The
following are some of the well known names of
persons who have been connected with the history
of Hamilton County
and the City of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
John
P. Long was Postmaster at Chatanooga
in 1837, after the name was changed from
Rossville. He
was succeeded by David P. Carr in
1845.
Henry
W. Massingill, of the Watauga and Sullivan
County Massengills was Mayor of Chattanooga
in 1854.
Then
the next Mayor was William Williams,
then E. G. Pears and next
D. C. McMillian, Thomas
Chutchfield, Sr., was Mayor in 1860.
Richard
Henderson was Recorder 1852, Daniel
Rawlings in 1854, and D. C. McMillian
in 1855-56.
Richard
Henderson was also County Court Clerk
at one time, of Hamilton County.
Daniel
Henderson, son-in-law of James Cozey
was Circuit Court Clerk - the first.
