Harry D. Bastin - Services for Harry D. Bastin were Tuesday, June 3, at Rogers Funeral Home in Jasper, Tenn., with the Revs. Billy Ellison and G. A. McGrew, officiating. Burial with full military honors was in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens. Mr. Bastin, who was 71, died Sunday in a South Pittsburg hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Vineyard, Ark., was a retired Army major and also retired from Brown Hardware, Jasper.
He leaves his wife, Velma G. Bastin of Jasper; a daughter, Sandra Holmes of Memphis; a son, Larry Bastin, Tacoma, Wash.; two sisters, Bonnie Duck, Lexington and Mary Byars, Calvert City, Ky., and a granddaughter.

Veteran Engineer Dies At Throttle
Cincinnati - Engineer Jesse A. Smith, 65, of 312 North Third Street, Danville, Ky., died at the throttle of the Southern Railway's New Orleans Special in the Union Station here Sunday.
The veteran railroad man brought his train into the depot, closed the throttle, set the brakes and then slumped over dead. Physicians said he had suffered a heart attack. The body was to be sent to Danville for burial.
Smith, a native of Monteagle, Tenn., is survived by his widow; one daughter, Mrs. J. Sterling Towles of Louisville, Ky.; one son, Stephen J. Smith of Danville; three brothers and two sisters
