mr. Barker was preceded in death by his parents, Haskell and Julia Mayo Barker. Survivors include his wife, Rita Larkin Barker; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Tina Barker, Honea Path, S.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Danny Buckles, Elizabethton; eight grandchildren; a brother, Robert T. Barker, Piney Flats; and a sister, Ruth Long, Kingsport. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Westside Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

BARKER -- Funeral services for Calvin L. Barker, 74, of Morristown, who died Sunday, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Westside Chapel Funeral Home, Morristown, with Rev. J.B. Gulley officiating. Interment will follow at Hamblen Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Westside Chapel Funeral Home, 3521 West Andrew Johnson Highway, Morristown, is in charge of arrangements.

WILLIAM THOMAS COURTNEY
Howard Courant, January 17, 1924
William Thomas Courtney was born in Russellville, Tennessee, August 23, 1850 and died at his home in Lawrence, Kansas, January 7th, 1924. He attended college at Knoxville, Tennessee. On February 14, 1883, he was married to Alice Patterson, and then moved to Howard, Elk county, Kansas, where he resided until nine years ago when he moved to Lawrence, Kansas, in order that his children might have a college education. To this union with Alice Patterson, four children were born, three daughters and one son, Edwin, who gave his life in France in the World War and was laid to rest in Grace Lawn cemetery, Howard, Kansas.
Mr. Courtney united with the Baptist church at the age of seventeen years and since that time has been a true Christian, his influence for the best things ever being an inspiration to all, with whom he has ever been associated.
He leaves to mourn his loss his widow, and three daughters, Coral Courtney Carter, Wilson, Kansas; Della Courtney Shaw, Kansas City, Kansas; and Mary Courtney Eby, of Howard, Kansas; two grandson, Darrel Thomas Shaw, Kansas City, Kansas and Eli Whitney Eby, Howard, Kansas Also there are three brothers, John Courtney and James Courtney of Piedmont, Kansas and Lafayette Courtney of Cyril, Oklahoma, and a host of friends.
A funeral service was held at the home in Lawrence, Kansas, Wednesday morning, January 9th, at 10 a.m., Rev. Frank Jennings, pastor of the First Baptist church of Lawrence, of which Mr. Courtney was a member, being in charge. The body was then brought to Howard, where a funeral service was held at the First Baptist church, Thursday afternoon, January 10th, at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Jennings and Rev. J. D. Watkins of the Howard church, being in charge. The body was laid to rest in the family lot in Grace Lawn cemetery.

MRS. ANNIE HOWELL
MORRISTOWN--Mrs. Annie Mae Massengill Howell, 65, died in the Morristown Hamblen Hospital at 4:30 a.m. Friday.
Survivors include on daughter, Mrs. Harold Torbett, St. Petersburg, Fla.: one son, William Dean Howell, Sr., Morristown: three sisters, Mrsl Robert L. Wood, Mrs. Pat Durham, both of Morristown, and Mrs. Ray Colboch, rogersville; four brothers, Hix Massengill, Rogan Massengil, J.W. Massengill, all of Morristown, and William Massengill of Greeneville.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Springs Methodist Church. Rev. Allen Carpenter, and Rev. Bobby Ely will officiate. Burial will follow in the Jarnegan Cemetery.
Pall Bearers will be Fred Howard, Walter McGinnis, Hubert Bell, Mike Murror, Prentiss Moyers, Walter Thompson.
Flowerbearers will be members of the Adult Sunday School Class.
The body will be returned from the Colboch-Price Funeral Home to the home at 2 p.m. Saturday, and will be taken to the church one hour before services.

Judge M. B. D. LANE
MORRISTOWN, October 12. – Judge M. B. D. Lane died last night. His death was somewhat sudden. Although he has been complaining for some days, it was not thought that his trouble was of a serious nature. The judge was one of our most prominent citizens and has been identified with Morristown’s interests for a number of years.

MRS. S. J. MOSS
R. R. Moss, of Cumberland Gap, formerly of Morristown was in the city a few days ago en route to Pinhook, where his mother, Mrs. S. J. Moss, died on April 28th. The remains passed through the city last Thursday, being taken to Morristown where they were interred. Mrs. Moss was born near Morristown in 1836, and had lived in that section of the greater portion of her life. She raised a large family of which there are two sons now living, one in Rhea county and the second at Cumberland Gap. They also have a half brother who lives in Meigs county at whose home the good woman breathed her last.
She was a devout member of the First Baptist church at Mount Zion, Rhea (the rest of the article was cut off)

CLAIBORNE ROBINSON
MORRISTOWN, TENN., March 19. – Mr. Claiborne Robinson died last night. He had been suffering from “grippe” and had recovered sufficiently to be out on Monday, when he took a relapse and death ensued. He was the very popular register of the county and was serving his second term.

CHARLES H. TIBBS
Charles H. Tibbs, a son of William H. Tibbs, formerly of Cleveland, was run over by the train at Dalton, on Monday night last and instantly killed. The deceased was aged about 25 years.
