Wallen’s (Waldren;s)
Ridge
Beginning near Chattanooga,
running north-eastern direction, was visited by Wallen and a company of Long
Hunters before any white settlements in Tennessee.
Missionary Ridge,
Chattanooga
Named because of the first Mission
School for Indians, established on
eastern slope in 1819.
Missionary Ridge was
part of the stragetic ground occupied by armies in Civil War, 1860-1864.
Bragg’s Tower, an outlook, is
still maintained on the crest of the Ridge.
Lookout
Mountain
An outlook place used by
Chickamauga Indians watching approach of Donelson party and the boats of
pioneers on their way to Cumberland
settlements.
In the Civil War of 1860 the Battle
above the Clouds was fought on Lookout
Mountain.
Monuments, commemorating the
events of the battle, have been erected.
The outstanding one being the New York
Monument.
