"The Painted Lady" is owned by Pat Semrau who purchased this wonderful old home in 2004 and gave her the name
of "The Painted Lady". For the last
3 years she has been the home of unique boutique and specialty shops in downtown Jackson. The beautiful old
lady is a beautiful home. She is Lemon Yellow with Red Trim. Pat Semrau saved her as the previous owners were
going to bulldoze here and turn it into a parking lot.
This old home was built in 1897.
James D. Morgan, a conductor for the Illinois Central Railroad, bought the lot. The Morgans built the
Victorian-style front portion of the home between 1897 - 1900. In 1926, Morgans's widow, Addie Morgan,
added the back wing and the two story garage. When Addie Morgan died in 1945, she left the home to her
nieces. They sold it to Walter and Jennie Spencer. The Spencers converted it into the Spencer Apartments
in 1947 and lived in one downstairs apartment.
