Our townsman, Mr. Perry Primm, is building a new barn.

Messrs Anderson & Bates have built a new ferry-boat at Hen Island, in this county.

Mr. J. R. (Bud) Witherspoon is building a new ferry-boat at Brown's Bend, in this county.

A party was given at the residence of Mr. Washington Black, on Beaver Dam, on the night of the 11th inst.

A quiting party was given, night before last, at the residence of Mr. J. A. Bates.  It was a nice little affair.

Several days since, a hog was killed by Mr. Jesse R. Brown, in Brown's Bend, in this county, which weighed 530 lbs, gross.  Who can beat that?

In the afternoon of Wednesday, of last week, Mr. David Hinson, who lives near Beaver Dam furnace, in this county, killed four deer, and wounded the fifth.

J. P. Morrison, who lives on Upper Beaver Dam, in this county, has just returned from Alabama, where he went about two months ago, with a drove of mules.  He reports the mule market in the South to be unite dull.

On Friday, during Christmas, a house occupied by Henry Clay Perkins, colored, on the farm of R. B. Anderson in Anderson's Bend, in this county, was burned, it is supposed, by an incendiary.  We understand that everything in the house was lost.

A party was given at the residence of Mr. A. M. Reaves, in this place last Monday night.

 

We acknowledge the receipt of an invitation from Miss Amelia Easley to be present at her birth-day party, at the Easley House, in this place.

Mr. George Caughron has returned to his home on Beaver Dam, after spending a year in Missouri.  Many hearts were made glad by his coming.

 

I am told that our new merchant, Mr. Jap Peeler is doing a good business at the Cross Roads.

Dr. W. Erwin, of Shady Grove, left this week with his family for Texas.  We are truly sorry to give the Doctor up, and wish him great luck in the Lone Star State.

Our place is rapidly on the increase in population.  Three families came in and settled last Tuesday; the families of Messrs. Chris. Stolz, Jr., and Sr., and Samuel Reese, the father, brother and brother-in-law of our clever stone-mason, George Stolz, who located here last year.  They are from Dayton, Ohio.  There are about 12 or 15 in all.  We extend to them a hearty welcome.

Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Wade Mayberry, Mrs. Howard Bates and children, Sarah and Rodney, visited Mr. Sam Wade who is in the Mid-State Baptist Hospital in Nashville. 

 

Mr. Bobby Harris left for Ft. Knox, Ky., Thursday, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Harris.

 

Mrs. Albert Breece visited her brother, Mr. Sam Wade in Nashville Monday.

 

Rev. Littlefield and Jimmy were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Jinkens Sunday.

 

Mrs. Laddie Morgan and children visited Mrs. Charlie Harris Sunday.

 

The E. M. Bryant family had a reunion at the family home Sunday.  Those present were Alfred Saunders, Floyd Bryant, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Davis and Peggy, Mr. and Mrs. James T. Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Jones, and Donnie, and the Misses Margaret and Marie Bryant, and Crit Harvill, a neighbor.

Totty's Bend - Wm Malugin, of this neighborhood, after selling everything he had, deserted his wife and a six weeks old child, leaving them to the mercies of the people.

Beaver Dam - Miss Annie Walker has gone to Humphreys county, to spend the summer with her sisters, Mrs. W. C. Jones and Mrs. Long Rains.  The boys are sad over her departure.

Mr. Jess Briggs and lady, and Mr. J. T. Briggs, all of Georgia, arrived here last evening, where they again expect to make their home.

 

Mr. John G. Kirkman, of Columbia, has moved, with his family, to this place, which he proposes to carry on the tailoring business.  We wish him great success.

 

Mrs. W. M. Johnson and daughters, Misses Mamie and Emma, left, last Tuesday, for a visit of some time, to Murfreesboro, and they will probably visit the Mammoth Cave, in Kentucky, before their return.

Mrs. A. M. Reaves and daughter, Miss Mollie, were visiting their relative, Mr. Joseph Reaves, of this place, last week.  He has been very ill for some time.

Mr. John Hassell, of Hassell's creek, was in our office this week.  Mr. H. was born May 18, 1798, and has been living on Hassell's Creek about fifty years.

We are told that on the 10th of last month Bud Holderfield left his home in Little Lot, going down Duck river in a canoe, and has not since been heard from.  He left a nice wife who has since moved with her little children to her brother's Howell McGee, near Pinewood.

Mr. David W. Peery and family of Swan, left on last Wednesday to make their future home in Hickman County, Kentucky.

 

Little Lot - W. M. Ratliff has moved and taken charge of the new poor house, and is ready to receive all the poor.

Miles Spence and family have moved from Texas to his father's, M. A. Spence, at this place.

Little Lot - We have had another runaway.  W. S. Harrington left his wife and children and together with a Mrs. Lou Prichard, a widow, left for parts unknown to us.

 

Pinewood - We regret that our friend, W. H. Beasley, is growing more and more insane.  His family propose sending him to the asylum, and we hope he will soon be restored.

Mr. Perry Primm and family, of this place, left on last Monday for Fort Smith, Ark., which place they will make their home.  We wish them all the good luck in the world in their new home.

Mr. Ben F. Harris, of Wades branch, joined the Golden Cross at this place last Saturday night.

 

Mrs. Jane Guthrie arrived from Texas, last week.  She is a native of this county, her maiden name being Bingham.  She formerly lived near Shady Grove.
