James Andrew Foster

Lawyer; born in Hardeman County, Tenn., April 17, 1858; Scotch-Irish German Descent; son of W. J. and Vina (Craven) Foster; educated common schools of Hardeman County; Lebanon Law School; married three times, first, to Sallie Hudson, 1890; second, to Sophie Slone, 1901; third to Carrie Slone, 1907; member W.O.W.; served as Chairman of the Democratic Executive Committee for Hardeman County for six years; twice elected direct representative in the General Assembly of Tennessee from his county; served in the State Senate in 1907; appointed by Gov. Frazier as trustee of the Western State Hospital from 1903-09; appointed Clerk and Master of Hardeman Co. by Chancellor J. W. Ross; has been twice re-appointed by Chancellor Tom C. Rye. Elected Pres. Hardeman County Savings Bank April 4, 1932, which post he now holds. Has been, for many years, one of the leading figures of his county; is the father of two children, Willie Carrol, ex-soldier of the World War, and George Fletcher, deceased. His hobby is gardening.
