Madison County TN Obituaries HARRY LYNN SANSON - A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Sansom was a plumber, a bricklayer, and worked in construction. He and his wife also operated an antique shop. JAMES GRADY SCOTT - Funeral services for Mr. James Grady Scott age 95, will be conducted Monday April 20, 2009, at 10:00 AM from the North Chapel of George A. He was born in Bemis, son of the late George H. and Minnie Moore Scott, and received his education in the local schools. He was a retired employee of Consolidated Aluminum after 33 years service. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George Scott; and his wife Frances. He was first married to Rosalie Wilson Scott, who died in 1992. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jane Taylor Scott; step-son, Larry Noel Taylor and wife Lesa and their son, Robert Daniel Taylor; nephew, Richard Hunt and wife Carol and their children, Andrew and Gregory; and a niece, Sally Walker and husband Roger. Jackson Sun BILLY RUSSELL SCOTT , 80, of Friendship, died Friday, June 3, 2005, at Crockett County Nursing Home. He worked for Kelly Foods for 22 years and was a restaurant owner. He served in the Army during World War II during the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church. Services were Sunday in the chapel of Friendship Funeral Home with the Rev. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery, Mr. Seward went to be with his Lord Jesus on Wednesday, May 12,201 Oat the age of 82. He was born in Haleyville, AL on March 5,1928 and moved to Jackson, TN at an early age. The son of Lurline and Warren Seward, he graduated high school at Jackson High School in 1946. After graduation, he served 2 years in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Phillipine Sea, where he accompanied Admiral Byrd on one of his expeditions to the South Pole. Upon returning to Jackson, he married Eugenia Davis in December 1949. He attended West Tennessee Business College before working as a conductor/brakeman for ICG Railroad, from which he retired after 37 dedicated years. In addition to the 60 years he devoted to his marriage and family, Mr. Seward worked tirelessly for Freed-Hardeman University's Mid South Youth Camp, to improve the camp for the thousands of children that attend there every year. He was a dedicated and active member of the church at North Jackson Church of Christ. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William (Bill) Warren Seward, Jr. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Eugenia D. Seward; a daughter, Jacqueline S. Harrison of Jackson, TN; a son, Joe Stewart of Huntsville AL; his grandchildren; Emily R. Elzner of Terrell, TX, Alicia M. Smith of Henderson, TN; David and Jeanette Stewart of Huntsville, AL, along with 4 greatgrandchildren. Mrs. Shivley, a retired nurse and member of the Eastern Star passed away Tuesday April 29, 2008 at her son's home in Milan, TN after a long illness. She was born April 27, 1939 in Hardeman County the daughter of the late Stonewall Jackson and Georgia Thomas Jackson. She married Phillip Stephenson in 1958 who preceded her in death. They had two sons who survive, Randy Stephenson and his wife Doris (her beloved caretaker) of Milan, TN and Jackie Stephenson and his wife Tammy of Jackson, TN. She is also survived by grandchildren, Christina Stephenson of Jackson, TN, Rhonda Mitchell and Chad Mitchell and a great grandchild, Kody Mitchell all of Sharon, TN. She married Clark Shivley in 1977 who preceded her in death in 2003. She was also preceded in death by a sister and brother in law Maurice and Jo Mott. MARCUS ALAN SMITH - Graveside services for Mr. Marcus Alan "Foot" Smith, 46, will be held at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, September 30, 2007 at Browns Cemetery. He was born in the Browns Church Community of Madison County and was educated in the county schools, graduating from North Side High School. Ola was married to Arzie Hood. She was born June 5, 1925 in Cumberland County, Tennessee, the daughter of Henry and Laura Burgess King. She was retired from Cumberland Medical Center and was a member of The Stanley Street Church of God of Prophecy. She and her husband Arzie Hood made their home in Dorton community where they raised their children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands of Arzie Hood and Claude Snow, children Leon, Betty Jo and Ronnie Hood and Annie Kilgore, brothers- Milton, Bethel, Leslie, Bill and Jay King and sisters- Mae Burgess and Thelma Cooper. SPENCER , 86, retired letter carrier, died February 1, 2001 at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Elizabeth Arnold Spencer and is survived by a daughter, Judy Thornhill of Jackson; a son, James A. Stegall, died in her home in Jackson Saturday morning. Although having reached the age of 86 years she had been in good health, and only two weeks ago was able to visit her friends in Lexington.. Mrs. Stegall is survived by three sons, Walter, Arthur and Elbert, of Jackson; and three daughters Mrs. Clyde Aycock of Jackson, Mrs. A.C. Brown of St. Louis and Mrs. Henry White of Knoxville. Another son Roy died in the West a few years ago. Dr. Samuel Stanworth of the First Presbyterian Church conducted the funeral service at the home on East Main followed by interment in Hollywood Cemetery. The Stegall family moved from this county to Jackson 34 years ago. Mrs. Stegall had many friends who regret the news of her death. Between the years of 1874 and 878, I first heard of Miss Rhoda Flake through my cousin, Miss Laura Barry, daughter of the late Dr. William Barry, who once lived in the Flake neighborhood, west of Lexington, and many years later it was my pleasure to meet her as the wife of the late Elbert S. Stegall, an outstanding citizen and merchant of Henderson County. Many, practically all of the Stegall family have been my personal friends and I have known the deep devotion of the children to whom even God can give but one- the mother.. W.V.B. STILL - The startling announcement last Wednesday afternoon that Qr.C.A.STILL had been killed by lightening,cast a gloom over the whole city.He was returning home from town and when near his residence,met his death,which was instantaneous.There was a slight contusion on his breast and a bruise on one of his eyes which latter was probably caused by his fall.He was 76 years of age,was a native of Ky.,came to Jackson a young man,never married. The Forked Deer Blade July 12, 1884 Jackson TN ALVIN L. STOGAUGH died on Sunday, May 5, 2002 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital. He was born in Jackson, the son of the late Alex Stobaugh and Bernice Mitchell Stobaugh. He was educated in public schools, graduating from Jackson High in 1942. After three years service in the Army Air Corps during World War II, he returned to graduate from Union University in 1947 and attended graduate school at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. He joined "Southern Bell" telephone in 1948 and retired from "BellSouth" in 1986, after thirty-eight years of service in Tennessee. Mr. Stobaugh was a member of West Jackson Baptist Church, the Telephone Pioneers of America, and a fifty year member of both Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and St. John's Masonic Lodge #332. Survivors include his wife, Ressa Kile Stobaugh of Jackson; two sons, Robert Mitchell Stobaugh and wife Terri of West Memphis, AR and Richard Joseph Stobaugh and wife Suanne of Olive Branch, MS; a daughter, Mary S. Taylor and husband Edwin of Memphis; a step-daughter, Debby P. Brown and husband Bob of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren. He was born near Cookeville, Tennessee, son of Dolphus Terry and Verdie Carter Stout. He moved to Madison County as a young man and worked 23 years for Bemis Mill before retiring in 1965. Mr Stout was a member of the Bemis 20 Year Club and was a Baptist. His wife, the former Lou Ella Wilkins, died in 1977. Surviving are three son, Curtis Stout and Harold Stout, both of Jackson, and Shirley Ray Stout of Bemis; a brother, Robert Stout of Moline, Illinois; four sisters, Mrs Ida Koenig of Charleston, SC, Mrs Baugh McKinnie of Sikeston, Missouri, Mrs Addie Lee Wilkins of Bemis and Mrs Pansy Collins of Memphis; and a grandson.
