This day Jacob Bird constable of the 3rd District of Sevier County tendered to the court his resignation which was accepted by the court.

This day John Russell Executor of the last will and testament appeared in open court gave a new bond in the sum of two thousand dollars with Absolum Allen & H S Blair as his security the original bond having been destroyed.

This day the court appointed Hiram S Blair guardian to Eli M Blair, Martha Ann Blair & Mary Jane Blair minor orphans who appeared in open court gave bond in the sum of one thousand dollars with Eli Fox & Absolum Allen as his security.

This day Rhoda Douglass administrator of the Estate of Alex. Douglass Decd. appeared in open court and gave a new bond in the sum of five hundred dollars with John Douglass J K Franklin & Israel Wilson the original bond having been destroyed.

This day Rhoda Douglass guardian to the minor heirs of Alex. Douglass decd. came into court and gave a new renewed her bond in the sum of five hundred dollars with John Douglass J K Franklin & Israel Wilson as her security.

This day William M Bryan guardian to Alsey K D Bryan Minor heir of Allen Bryan Decd. came into open court and renewed his bond in the sum of one thousand dollars with Saml. Huffaker as his security

ibid       It appearing to the satisfaction of the court that A B Rolen was charged with a poll tax for the year 1856 and that he served as an overseer of a public road for one year immediately before it is therefore ordered by the court that he be released from said poll tax.

Monday 1st June 1857.

ibid       It appearing to the satisfaction of the court from the affidavit of Elijah Brown that he was improperly charged with one tract of land valued at $125 for the year 1857, and it appearing to the satisfaction of the court that the said Elijah Brown has no land in Sevier County it is therefore ordered by the court that he be released from said Land Tax.

ibid       Upon the verbal petition of Curtis Mills it is ordered by the court that Basdil Scruggs  John Mullendore  Alfred McDaniel  Amos Gobble  Alfred Roberts and Winston Carter be appointed a Jury of view to view and mark out an alteration in the road from Amos Trotters to the West fork of Little Pigeon near Curtis Mills and that they report to the next to the next quarterly term of this court

This day Lowery McBath coroner of Sevier County presented to the court his resignation which was accepted by the court.

It appearing to the satisfaction of the court from the affidavit of H. S. Catlett that he was charged by the assessor with the Taxes on a negro which negro he sold in November last It is therefore ordered by the court that said

ibid       It appearing to the satisfaction of the court from the affidavit of H S Catlett that he was charged with a negro for 1857, by the assessor said negro being valued at $650 and it appearing to the satisfaction of the court that said Catlett had sold said negro in November last, it is therefore ordered by the court that he be released from said taxes.

This day B M Chandler clerk of this court presented the following settlements to wit a settlement made with B D Brabson one of the Executors of John Brabson Decd. a settlement made with B D Brabson guardian to Reps a Davis, a settlement made with Michael Fagala Admr. of the Estate of Adam Fagala Decd. and a settlement made with Wm Bohannon admr. of the Estate of Herckles Ogle Decd. all of which is confirmed by the court and ordered to be recorded.

The Jury summoned by order of this court at the May Term by the Sheriff to inquire into the mental condition of Penelope Scruggs make the following report to wit,

We the undersigned free holders of Sevier County having been duly summoned and sworn as a Jury to inquire into the mental condition of Penelope Scruggs after diligently investigating the matter do find that the said Penelope Scruggs is an Idiot and utterly incapable of managing her own affairs with safety to herself though no manifestation of violence and others we also report that said Penelope Scruggs has an undivided interest in the landed estate of her father supposed to be worth _______ May 28th 1857

ibid       It appearing to the satisfaction of the court that Henry Howard was charged with a poll tax for the year 1857 and that he was over the age of fifty years on the 1st of January last, it is therefore considered by the court that he be released from said poll tax.

ibid       This day Jas. B. Seaton Alexr. Andes & John Nichols produced in court the scalps of six wolves under the age of four months and it appearing to the satisfaction of the court that said wolves was killed in Sevier County It is therefore considered by the court that said Seaton  Andes & Nichols be allowed for the killing of said wolves the sum of twenty four dollars payable out of the State Treasury.

This day Carroll Shrader presented to the court a certificate of his election as Constable of the 3rd District of Sevier County who gave bond and was duly sworn according to law which bond is as follows to wit,

Know all men by these presents that we Carroll Shrader  Adam Houk & John Catlett are held and firmly bound unto the State of Tennessee in the penal sum of four thousand dollars for the payment of which well and truly to be made we bind ourselves our heirs executors and administrators jointly and severally firmly by these presents; sealed with our seals and dated this sixth day of July 1857. The condition of the above obligation is such that if the above bound Carroll Shrader who has been elected a constable of Sevier County for the term of Two years from the first Saturday in March 1857 shall execute and due return make of all process and precepts by him received in virtue his said election and pay and satisfy all fees and sums of money by him received or levied by virtue of any process to the person or persons to whom the same may be due and shall well and truly collect all specific Taxes within Civil District No 3 of Sevier County which by law he is required to collect and pay over to the proper officer authorized by law to receive the same within the time prescribed by law, and in all things well and truly and faithfully execute and discharge the several duties of Constable during his continuance in office then the above obligation to be void otherwise to be in full force

This day Jacob Huber was duly elected Entry Taker for Sevier County for four years who appeared in open court gave bond in the sum of two thousand dollars with W McMahan  A McMahan & S B Hammer as his security and was duly sworn

It appearing to the court that William Ivy is an old helpless and poor person it is therefore ordered by the court that the commissioners of the poor house be authorized and required to receive the said Wm Ivy into the poor house

The jury of view heretofore appointed to view and mark out a road of the third clap from the Chardered road leading over the Smoky Mountain near Wm Huskey to the farm of J. P. Cole made the following report to wit
