SMITH M. EDGE
, age 81 years, was stricken with double pneumonia in his home in the old 12th district last Saturday night and 24 hours later, he breathed his last with his family by his side. Esq. Edge was born in Henry Co. GA and when young came to Tennessee. We have no account of his first marriage, but his second wife, who survives him, was Mary, daughter of the late Louis Milam. Bill and Miss Etta are the fruits of this marriage, both up in years and neither ever married or left home. Smith Edge was a man of wide usefulness, a farmer all his life and in addition to that he practiced law in magistrate courts, but always used his utmost efforts to effect a compromise. He served as a member of the County Court and for years had been a merchant. He was a Democrat in politics and a Cumberland Presbyterian in religious belief. His grave is said to be the first in a cemetery in his own homeland, and when the remains were laid to rest Monday afternoon, Rev. William Dancy of Selmer officiated.
