BELLWOOD

Bellwood stands on the hill just north of Jackson's business district. The original house, built by Samuel Jackson Hays, was sold to George Miller, president of the Bank of Madison, in the 1850's. The site was then called "Miller Hill." Billy Kirby bought the house in the 1920's and raised the roof making it a two-story house. The tall windows, high seilings, and curved stairway accent this stately home. Kent Gardner restored it in the 1970's and it has changed hands several times since then.
