Wednesday, Jan. 9th, 1878 - County Court An appropriation of $12, was made for the benefit of a helpless child of Mrs. Caily.
Thomas Bates renewed his bond as guardian of Atlantic Bates and others.
W. A. Baker was appointed guardian of C. J., F. P. and M. W. Baker, which guardianship S. G. Baker had resigned. W. A. Baker gave bond in the sum of $500.
W. W. Shipp gave bond as guardian of Margaret Shipp and others
Thursday, Jan. 10th, 1878 - County Court E. A. Dean was appointed adm'r of Elizabeth Covington, dec'd, and gave bond in the sum of $800.
Alten McCaleb was appointed executor of Johnson Harwell, dec'd, and gave bond in the sum of $500.
T. S. Easley renewed his bond as guardian of Priscilla and Ford Lovelace, in the sum of $700.
Perry Primm renewed his bond, in the sum of $800, as guardian of Miss Susie Sugg.

COUNTY COURT PROCEEDINGS W. P. Coleman re-elected County Surveyor, William Anderson elected Coroner, R. Dean re-elected Ranger. Jesse Downey, D. J. Bryant, Bell Field Atkeison, A. J. Cates and John J. Howell were released from payment of poll taxes. Ross Breece resigned the office of Justice of the Peace. Ordered that the Chairman issue his warrant to the Justices upon report of the Clerk at the close of each quarterly court. The following were appointed a committee to assess taxes for 1878: W. B. Russell, W. B. Erwin, T. S. Easley, J. A. Jones and A. V. Edwards, who made the following assessments: 20 cents on the one hundred dollars' worth of taxable property for county purposes, 10 cents on the one hundred dollars for school purposes, one half of State tax for county purposes on privileges, 50 cents on the poll for school purposes, one dollar on the poll and 10 cents on the one hundred dollars' worth of taxable property for bridge purposes. Protest was entered by J. A. Jones and A. V. Edwards of said committee against assessing bridge tax. W. G. Clagett, T. S. Easley and G. W. Gray were appointed as permanent committee on care and repairs of the county property. The following were appointed tax assessors in their respective districts: First District - T. S. TRUSTEE'S SALE By virtue of the authority vested in me by trust-deed executed to me by A. W. Younger, and recorded in the Register's office of Hickman County, in Book No. 1 of trust-deeds, pages 344 and 345, I will offer for sale to the highest bidder, at the Court House door in Centreville, on Monday, June 3, 1878, the following described tract of land: Bounded on the north by lands of Horatio Clagett and Jesse P. Hunter; on the south by a tract of land purchased by A. W. Younger from Zebulon Hassell, and on the west by a tract owned by the heirs of Aaron V. Brown, containing, by estimation, 150 acres, more or less. Sold as the property of A. W. Younger to satisfy a debt due J. H. Martin, Sr., and H. C. Campbell, for $165.25 and interest and cost. NOTICE By virtue of the power in me vested by a deed in trust made by Hugh Depriest to me as trustee for the benefit of C. Cotham & Son and Kahn & Wolf, on the 30th day of March, 1877, I will on Saturday, August 3, 1878, at the late residence of Jesse Depriest, on the waters of Cane Creek, in Hickman County, Tenn., offer for sale and sell to the highest bidder for cash, the following described tract of land, lying and being in the Tenth civil district of Hickman county, Tenn., and bounded as follows, to with: On the north by B. Bostain's land; on the east by Etna Furnace lands; on the south and west by A. J. Depriest's lands -- it being lot No. 1 in the partition of the lands of Jesse Depriest, deceased and contains 146 acres. Non-Resident Notice Isabel Warren vs. Samuel Warren -- Divorce In this cause it appearing unto the satisfaction of the clerk and master, from the allegations in complainant's bill, which is sworn to, that the defendant, Samuel Warren is a non-resident of the State of Tennessee, so that the usual process of law cannot be served upon him. It is therefore ordered that publication be made for four consecutive weeks, in the Hickman Pioneer, a newspaper published in the town of Centreville, requiring the defendant to appear at the court house, in Centreville, on or before the first Monday in March, next, and plead, answer, or demur to complainant's bill, or the same will be taken for confessed as to him and set for hearing exparte. R. , judgement for complainant and appealed to the supreme court. Trustees of Centreville Academy vs. Buck Brown, et al., petition for injunction against the sale or giving away of liquor in the town of Centreville, injunction granted; also for violation of the provision of said injunction, compromised, defendants paying costs and removing liquor. William Williams vs. B. F. Tanner et al., land case, compromised. Lavisa Hassell vs. T. S. Broome et al., account, order retiring cause and judgement for costs against defendants. Mary Nunneley vs. Allen Nunneley, divorce granted. Lewis Bates, administrator of Elizabeth Darden, deceased, vs. Y. J. Harvill, account, compromised and settled, each party paying half the cost and cause retired from docket. John Downing, executor of Isham Johnson, deceased, vs. Nancy Bastian et al., bill dismissed at complainant's cost. William Woolard vs. A. J. Lowe, executor, complainant dismisses his bill and defendant assumes cost. Comfort Perry, by next friend, vs. Woodard & Moore et al., note, etc. decree for complainant and appealed to supreme court. EXECUTOR'S SALE OF LAND By virtue of authority vested in me as executor of the will of Adam Coble, deceased, I will on Thursday, October 30th, 1884, sell at public auction to the highest and best bidder, on a credit of one and two years, all the lands of which said Adam Coble, died, seized and possessed, situated in the 9th civil district of Hickman county, on the Sulphur fork of Beaverdam creek, and known as the old homestead, containing about nine (900) hundred acres, more or less; said sale to take place on the premises, and the purchaser or purchasers will be required to execute notes with approved personal security, and a lien will be retained on the land also to secure the payment of the purchase money. At the same time and place I will also sell the personal property of the said deceased, consisting of one mare and mule colt, household and kitchen furniture, upon a credit of one year, purchaser or purchasers execute note or notes with approved personal security. COUNTY COURT On Monday, Feb 2nd, 1885, Hickman county court met in monthly session, his worship J. A. Bates, chairman, presiding; W. P. Coleman, clerk; W. H. Philips, she'ff. Settlements were made by the following parties: W. A. Baker, adm'r, E. A. Dean, guardian. Committee to set aside a year's support for the widow of David Hinson, made report. The committee appointed to set aside a years support for the widow of Dr. A. L. Harrington, reported. W. H. Walker, A. Sparks and C. Wilkins were appointed to lay off a years support for the widow of Dr. J. L. Spence. W. J. D. Spence was appointed as administrator of Dr. J. L. Spence, deceased, with R. C. Wilkins, A. C. Wilkins and J. H. Coleman as securities. J. B. Shelby was appointed administrator of the estate of Mamie Gilmer, deceased, with E. B. Short and B. B. Mobley, securities. Mrs. S. A. Barham was appointed administratrix of the estate of her deceased husband, H. F. Barham, with Lewis Bates, Lafayette Bates and John M. Bates, as securities. G. W. Mathis, tax assessor, being disabled, was released from duty and J. C. Peeler appointed in his stead. Thomas Bates, Samuel Cochran, R. B. Bates, R. C. Wilkins, Lafayette Whiteside, Margaret A. COUNTY COURT At the October term of the county court, in monthly session, the following business was transacted; His Worship J. A. Bates, chairman: P. B. Poore was appointed guardian of Maggie, Charlie and Lucie Poore. F. A. Dean renewed his bond as guardian of Daisie Dean. H. B. Nichols was appointed guardian of A. C. Nichols. The will of Thomas Wilkins, dec'd, was probated, and report of commissioners to lay off homestead and dower for widow confirmed. Commissioners appointed to partition land in case of W. M. Elkins et al. vs. George Elkins et al., made report and same was confirmed. Will of Lawson H. Nunnelly was probated; W. S. Nunnelly executor. W. P. Clarke was appointed administrator of the estate of W. W. Moore, deceased. John H. Clagett was appointed administrator of George Flowers, deceased. John and P. E. Walker were apprenticed to John H. Thompson and L. E. Nunnelly. All the parties being colored. Report of commissioners for laying off year's support for Mrs. J. W. Sisco was confirmed. The following guardians made settlement: J. T. Allen McCaleb was appointed administrator of the estate of B. B. Bates, deceased. D. C. Baird was appointed administrator of the estate of Francis Harris, deceased. Settlements were made by the following guardians, A. Byers, R. C. Wilkins, S. M. Skelton, Mrs. M. A. Meece. A. J. Lowe renewed his bond as guardian of D. J. and J. H. Pinkerton; also F. M. MARCH COUNTY COURT Settlements were made by the following guardians: B. B. Bates, D. N. Walker, C. J. Charter, J. L. Thompson; also by administrators D. N. Walker, J. B. F. Briggs, Lewis Bates and H. Nixon. Jno. T. Walker, trustee of E. G. Thompson, resigned his trusteeship and the property in his hands was handed over to E. G. Thompson. W. H. Carr, presented a fox scalp and was allowed credit on taxes.
