PVT. HOLLIS E. ASHWORTH
Pvt. Hollis E. Ashworth has returned to Camp Stoneman, Calif., after spending a five-day leave at home with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Ashworth of Aetna. Private Ashworth entered service October 1, 1952. He received his basic training at Camp Roberts, Calif., with the Seventh Armored Division, 440th Field Artillery Battalion. HOWARD BREECE NOW SERVING IN U. S. NAVY
Howard T. Breece, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dee Breece of Aetna, Route 1, is now serving in the U. S. Navy. He was graduated from Hickman County High School at Centerville in May 1951 and enlisted in the U. S. Navy June 5. He was stationed at San Diego, Calif., for his training. Upon completion of training he was assigned to the USS Maddox, a destroyer. He sailed for Pearl Harbor on January 2 and continued to Japan and landed there January 20. While on this mission they were in Hong Kong, Okinawa, Tokyo, Yokohoma, Formosa, Pearl Harbor, Tyka, Midway, Saslaba and Korea. The USS Maddox fought the longest ship-to-shore duel in Korea and came through with her three sister ships, the Brush, the Thomas and the Moore. All these ships participated in the patrol of Formosa. On April 30, 1952, the USS Maddox engaged Communist shore batteries in a heavy gun battle that lasted four hours. Howard came back into port at Long Beach July 1, 1952. Shortly he came home on a leave and after reporting back to his ship he remained in Long Beach, Calif., until February 2 of this year when they sailed back to Japan, where he probably will serve until September. PVT. HERBERT HASKINS
Pvt. Herbert Haskins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Haskins of Route 1, Lyles, has been assigned to Company H, 145th Infantry Regiment of the Buckeye Division at Camp Polk, La. (The Hickman County Times, Thursday, April 30, 1953)
