DOROTHY LOUISE ABLES - Services for Dorothy Louise Ables were Sept. 17, 2010 at Reeds Chapel in Lexington with Burial in Sand Ridge Cemetery. Mrs. Ables, age 74, of Lexington passed away Sept. 14, 2010 at Jackson Hospital. Dorothy was the daughter of the late Marie (Walker and Eddie James King. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband William Ables, six daughters, Sharon (Randy) Small, of Lexington; Brenda (Bill) Mathews of Lexington; Janice (Robert) Garrett, of Lexington, Charlotte (Jeff )Armstrong of Huron; Melinda Tate of Lexington; Tammy Johnson of Lexington; three brothers Edward King of KY; Donnie King of KY; Harold King of KY; her mother-in-law Cleater Ables of AL; and 19 grandchildren. She was preceded by a brother Gary King and a sister Jean Grief.

She was formerly of Lexington. She was the widow of J. E. Acree. She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Taylor of Hendersonville, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She leaves her husband, Bobby Allen of Lexington; a son, Michael Kenneth Allen; two brothers, O'Neal Jowers and Randall Jowers, both of Wildersville and her mother, Mrs. Eula Jowers of Wildersville.

ELVIE ALLEN - Services for Ms. Elvie Allen age 83, were Dec. 20, 2010 in the chapel of Pafford Fuenral Home in Lexington. Burial followed in Center Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Allen died Dec. 17, 2010 in Lexington. She was a retired restaurant worker and a member of First Pentecostal CHurch. Mrs. Allen was preceded by 2 husbands Euther Middleton and James W. Allen; son, Ray Middleton and a brother Dec Barker. Survivors include one son, Gary Paul Middleton; two daughters Ruthie Bradley and Melinda Tignor; one brother Edward Baker; one sister Myrtle Singleton and 14 granchildren.

MABEL LOUISE (REEVES) ALLEN - Funeral services were held for Mabel Louise Reeves Allen at Brownsville Funeral Home Friday July 11. Interment followed in Brownsville Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Allen of Blue Goose, age 78,. passed away in Lexington Manor, Lexington TN Wednesday July 9, 2008. She was preceded by her husband Jessie Allen; two sons, Jessie Monroe and Bobby Wayne. Mrs. Allen is survived by two sons David Earl and Jerry Willard both of Huron; two daughters Becky Usery of Blue Goose and Diane Hendrix ofBrownsville TN; one sister Doshey Mae Duke ofHopkinsville KY and fourteen grandchildren.

MYRA RHEA (MONTGOMERY) ALLEN - Funeral services for Mrs. Myra Rhea Allen, age 86, were last Thursday in the chapel of Pafford Funeral Home in Scotts Hill, with Bro. Keith Kirk officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Allen died early Wednesday in Parsons. She was born November 8, 1920 in Decatur County to the late Hillary and Minnie Duck Montgomery. She was a retired employee of Decaturville Sportswear, a member of Scotts Hill Methodist Church and very active with the Scotts Hill Senior Citizens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Floyd Allen. Survivors include her son, Mr. Ralph Aaron of Scotts Hill, her daughter, Shirley McClure of Bath Springs, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

NANCY (WARD) ALLEN - Services for Nancy Ward Allen were Friday after­noon at Nebo Methodist Church with the Rev. Edwin Dyer officating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Pafford Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Allen, who was 84, died Wednesday at her home in Lexington after an Illness of several years. She was a lifelong resident of Henderson County and a Baptist. She leaves three sons, Wal­ter Allen of Lexington, Floyd Allen of Biloxi, Miss, and Cla­rence Allen of Huron; two daughters, Mrs. Hautie McDaniel of Lexington and Mrs. Lucille Hubbard of Luray and a brother, Ben Ward of Bemis.

BELL ANDREWS , who was born in this county and resided here all his life is dead. He died a few days ago at the home in the eastern part of the county. He was a soldier in Col. Kit Williams' Regiment in the late war. Thus has another brave, generous heart ceased to beat. Peace be unto his ashes.

GRACE (COGDELL) ANTHONY , 87, of Sardis, passed away Monday July 5, 2010 in Jackson. She is survived by a daughter Janet (Rande) Miller of Scotts Hill; a granddaughter, Jessica (Ben) Reese, of Henderson. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jr. Cogdell and a sister , Helen Holmes. Funeral services were Wednesday July 7, 2010 at 2 pm at Reed's Chapel in Lexington with burial following in Cogdell Cemetery.

LAVERNE (MAYS) MIDDLETON ANTWINE , 67, hairdresser, died Thursday at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Reed's Chapel of Lexington with burial in Chapel Hill Cemetery. She was a member of the Bemis Chapel Baptist Church. Mrs. Antwine, the wife of William Antwine, also leaves a son, Randy Middleton of Jackson; two sisters, Zula Mays of Jackson and Ethel Garner of Lexington; two brothers, Gilbert Mays of Finger and Lloyd Mays of Jackson; and three grandchildren. First husband, Barney F. Middleton. They married May 10, 1940. He preceded her in death on August 10, 1974.

BLANCHE (MALONE) ARMSTRONG , aged 41 years, daughter of Joe Malone and wife of William Armstrong, died September 3rd, 1926, in the Mason Hospital, Murray, Kentucky. She is survived by three sons, Floyd, Frank S., and William Samuel; also by one brother, E. B. Malone of Decatur County, and three sisters, Mrs. Lila McCoy of Jackson, Mrs. Rella Rogers of Columbia, and Mrs. Sallie Dickson of Jackson. The remains were brought to her home in Lexington on the 3rd inst., the funeral and internment taking place at Lexington Cemetery, the Rev. A. N. Goforth of Jackson, a former Lexington pastor, officiating. Those who lived near Mrs. Armstrong say she was a kindly, generous woman and that the day was never too dreary or the night too dark for her to do what she could for her neighbors.

J.P. ARMSTRONG - After several weeks illiness, MR. J.P. Armstrong died 3 Mar [1904] of pneumonia at his home. He was 60 yrs. old and one of the town's oldest citizens, settling here with his family about 35 yrs. ago. Born in Scotland, he was a sailor for many years on the old-style sailing vessels. He leaves several children.

JOHN PITT ARMSTRONG , son of the late John Pitt and Sarah Armstrong, was born October 29, 1872, in Lexington, and died January 18, 1941, at Bruceton. He was 68 years old. When quite a young boy, Mr. Armstrong began working for the old Tennessee Midland railroad as water boy when the road was being built from Perryville to Memphis. Later he began working for the N. C. & St. L. and continued in that capacity until he rose to be a passenger conductor. He was first married to miss Susie Faulkner and following her death on November 13, 1925, he was married to Millie Simmons, who survives. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. S. L. (Clara) Derryberry of Lexington, and two brothers, Bert and Fred Armstrong, both of Lexington. One sister, Maggie, and one brother, Will, preceded him in death several years ago. Largely attended funeral services were conducted in Bruceton with burial following in Lexington Cemetery.

JOHN GEORGE ARMSTRONG - Graveside services for John George ArmstrongJr. will be Saturday Feb. 6, 2010 at 2 pm at Lexington Cemetery. Mr. Armstrong, age 62, died Tuesday Jan. 26, 2010 at his home. He was born Sep. 7, 1947 in Euclid OH to the late John G. and Edna Armstrong. He is survived by his daughters,Kristie Clifton and Sherri Hopper; their mother Judith Hughes; sister, Sue Kappler grandchild; Kyle and Kayce Clifton, Abbey and Kevin Hopper.

SUSIE (FAULKNER) ARMSTRONG , daughter of the late Rev. J. W. and Mrs. Sarah Faulkner, was born August 6th 1874, in Chickasaw County, Mississippi, and as the beloved wife of John Armstrong, died November 13th, 1925, in a hospital at Murray, Kentucky. Her decline in health had been long, but her fatal illness was comparatively short and caused by blood poisoning. She was most happily married to john Armstrong November 3rd, 1897, and the one child born to the couple died in infancy many years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong lived in Lexington until his position as conductor on the N. C. & St. L. Railway called him to Paducah. With a recent change, Mr. Armstrong became conductor on the Paris-Paducah accommodations, and they have been living in Paris for a short while. The remains were brought to Lexington and carried to the home of Fred Armstrong, brother-in-law of the deceased, and after the last service conducted by Rev. Fleetwood Ball, Sunday afternoon with interment in Lexington Cemetery. Mrs. Armstrong's father at one time was pastor of Lexington M. E. Church and she was of that faith. That she was a most estimable woman, those to whom she lived closest and longest testify. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. J. E. Connolly, one half sister and two half brothers, all of whom loved her if bound by the closer tie; and all of whom have the deepest sympathy of a host of friends.

WILLIAM SAMPLE ARMSTRONG , son of the late John Armstrong, died in Lexington, August 17, 1927. His wife died one year ago, and he was living with his son, Frank, while working as a member of the Ace Joslin bridge crew on the N. C. & St. L. Railway. He was married to Blanche Malone of Decatur County, and Floyd, Frank and Wilbur, the three children born to the union, survive. He is also survived by three brothers, John, Andy and Fred, and one sister, Mrs. Locie Derryberry. Another sister, Mrs. Henry Riddick, died in Arkansas several years ago. MARY ELLEN (FISHER) ARNDT - Services were at Reeds Chapel, Decaturville at 2 pm Saturday April 2, 2011 with Jack Freckman, Cotton Ivy and Steve Douglas officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Arndt age 75, of Nashville died March 29, 2011 in Nashville. She was a devoted wife and loving mother as well as s sports enthusiast; playing softball for 58 years , she became the 1st member of the Senior Women's amateur Softball Hall of Fame; received a Basketball Scolarship from Nashville Business College. She is survived by her husband John Arndt, four daughters, Amy, Kerry, Terry, Pam and a son Neil; two sisters Dot Freckman, Janie Hyde; three brothers Martin Fisher, Ralph and Sammie Fisher. She was preceded by her parents Hallie and Grapel (Brasher) Fisher.

Mrs. Arnold who was 62, died Monday morning at Baptist Memorial Hsp. in Memphis after a short illness. She was a Henderson County native and a member of the Church of Christ. She and her husband, William, owned and operated Arnold's Studio since 1940. She leaves her husband of Lexington, a daughter, Mrs. Beth Lee of Memphis; a brother, Elmer Dyer of Sugar Tree and two granddaughters.

The infant, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Allen Arnold of Lexington, died Wednesday night at Jackson General Hospital. He also leaves a sister Vickie of Lexington; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Arnold of Lexington and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Flatt of Scotts Hill.

He was a retired farmer. JAMES M. ARNOLD son of the late Willis N. and Margaret (Garrett) Arnold, was born in Henderson County July 27, 1849, and died in his home in Lexington July 30, 1930. His early days were spent on the farm and his first public work was teaching school in the county. In 1887 he graduated in medicine and began the practice in his parental home in the old 5th district but some 32 years ago he came to Lexington and was here active until about seven years ago when he retired. On December 14, 1882 he was married to Lucy McCollum and of the 9 children born to the union, the following survive with their mother; Murray, Medina druggist; Lyman, Lexington; Loy (Mrs. I.M. Dennison) Lexington and Miss Margie unmarried. Elta married James Nuckolls and died several years ago, leaving her husband and one son, James, who had lived in the home of his grandparents practically all his life. Dr. Arnld was a member of the Baptist Church and the last tribute to hismemory in the service was held in his home and conducted by his pastor, Rev. Fleetwood Ball, after which the body was carried to Unity near the old Arnold home.

Andrew Stokes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Arnold, the son of the late James Comer and Mrs. Wilda Dean Arnold died Friday at the Lexington Methodist Hospital. He was an electrician for the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) and a graduate of North Side High School, a Navy Veteran and a member of the Constantine Masonic Lodge of Lexington and member of the IBEW. Survivors include his wife, Annita Arnold of Lexington; two sons, James Michael Arnold of Humboldt and Daniel Keith Arnold of Lexington; a sister, Sandra Jones of Pheonix, AZ and his mother Mrs. Wilda Dean Arnold of Lexington.
