Jones Cemetery is on he Wildersville road a mile east of Hwy. 22 and Parker's Crossroads. The cemetery was begun in 1845 on an acre of land donated by Tom Jones who lived jueast east of the land.
The first marked graves are two single crypts with names carved in the heavy stone lids. They are Sarah Boren who died September 26, 1845 and her husband Elijah F. Juen 22, 1855.
Other interesting graves are those of Rev./Dr.. John Parker (1784-1864) and his wife Rebecca (1791-1871). They are buried crossways to the others in the cemetery. The story is that the doctor's house which was located at Parkers' Crossroads was used as a hospital during that battle and when the doctor died, he had himself buried with his feet to the north so he could "kick hell out of the Yankees come Judgment Day."
Ennis D. Fesmire, who lives across the road from the cemetery, is the caretaker as was his father. Mr. Fesmire has placed a stone at the entrance of the cemetery which states: "Jones Cemetery 1845. No burials in the driveway." This refers to teh strip of grass just inside the entrance gate which Mr. Fesmire wants kept as a drive. His father had part of their family plot fenced to keep vehicles out. When you stop in the cemetery long enough to write down each name and date, the solitude and the task allows many thoughts and feelings to capture your mind. The impress which dominiated me while working on Jones Cemetery was of the great faith and courage of these people who came before us and created a piece of our history.
