Tennessee REMARKABLE SUICIDE Date: 1842-04-14; Paper: Sun, published as: The Pittsfield Sun Capt. Jas. Pittit, of Polk County, Tennessee, committed suicide on the 16th of February, by blowing out his brains with a rifle. He had no white family, but about 27 negroes. The jury summoned, upon examining his effects, found his will in a trunk, made about a week previously, together with about 10,000 in gold and silver. The purport of his will was, that all his negroes should be freed, and his personal effects, together with the cash on hand, should be divided amongst them.
