FRED BAILEY
- Graveside services for Fred Bailey were Monday at Highland Memorial Gardens. George A. Smith and Sons Funeral home was in charge. Mr. Bailey, who was 70, died Saturday afternoon at his residence at Jackson after a short illnss. He was a retired electrician and a Mason. He leaves his wife Mrs. Virginia Allen Bailey of Jackson; five brothers, James A. Bailey, Sam Bailey, both of Jackson, Paul Bailey of Lexington, Hubert F. Bailey of Pinson and J.W. Bailey of Memphis; three sisters Beulah Powers of Jackson, Opal Anderson of Milan and Armanda Wyatt of Scotts Hill.

MAMIE BAKER
- Services for Mrs. Mamie Baker were Thursday at George A. Smith and Sons FUneral Hoome with the Rev. Ken Burnette officiating. Burial was in Hollywood Cemetery. Mrs. Baker 89, died Wednesday at Lexington Manor after a six month illness. She was a Henderson County native and was a methodist. She leaves a sister, Mrs. Mable Crook of Lexington; three brothers, Riley Stanfill, Golie Stanfill both of Sardis and Gordon Stanfill of Poplar Bluff MO.

JUANETTE (ATWATER) BEASLEY
- Services for Mrs. Juanette Atwater Beasley will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 1 p.m., at the Berean Baptist Church. The Interment will take place in the Highland Memorial Gardens.
Juanette Atwater Beasley, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend was born on July 17, 1919 to the late John Wesley and Katie Telfer Atwater in Jackson, TN.
She entered eternal life on Friday, January 28, 2011 with her daughter Barbara at her side. The youngest of eight children, Juanette professed faith in God at Hurts Chapel CME Church in Madison County. She later joined Berean Baptist Church and most recently, St. Andrews AME Church in Sacramento.
Mrs. Beasley graduated from Merry High in Jackson. Following the tradition of her older sisters, she graduated from Lane College in 1940 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. She also earned a Master's Degree in Education Administration from Tennessee State University, and did additional studies at Fisk University, Indiana University and the University of Memphis. Following college, she taught at segregated schools in Missouri and Tennessee. In 1943, she traveled to Los Angeles, CA to marry her college sweetheart, Samuel Wardell Beasley, stationed there in the US Army. They married on September 21, 1943 in Yuma, AZ and remained married for 57 years. To this union, two daughters were born, Rhoda and Barbara.
During Mrs. Beasley's career, she was a high school librarian, an English and Literature teacher, and a supervisor of elementary instruction. In 1968, she was appointed Professor of Education and Director of Student Teaching at Lane College, where she remained for 23 years, when she retired. Mrs. Beasley received numerous awards and honors for volunteerism and outstanding service to the community. She served with many organizations including: the Jackson Housing Authority, the Jackson Chapter of AARP, the Retired Teachers Association, the Lane College Alumni Association, the Women's Advisory Committee of Regional Hospital and a lifetime member of the NAACP. She was a Golden Life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated; a Platinum member of The Links, Incorporated; the Semper Fidelis Council and a dedicated volunteer at the Jackson General Hospital. She and her husband traveled worldwide and motored to most of the inland 48 states. During retirement, she enjoyed teaching piano lessons and family gatherings, especially with her grandchildren and friends. In 2001, she completed a book tracing the roots of her family, and sharing information about herself, entitled: "Memorable Events While on My Life's Journey." Three years ago, she moved to Sacramento to be with her daughter and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel; daughter, Rhoda; and all seven of her siblings. Mrs. Beasley had a gracious, elegant and loving spirit, and will be greatly missed by her daughter, Barbara Ross (Tommy) Sacramento, CA; grandchildren, Fredrick Kevin Malone (Renee) Memphis, TN, Angela Malone, Washington, DC, Keith Samuel Malone, Houston, TX, Johnathan Ross, Tempe, AZ and Jacquelyn Ross, Sacramento, CA; two great-grandchildren, Kevin Jr. and Dominique Malone, Memphis, TN; traveling companion/caregiver, Portia Cleveland; nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, sorors and all who knew her.
The family hour with the Beasley family will take place this evening from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home. She will lie in state at the church at 9 a.m. on Saturday. There will be a ceremony conducted by the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., at 12 Noon, and by the The Links Inc. at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
HELEN BELL
- Graveside services for Helen C. Bell were March 13, 2010 at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel. Burial followed. Mrs. Bell, a business owner and homemaker, age 75, died March 3, 2010. She is survived by heer children, Joyal Watkins Jr. of Chicago, JudyMartin of Corinth MS, Teresa Pino of HernandoMS, Michael Bell of Olive Branch MS and Susan Bell Boren of Southaven and eight grandchildren.

JUANITA OLIVIA BELL
- Services for Juanita Olivia Bell, age 95, will be Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 12 Noon, at Home Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Clover Creek Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Bell died Friday, October 16, 2009 at her residence. Visitation for Mrs. Bell will begin Friday morning from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m., at Mercer Brothers Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. The remains of Mrs. Bell will lie-in-state at the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of service.

BETTYE MAI BENSON
, 74, of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, September 6, 2004.
She was a native of Jackson, TN and 1947 graduate of Jackson High School. Bettye was a former member of First Christian Church of Jackson and currently a member of Hickory Valley Christian Church. She was a member of the Paragon Community Club.
Bettye was preceded in death by a daughter, Jo Ann Benson Cress.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Joe Neal Benson, Sr.; son, Joe Neal Benson, Jr. and wife Teresa; daughter, Bettye Carol Hunt and husband, Leslie; three grandchildren, Stacey Stockwell, Daniel and Sam Benson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be conducted at 4 p.m. CST on Thursday at Highland Memorial Gardens, Jackson, TN
PAUL JOHN BENSON
, Funeral services for Paul John (P. J.) Haynes, age 85, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Ararat Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Ararat Cemetery.
Mr. Haynes died March 6, 2010 at the family home place in the Huntersville community, where he was born September 30, 1924 and resided his entire life.
He was the son of the late B. Arthur and Minnie Smith Haynes. He was a member of the last graduating class of Huntersville High School. Mr. Haynes was a farmer and a member of Ararat Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his five brothers, Roy, Jeff, Harrison, James and Ruben Haynes. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Dorothy English Haynes; two daughters, Doris Lawrence (Charles) and Ruth Ann Morrison (George); five granddaughters, Elyzabeth Pflasterer (Ryan), Anna Todd (Lane), Margaret Morrison, Meredith Walker (Taylor) and Melissa Morrison. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Addyson, Ava and Ridley Pflasterer; Dylan and Riley Todd; Jack Walker; a sister, Ruth Haltom and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Ararat Baptist Church at 10 AM on Wednesday before the services.
The family requested in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to the Ararat Baptist Church Music Fund.

WILLIAM BIRDSONG
- MURDER - We learn that on Thursday night about 7 o'clock, William Birdsong, Jr. of this county, was shot by James H. Dyson, and instantly expired. This fatal deed was done at Mr. Dyson's own house, and no person but John Birdsong, brother to the deceased, and Dyson's negros were present. We forbear comment until we are more particularly advised of the circumstances.

HERBERT HOOVER BLANKENSHIP
- Funeral services for Herbert H. Blankenship, age 82, will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, October 24, 2011 in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery. Mr. Blankenship died on Friday, October 21, 2011 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Nashville, TN.
A native of Lexington, TN, Herbert was born on November 23, 1928, the son of the late Joseph and Bessie Susan Powers Blankenship. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Merchant Marines as a 1st Mate retiring in 1983. During his time with the Merchant Marines, he was able to travel extensively visiting many other countries around the world. He was also involved with many businesses during his life. He loved his family and was very involved with their many activities.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Denise Blankenship of Jackson, TN; daughters, Cheryl Pope and husband Mike of Goodlettsville, TN, Susan Blankenship of Jackson, TN, Lori Camp and husband Daryl of Jackson, Amy Bonham and husband Steven of Jackson, TN; sons, Gary Blankenship and wife Dian of Memphis, TN and David Blankenship of Cordova, TN; grandchildren, Andrea Smith, Melanie Crosby, Christie Hunter, Tiffani Pope, Billy Blankenship, Crystal Alexander, Tommy Blankenship, Katarina Blankenship, Nicole Camp, Lyndsey Camp, Morgan Seech and Cooper Bonham; ten great grandchildren; sister, Mary Hinson of Milan.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Debra White; brothers, Charles Lindberg Blankenship, Joe Blankenship and John A. Blankenship; sisters, Louise Brown and Bonnie Blankenship.
Pallbearers to serve will be Tommy Blankenship, Billy Blankenship, Drew Crosby, Jesse Hunter, Gary Blankenship and Daryl Camp.

LORA (HATLEY) BOND
- Cryptside services for Lora H. Bond age 86 will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday April 27, 2007 at the mausoleum of Highland Memorial Gardens with Rev. Maurice Hays officiating. Mrs. Bond went home to be with the lord on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. She was born in Benton County, TN on September 18, 1920 the daughter of the late James Wiley and Bernice Jordan Hatley and was a homemaker. She was an active member of First Baptist Church until her health declined and was a member of the Eastern Star for more than fifty years. Mrs. Bond, the widow of Henry G. Bond is survived by a daughter, Patricia Boatright and husband, Michael of Jackson, four grandchildren, David Boatright and wife, Candice of Germantown, TN; Keith Boatright and wife, Aimee of Waco, TX; Melissa Ada and Robert Bond of Jackson, TN and by four great grandchildren, Daniel Boatright, Mark Boatright, Alex Boatright and Julie Ada. Other than her parents and husband Mrs. Bond was preceded in death by a brother, James William Bond.

BUSTER BOYKIN
,age 88, died April 16, 2009 after a short illness.
Buster was born in Mississippi to the late Newt and Ida Boykin, and later chose Jackson, TN as his home. He started working for Joseph E. Seagrams & Sons at age 18 and retired at age 62.
Buster was preceded in death by his wife Hazel Tims Boykin, stepsons James Wilson and Max Stanfill.
He is survived by a daughter Marie Boykin; grandchildren Jimmy Crews (Felina), Jimmie Crews (Terry) Tracy Boykin (Aaron), Linda Shands (Shannon), B.J. Wilson, Jacob and Mike Stanfill; great grandchildren, Alicia, Bryan and Ashley Crews, Taylor Shands, Mikey and Amber Boykin and Alexandra, Connor and Ty Wilson.
The family will receive friends at Medina Funeral Home on Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 PM, and on Monday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.
Funeral services will be conducted by Bro. Wilbur Dodd, 3:00 PM Monday April 20, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.

BARBARA BROCK
, age 70, died Oct. 5, 2009. The family chose cremation. A memorial service will be held at a later date. She was preceded by her husband, Roland Brock; a daughter, Kelly Brock; three brothers, Fred Dailey, Ramond Dailey and Charles Dailey; two sisters, Judy Chumney and Brenda Tucker. Survivors included a daughter April Jarioooooooout; two sons, Ernie Brock and Randy Brock. Lawrence Sorensen Funeral Directors were in charge.

A.D. BROWN
, one of the largest shoe manufactueres in the world, died yesterday morning at San Antonio TX where he had gone in search of health. A telegram telling of Mr. Brown's death was received in Jackson yesterday. Mr. Brown was president of the Hamilton-Brown Shoe Company of St. Louis, where he had been actively engaged in the manufacture of shoes for more than forty years. He was sefenty years of age. The news of Mr. Brown's death occasioned genuine sorrow among a number of Jacksonians who know hm and learned with deep regret by the friends of Mr.a nd Mrs. Alanson C. Brown, formerly of this city. Mrs. Alanson Brown was Miss Stegall of Jackson. Walter L. Stegall and Clyde Aycock of this city will leave for St. Louis tomorrow to attend the funeral.

J.T. BUCK
who died suddenly on February 3, 1959 following a heart attack was a prominent minister and leader in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He had served as pastor, board executive, board member, and home missionary. The attack came while he was sitting on the stage of the Greeneville High School (Greene Co. TN) ready to give a talk to six hundred students. He was pastor of the Cedar Hill church where he had served for two years. He was planning to retire soon and move to his home at Jackson, Tenn (Madison Co). He was born in the nearby Maple Springs community 66 years ago.
Funeral services were held at the Cedar Hill church by Dr. Turner N. Clinard of Greeneville, assisted by Rev. B. F. Guinn, and at the First Cumberland Presbyterian church in Jackson, Tenn., with Rev. O. T. Arnett in charge, assisted by Rev. H. Glenn Finley. A large congregation of friends, including thirty five ministers and church leaders attended the Jackson service.
His survivors include his wife, the former Martha Verner Giles, two sons, and three daughters; Rev. Clinton Buck and Mrs. E.C. Baird of McKenzie, Tenn., Mrs. Olivia Fesmire, Mrs.Velora Watson, and J. T. Buck, Jr., of Jackson. Three brothers, L.H., Charles, and G. C. Buck, and one sister, Mrs. Fannie Caveness. There were thirteen grandchildren. He had held pastorates at Birmingham, Columbus, Miss., New London, Iowa, Ramer, Tenn., Brunswick, Tenn., and Auburn, Ky. He had served as home missionary of West Tennessee Synod and for two years was executive secretary of the denomination's Board of Missions and Evangelism. At the 1958 General Assembly in Birmingham he was honored as Rural Minister of the Year. For a number of years he was a member of the denomination's old Board of Publication.

Lexington Cemetery. Mrs. Butler, a retired home demonstration agent for
Henderson County died Thursday, April 4, 2002 after a brief illness. She
was the widow of Woodrow Butler and a very active member of the Broad
Street Church of Christ . In addition, she was a former school teacher
for Lexington City School, a graduate of both David Lipscomb College in
Nashville and MTSU in Murfreesboro and a member of the Book Lovers Club
in Lexington. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

BETTY LOU (McCARVER) BYRUM
, 66, passed away December 25, 2007 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Betty, a lover of Elvis and "I Love Lucy", was a lady that enjoyed and loved her family; especially her six grandchildren that she leaves behind. Other than her grandchildren she is survived by three daughters; Mary Jane Watson (Dale) of Brownsville, Renee Byrum, and Patricia Anderson (Joe) both of Jackson; a son, Michael LaCreed (Efren) of Miami, Florida; three sisters; Wanda Collins of Paris, Nancy McCarver of Dyersburg, and Barbara Ann Vanalstine of Nevada and one brother, Barney McCarver (Linda) of Jackson. She was preceded in death by her parents; Roy and Ollie Mae Jines McCarver; a sister, Patricia McCarver, and a brother Donald "Duck" McCarver. The family will receive friends from 5:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. on Friday December 28, 2007 at George A. Smith and Sons South Chapel. A private committal service will be held at a later date.
