They were born on a wagon after the family had made a trip to Texas. One year before their birth, yellow fever had claimed the lives of 13,000 people in the South. Hayes was president and Edison had just invented incandescent lights. Ada and Ida’s grandfather John B. Wallace, died the same year that they were born. Ada outlived her twin, Ida, by half a century. Ida died of pellagra in 1914, just as World War I began. Ada lived until 1964, when the Civil Rights Movement was in full force. John was 31 and Sarah was 22 when Ada and Ida were born. Ada had a daughter Leona (1908-1993). Leona married Sam Williams (1906-1970) and they had three children – Johnnie, Sadie, and Virgina. (research by Barbara Wallace from Wallace family book)
