Madison County TN Obituaries
JAY GUY CISCO - We hope with regret the death of our friend Mr. Jay Guy Cisco which occurred in Nashville last Monday, at the age of 78 years. In the middle 1880's Mr. Cisco was a resident of Jackson and his body was carried back there for burial. In Jackson he was the proprietor of a bookstore and later published the "Forked Deer Blade". At one time, Mr. Disco had dumped on him the mail contract between Lexington and Jackson because of having gone on the bond of the contractor and when we, in the Progress, made some criticisms of the tardiness of the arrival of the mail here over the execrable winter roads, Mr. Cisco said in his Blade that he had heard that jackasses were good beasts of burden and suggested that the editor of the Progress be given a trial on the Jackson - Lexington mail route. But we got to be great friends and that friendship continued until his death. He was of noble French birth or close descent and was truly a noble man by nature, and he was one of the m ost independent men we ever knew, one of the most intelligent, possessing the highest sense of honor and one of the most lovable. For many years at his Nashville home he bought expensive seeds and plants and grew flowers to give to those who loved them, sent them to the rooms of sick people whom he knew and to the aged. He was absolutely without fear and on every occasion and every subject was given to expressing his honest convictions, regardless of consequences. He left three or four sons and daughters, but we never knew any of his family. We trust that he has fgone to enjoy reward by his many kind deeds. Lexington Progress April 28, 1922 JONATHAN B.
