Cemeteries of Madison County

Springfield Family Cemetery

Photographer Tim Batross
Restored by Big Black Creek Historical Association

The Springfield's were a very wealthy family in this area, there are only four burials in this little cemetery. The iron fencing, surrounding the cemetery, was very expensive for the time. Tim batross is believes this cemetery has ever been recorded. Brenda, Tim's wife, and David Smith are in one of the pictures working on this cemetery. Each of these iron sections weighs close to 200 pounds. Tim has the cuts to prove it. We will have to wait until after the crop is harvested in the farmer's field before we can go back and re-erect the fencing and secure it in 2009.
