BERTHA BELL ADAMS , age 70, died Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Jackson General Hosptical. Services will be Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 12 Noon at Cumberland Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Visitation and Family Hour for Mrs. Adams will be held on Saturday morning at Cumberland Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until time of service. Mercer Brothers Funeral Home JAMES WILSON ADCOCK - Graveside services for James Wilson Adcock age 80, of Scotts Hill will be May 1, 2008 at Highland Memorial Gardens in Jackson with Rev. Steve Callicoatt officiating. Mr. Adcock died Monday in Jackson. He was a retired bookeepeer for US Forestry Service in Sewanee and retired from ITT in Milan and a member of Northside Baptist Church in Milan. Survivors include a sister Doris (Kenneth) Michael of Scotts Hill, a niece Joyce Howell of Jackson and several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents William H. and Lillian Adcock and a newphew John Michael. He was a loving brother and uncle. The family would like to thank Jennifer McLemore and Gail Hammons his nurses and JMCGH for their compassionae care. Pallbearers will be Paul Replogle, John David Favara, Johnny D. McPeake and John Fisher. Lexington Progress 30 April 2008 WILLIAM H. ADKINS - Funeral Services for William H. Adkins, age 82 of Pinson, will be held on Wednesday, January 19th at 1 p.m., in the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons, with Bro. Jeff Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Mr. Billy was born in Jackson, TN on November 17, 1929, the son of Charley and Louise Adkins. As a young man, Billy mastered the art of being a butcher, he then enlisted in the Army and served the United States in the Korean War. After returning home to Jackson, he married Virginia Ables in 1953. They together owned and operated a successful business in Jackson known as the Mutual Market until their retirement in 1997. After his beloved wife passed in 2003, Mr. Billy decided to come out of retirement, so he opened the Mutual Market in Pinson, which allowed him to serve the Community that he loved and made many great friends. He is survived by a daughter, Brenda Dudley (Jerry) of Pinson; 2 grandchildren, Melissa Laster (Scott) and Billy Flanagan (Denise) of Henderson; 4 great-granchildren, Josh and Jacob Laster, and Maggie and Lydia Flanagan. Jackson Sun MILDRED MAE ALEXANDER - Graveside Services for Mildred Mae Alexander, age 86 of Jackson, TN, will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at Highland Memorial Gardens, with Pastor John Clark officiating. Mrs. Alexander was born on July 10, 1924 in Jackson, TN. She married the late Ben Alexander of Jackson. They made their home in Mobile, AL for many years before returning to Jackson. She is survived by her daughter, Melinda (Marvin) Shelby, both of Jackson; grandchildren, Becky Alexander, Beth (Andrew) Bright, Nick (Kate) Shelby; three great-grandchildren, Megan Horsley, Brandon Maxwell and Taylor Shelby, all of Jackson NANNIE ALEXANDER , widow of the late June Alexander, died at McCombs City,Miss., of consumption last Monday night. Her remains will arrive over the Illinois Central Railroad this morning and be carried to Riverside Cemetery. The burial service will be conducted by Rev. J.E. Stuart. BENJAMIN P. ALLEN
, age 30 of Jackson, passed away Monday at teh Jackson Madison Hospital. Services will be held on Friday APril 1, 2011 at 2 pm at Aldersgate United Methodist CHurch with Dr. John Bonson and Dr. Barry Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Ben was born Sept. 15, 1980 to John H. and Katherine (Roberg) Allen. He was an electrician and worked for John H. Allen Company. He was a devoted son, brother and father to his two daughters, Lilly Katharine Allen and ANniston Judith Allen. Ben graduated from the University School of Jackson, playing four years of varsity baseball. He continued his education at Murray State University and Jackson State Community College, graduating with an Associate's Degree in Business Administration. Other than his parents and his daughters, he is survived by two brothers, John "Nick" Allen (Melanie) and Joshua David Allen (Celia) both of Jackson and one grandmother Mrs. Genevieve L. Roberg. He was preceded by three grandparents, John A. Robert, George N. and Larue Allen. George A Smith and Sons in charge of services.
Jackson Sun 31 Mar 2011 DRUSILLA JOYCE ALLEN - Funeral services for Drusilla Joyce Allen, age 67, will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday April 12, 2008 at the North Chapel of George A Smith and Sons Funeral Home with Brother John Archer officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Miss. Allen died Thursday April 10, 2008 at Maplewood Health Care Center. She was born June 27, 1940 in Humboldt, Tennessee the daughter of the late Arthur R.V. and Bernice Smith Allen. Joyce was a retired school teacher. She was Methodist in belief. She is survived by her sister, Janell Allen of Jackson, Tennessee; brother, Arthur Wayne and wife Carolyn Allen of Newbern, Tennessee; a niece, Kim Hardin and husband Joey of Dyersburg, Tennessee; nephews, Kevin and wife Sabrena Allen, and their son Tray of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Kenneth Allen of Ripley, Tennessee. Pallbearers to serve are Kevin Allen, Kenneth Allen ,Ricky Jelonek, Bill Taylor, Joe Pierson and Ryan Cleek. Jackson Sun CHARLES ANDERSON - Services for Charles H. Anderson, who died last Friday morning at his home at Jackson were held Saturday afternoon at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. C.A. Azbill officiating. Burial was in Brown's scemetery. Mr. Anderson was 73 and a life long Baptist. He was born and reare din Henderson County and was the son of the late John D. and Mary Ann Lipscomb Anderson. He had lived at Jackson and in Madison County for the past forty years. He was a retired farmer and cafe operator. He leaves his wife Emma Anderson; three daughters, Lula ANderson of Bells, Mrs. W.R. McKenzie of Fulton KY and Mrs. Murray Barney of Jackson; a stepson J.S. Mullins of Jackson, a stepdaughter Mrs. B.B. Ragan ofJackson and two grandchildren. MARY ANN (GRANGER) GRANGER ANTWINE , age 81 of Jackson, passed from this life on Sunday, October 31, 2010 at Regional Hospital of Jackson. Funeral Services for Mrs. Antwine will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 10 a.m., at the George A. Smith and Sons South Chapel, burial will follow in the Highland Memorial Gardens. Mary Ann graduated from J. B Young High School in Bemis. She was employed by the J. C. Penny Store in Jackson, where she managed the catalog department until her retirement. Preceding her in death were her parents, J.H. and Nellie Babb Granger of Hardeman County, TN; her first husband, Wilburn Eugene Herriman; 1 brother, Boyette O. Granger and 1 sister, Carrie Nell (Patsy) Mainers. She is survived by her husband, William L. (Bill) Antwine; 2 sons, Johnny Eugene Herriman of Jackson and Kevin Ray Herriman of Tyler, TX; 3 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson; 1 sister, Opal Buckingham of Bemis; 1 brother, Lynn Granger of Jackson, and 5 step children. Jackson Sun RICHARD DEAN APPLETON - Services for Richard Dean Appleton, 73, will be held at 2:00 P. M. Sunday, October 21, 2007 in the Chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors with Rev. Paul Phillips officiating. Entombment will follow in the Highland Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Mr. Appleton died on Thursday, October 18, 2007 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Dean was born in Cades, TN on June 16, 1934, the son of the late Vivian Earl and Clara Elvie Frazier Appleton. He was employed with the Federal Aviation Administration as an Air Traffic Controller for over twenty-two years, retiring in 1974. He was a member West Jackson Baptist Church of Jackson. He was very active in St. John's Masonic Lodge # 332, where he had served in various positions including Worshipful Master. He was a 33 Degree Scottish Rite Mason and was a Shriner with Al Chymia Temple in Memphis. He enjoyed playing golf and following sports of all kinds. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Appleton of Jackson; a son, Michael Appleton of Golden, CO; and a daughter, Patti Kovac and husband Jim of Liberty Township, OH; a brother, Robert Appleton and wife Joan of Milan, TN and a sister, Brenda Palmer of Sanford, NC and a grandchild, David Kovac of Liberty Township, OH. Pallbearers to serve will be Gary Buchanan, Bobby Appleton, Jim Appleton, Bruce Moore, Dr. Clint Buchanan, Robbie Appleton, Brad Vallentine and Mike Palmer. The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, October 20, 2007 from 4:00 P. M. until 6:00 P. M. with a Masonic Service to follow at 6:00 P. M. in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors. J.A. ARRINGTON , died at his home on Main Street, Jackson, at an early hour Wednesday morning after a short illness with lagrippe. For many years the deceased had been one of the leading dentists of that city and his death will be regretted by many who knew him. He leaves a wife and one daughter, Mrs. Kenzie, who with her husband, resides at the Arrington home. Mrs. Arrington is a niece of Judge John M. Taylor of this place, who, owing to illness could not attend the funeral. Lexington Progress 4 March 1910 BARBARA GALE (REEVES) AUSTIN , was born August 15, 1953 in Ridgely, TN to the late George and Wilma Terry Reeves. She died December 18, 2010 in Jackson TN. Barbara was a member of the First Baptist Church in Humboldt and was preceded in death by her parents, George and Wilma Reeves. Barbara leaves her husband of 40 years, Kenneth Austin; children, Linda Austin and Chris Austin; grandchildren, Kenlee Austin-Cooper and Brayden Butler all of Humboldt, TN; siblings, Billy Joe Reeves of Milan, TN and Brenda Sue Stegall of Jackson, TN. Services will be conducted 2 p.m., Monday from the Chapel of Medina Funeral Home with Bro. Greg McFadden and Bro. Bill Brown officiating. LOIS (ODLE) AUSTIN - Services for Lois Odle Austin, 83, will be Sunday September 19, 1999 from the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. Michael Garrett will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardes. Mrs. Austin died September 17, 1999 at Northbrooke Health Care Center. She was born in Decatur County the daughter of the late James Jackson and Francis WIllie Odle. She graduated from Parsons High School and received her teaching certificate from Union University. She is a homemaker and devoted wife and mother. Mrs. Austin was married in 1934 to Van W. Austin who died November 23, 1995. She is survived by one son, Jerry L. Austin and wife Mae of Jackson and one daughter, Karen Wright and husband Giley of Jackson; one sister, Carmon Thomas of Nashville; grandchildren, Russell Wright, Kevin Wright, Amy Garrett, Allen Austin, Diana Oaks, Jerry Blackstock, Carol Wimberley and Michael Blackstock and 18 great grandchildren. Mrs. Austin was preceded in death by three sisters, Mae Warden, Ima Joyner, Maude Lewis and one brother, Dave Odle. Mrs. Austin, 83, died Wednesday April 23, 1997 at her home in Lexington. She was a homemaker. She leaves two sons, Bobby Austin ofJackson and Jerry of Humboldt; a daughter, Carol Wimberley of Murray KY and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his mother Ruby Nichols Hughes of Huron; three sisters, Shirley Wilson, Vivian Moody and Sue Burton all of Huron; a brother, Lanny Bruce Hughes of Huron and five grandchildren. He leaves his wife Mrs. Myrtie Stewart Austin, of Lexington; a daughter, Carol Austin Wimberley of Memphis, two sons, Bobby of Jackson and Jerry of Humboldt, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Lexington Progress Dec 1992 (Son of Elijah Eli & Eva Thornton Austin - Doe Creek Family) MARY (LOVELL) AUTRY retired mother of four, was born in Madison County, the daughter of the late William Covie and Clydia Terry Lovell and lived in the Three Way Community for several years. Ms. Autry worked for many years for ITT in Milan. She was a member of Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Robert, Ralph, Royce and Weldon Lovell. She leaves four children, Jan Autry, Kathie Williams and Bobby Autry all of Medina and Andy Autry of Lexington; five sisters, Elnora Graves of Medina, Billie O'Neal of Little Rock, AR, Maxine Wallis of Texas, Julia Thomas of Dresden and Edna Algea of Jackson; a brother, Terry Lovell of Jackson; grandchildren, Chris, Shane, Chelsea, Tracy, Caleb, Cody and Savannah and a great-grandchild, Gracie.
